Official 2016 Princess Half Marathon Thread

I got a email that my "Training" shirt shipped... Super excited!!! I think I'll try to squeeze in it for my 5K run with Kevin Hart on Sunday!!!

Honey Stinger Waffles - I like those a lot. But I've only used them on bike rides - and only when stopped - and not while running. They are tasty though and easy to pack since they are flat but they can get kinda crumbly.

This morning I added some tempo pacing into my 30 minute run: 5 minutes at slow pace, 10 minutes at a slightly faster pace and then back to slower pace for the last 15 minutes.

That's it! I might save it for a snack to eat on the way home from the gym. I'm usually starving and sometimes (ok, almost daily) stop off at Starbucks for an egg sandwich. If I like this thing, maybe DH can bring it to the finish line and I can eat it there so I don't crash and burn on the way to a shower.

How is training going princesses? I had a nice 5 miler on the treadmill today. 11:30 average pace.

I used to hate the treadmill but recently I've enjoyed it more than outside running.
I've been on vacation so I've missed a few posts. I ran 11.5 miles right before I left for vacation (longest distance yet), and I ran 2.5 miles every morning during vacation, with an improved pace each day (I did a 8:58 pace on the last day) . Getting back to the grind of work has thrown off my schedule so I have to get back on the horse and get 'em done! I did run 4 miles over the weekend with my boyfriend as he's training for his first runDisney race. I'm hoping I can get minimum of 7 miles in tonight after work.

Did it list that from the beginning? I look for Tervis, and I didn't see that branding. Just "tumbler". Weird!

I didn't notice it right away, so I'm not sure. I know the first time I saw it Tervis was specified. Wouldn't have appealed to me otherwise.

(Sorry in advance if this has been discussed in this thread before...I did a quick search but couldn't find it)

My BF & I are running the 5k & 10k together, but I'm running the PHM solo. He wants to see me off at Epcot, then see me at MK and then again at the Finish line. We are not planning on getting the chEAR package.
My question to all of you wonderful, knowledgeable folks: Is it possible for him to get on the monorail at Epcot immediately after I get into the corrals, head to MK, get a decent (non-chEAR) spot at Main Street in MK to see me there and then hop back on the monorail to get back to the finish line? As a disclaimer, I'm a decent runner (my goal is to finish PHM in 2/2:15) but certainly not going to be breaking any records so I think he'll have time to go back & forth. Just want to see if I'm on the right track with my thinking...TIA!

YES...

Have you run PHM before? Magic Kingdom comes at about mile 5 or 6, so if you're doing a 2-2:15 pace he has...almost an hour to get there I guess (time for you to go to corrals + time you're waiting for the start + time it takes you to run 5-6 miles). He'd have a 10ish minute walk from the staging area back to the monorail station. Mile Marker 5 is right outside of MK and Mile Marker 6 is in Frontierland. He may not get the 100% best spot on Main Street (he may be a few people back) but he should be okay.

And then he'd have another hour to get back on the monorail to go back to the finish. I think that's doable.

Speak of the devil, I just got my email from the Disney Store @9am this morning about my GSC shirt shipping today, lol.

I like the strawberry Honey Stinger waffles, but I have to be careful, because the fat content/glycemic index on those are not very good for you. I'll have them as an occasional treat, but they're not part of my regular running nutrition regimen.

From what I understand, only those who have purchased chEAR squad can access the best parts of MK to cheer their runner on, and I'm pretty sure Main Street USA is inside the designated chEAR zone area. I've never purchased chEAR squad before (my bf always just met me at the finish line), so others feel free to correct me if I'm wrong:

"Spectators will be able to see their runner run through the Magic Kingdom® Park near Cinderella Castle (Mile 5.3). This location will be open at 5:30 a.m. You do not need a ticket to enter the Magic Kingdom® Park, but to enter the ChEAR Zone area, you will need a ChEAR Zone wristband.
To reach the Magic Kingdom® Park spectator area from Epcot®, walk from the start of the monorail station at Epcot® and ride it to the Transportation and Ticket Center. Exit the monorail, walk down the ramp and follow the overhead signs for the monorail to Magic Kingdom® Park. Ride the monorail to Magic Kingdom® Park and exit the platform heading towards the Magic Kingdom® Park entrance. Proceed through the entrance and Main Street U.S.A. toward Cinderella Castle, where you will find the spectator area."

My BFFs and I spectated the Princess Half in 2014 on MSUSA...no chEAR packages. I think I hear the ChEAR seats are closer to the castle? Could be wrong about that.

Pics so @IrishMel21 can get an idea of where we were...we didn't go with BFF#4 to the start of the half, we just went straight to MK and camped out there for a couple of hours. There was a coffee cart open and I think Casey's was also selling stuff.

Me three! It didn't take long at all for me to get my Star Wars shirt after they sent the email out for that one, so they should be on our backs soon. :)

You're the best! Thanks for the info and the pics. I think he should be fine to find a spot somewhere on Main St. Neither of us expected he'd be able to get close to Cinderella's Castle but somewhere on Main St. This helps give us an idea of what to expect. I'll try to convince him to go straight to Main St/MK to get a decent spot but I think he's set on seeing me off to the corrals at Epcot since he has to get the monorail there anyway.

