Official 2015 Disney Marathon Thread

From what I've noticed (and googled), they are moving HQ from Bothell to the Fremont area on Stone Way. The building is huge (and drowns the other buildings in the area) and I'm not sure when it will be done. I wonder if the outlet will move, too?

It would be great if they moved to Seattle as I work in West Seattle. Much more convenient.

Hi all. Is it too soon to start asking for training advice? I have a pretty sensitive tummy, and I am convinced that Gu and the like are too hard on me. I am thinking about trying Nuun. Does anybody use it? And since it doesn't address the need for fueling, what do you use in conjunction with it?

Thanks!

How bad is starting in the last corral for the marathon? I just registered but don't have a current 1/2 or Full for Proof of time so it says I'll be in the last corral. I have done a half in just under 2 hours and my full (6 years ago) was 4:24
There's a 1/2 in September I could register for and do and then email my time. Has anyone ever submitted proof of time after registration and have it count?

Thanks!

Hi

I would try and avoid the last corral if at all possible, as it's quite challenging dodging people otherwise. If you can submit a time close to what you've said you've done before, you'll be in a much better corral.

As to whether it's worth it - absolutely yes. I put a very conservative finishing time when I entered the PHM but submitted an actual time later which got me into a much better corral. Definitely worth it!

Good Luck - see you there :woohoo:

I can't do GU either. I use a combination of nuun and honey stinger waffles.

I use Honey Stinger gels and love them! They're super easy on my tummy, and taste WAY better (to me anyway) than the GU. :)

GBBTomorrow- I recently tried gu, and it did not agree with my tummy either! I have liked sport beans, taste just like a regular jelly belly and they have a few flavors (orange, berry, fruit punch, pomegranate, watermelon, lemon lime). My next fuels to try are clif shot bloks and the honey stinger waffles.
Nuun I also just started to try, I got the pink lemonade flavor. It's pretty mild, not super sweet at all. I like it but also have not tried it in conjunction with a fuel on the same run so I will definitely need to test that out too, and make sure it's not too much on the belly.

I am currently using Skratch Labs exercise hydration mix.
I got the lemon lime flavor. The flavor is good and most importantly it does not upset my stomach.
As my runs get longer I am going to try the rice squares from the
Feed Zone Portable book.
here is the web site http://www.skratchlabs.com/

My problem with Gu is that you have to drink so much water with it.

I can use sports beans, shot bloks (I specifically use the 3x salt flavor, margarita) most easily. I wear a hydration backpack and carry a smaller bottle (that goes in a pocket of the backpack) with Clif brand electrolyte mix.

I've tried the waffle things, but those are iffy in my stomach. Honey stingers just feel like sugar to me; they don't feel like they are replacing anything else. There's another brand that's like that for me, too.

I spent as much time leading up to last year's TOT and this year's WDW Half testing out fuel and water delivery methods as I did spend time doing the miles!

Never thought I would hear my self saying this, but I'm excited for my first full!
I wasn't expecting to do this weekend until Dopey 2016, but the excitement of Expedition
Everest Challenge last weekend got the best of me. Since Dopey was sold out ,I opted for
"just the full", which is perfectly fine with me since it's my first. I'm excited to begin the
training plan, and hope to improve my 2:30 half by October to complete a corral change. :yay:

Is November too late to do a half to submit for the marathon. DH is running the full and there aren't a ton of races here in the summer (FL panhandle) and that was the only half I could find prior to the marathon that is local. I think he'll go nuts if he's stuck in the back.

Yes, you must submit a time before October 10th.

You sound like me, I just did Everest and Loved it and signed up for the Marathon. It will be 2nd marathon though. I'm debating on doing a half in September so I'll have corral placement otherwise I don't have a current long enough race to submit.

Thanks! Not sure we can travel for one or we'll be able to find one on the Gulf Coast this summer, but I will give it a look and see what I can find. He'll probably run that one anyways though since it's reasonably priced.

I want to be in as high a corral as I possibly can. I was in E for Everest Challenge, and it seemed like ages before we finally got going! Why not use your previous marathon time?

You probably know this, but it doesn't HAVE to be a half marathon to submit for the marathon...anything 10 miles and longer will work. I know 10-milers are harder to find than half marathons but just wanted to throw that out there. :)

I'd definitely submit SOMETHING...as a PP said it could end up being a pretty long wait otherwise!

If the marathon sells out, what are the chances that they will take some of the Goofy slots that are still available and add some additional Marathon and Half Marathon slots?

Yeah I was in A for Everest and spoiled. My marathon was 6 years ago and nothing else longer after Jan 2013 unfortunately. Yeah I will probably do a 1/2 to get a better corral as there's one in Sept. right before the cutoff to submit.