I need to start doing that. Because I still mainly notice "my feet hurt I hate running why is that person doing that thing omg she's dancing augh those Ursula tentacles why do the tall people wear big wide scratchy tutus that hurt my elbows as they pass by my feet hurt I hate running". Yeah, I hate myself and humanity by the end of a Half, LOL.

Maybe I should notice the GOOD stuff instead? Worth a try.

Hahahahaha..... you sound like me. I have managed to get the stamina to make it through these long runs. Even at mile 7-8 the other day (I was adding on to my long run so previously my long run was 6 miles give or take) and my body is starting to hurt and feet are starting to hurt, etc, I can physically keep going. But mentally? I'm like 'oh my god why am I doing this? is that a snake? god it's hot out here. crap, i need to pee.' and so forth. I really can't wait until my mind just goes to the happy place and i'm like 'oh it's such a pretty day, look at the clouds' lol

Of course you should notice the good stuff- that is the entire point of running at WDW!!! I laughed last year when running by some crowds and someone yelled "looking good belle" (I had a belle apron on over my outfit as my costume) and I yelled back "don't lie to me!"

Classic! Love it!

This has me cracking up this morning! I notice the dead frog in the road, the stinky trash cans, the house painted the colors of a tennis ball, is that a snake... nope just a branch thank goodness, why does that house in my neighborhood have five Mercedes in the yard.

And let me guess, none of the Mercedes' actually work? lol

Another question for you, oh great knowledgable RunDisney one. Did ya'll use regular tickets to get in to watch?

Cheering at MK without a package.
Reguardless, all can enter MK to cheer along Mainstreet. It is much more crowed than in the first few years. At a point they do have all spectators leave to open the park.
Depending on how fast you run and what corral you are in will help determine when you get to the MK. Also if you stop for photos. You enter by side gate just after 5.5 miles. If you are a faster runnner then I would have your spectator take the monorail over to MK when you head to your corral. Remind them that there is a train change at the TTC.
I have gotten to the MK in about an hour from corral A,B and C...so corral placement has changed over the years. If you are a fast runner and your spectators gets to MK and it is crowded, then just tell your spectator to get up to the rope that run the length of Mainstreet and leave when after you pass. Seems to me that all can see their loved ones as it takes hours for all us to go by.
I have asked strangers to take my photo and I have had loved one come see me. It is one of the more energetic locations on the course.
Hope I haven't confused anyone and perhaps some of the info will help.

I don't really have a "running nutrition regimen". I'm like Penny (from Big Bang Theory), I just run until I get hungry and then I stop for a bear claw. This is probably why I tell people that I run, but I'm not a runner.

Talk about fast service! I received an email at 9:04am that my training shirts were on their way from the Disney Store. I just checked the shipment tracker and it said that it was delivered and on my porch. Go to the door and it's sitting outside on my porch!

Now if only all orders could be like this....

They work. I just wonder why they need so many and how many people are living in that house and why are they all home at 10:00 on a Wednesday morning.

:D

I was kind of thinking of the junker front yard where there are no less than 3 vehicles and none of them run.

As an aside, clearly I'm in the wrong profession. I have a nice car- rarely will you find it in my driveway at 10AM on any morning. Okay, never in my driveway, but in my garage....maybe I need to be doing what they do? lol

I didn't notice it right away, so I'm not sure. I know the first time I saw it Tervis was specified. Wouldn't have appealed to me otherwise.

Aha!

When we registered they didn't have the commemorative items stuff up. Remember how rundisney site was weird and uninformative at that point for Princess? So I was going by active's info, which was and still is "Merchandise Bundle Includes a Visor, Tumbler & Magnet".

But now I see that the rundisney site shows Tervis.

OK so is that bundle a *weekend* themed bundle, or will it all be HALF-specific? What does the group-mind think?

Of course you should notice the good stuff- that is the entire point of running at WDW!!!

I think I keep signing up for these things *so that I* actually have a good run at Disney. Because I haven't yet. It's all been a long long awful slog with Ursula tentacles attacking me and Brazilian-shirt-wearing dancing women nearly clocking me in the face at the 180 before you start going towards Epcot. No mile has yet been magic, and it makes me SAD.

TOT '13 was closest, but it was so so hot. W&D last year was fun because my BFF was with me, but get out the ark, Noah! And we skipped the afterparty because, as my friend said in response to "but if we skip it we wouldn't be fun", "what part of THIS would be fun?" January Half 2014 is listed as trip "sick.0" in my TR listings, and this year was my 5th Half inside of one year and I had trained less for each one and I was my slowest.

Sigh.

Come on Star Wars or Princess (neither of which I'm doing a Half for), gimme just ONE magic mile. Then I'll be happy.

Ha! And weirdly that would probably suit my stomach better than just about anything else. But it has to be a really good bear claw. ;)

I had a really decent Galloway 1:1 walk/jog yesterday stopped abruptly at 2.57 miles in by whatever I stepped on last Wednesday flaring up again. Got home after DS's ballet class (he dances, I run, we walk back home) and tried to see what on earth is in there. Still don't know. This must stop! And I even went to urgent care for this, last Thursday. SO frustrating.
