Official 2013 Disneyland Dumbo Double Dare, Half Marathon, 10k, and 5k Thread!

Take pics if you go, I'm curious what it looks like. I've always wanted to sit outside upstairs, but have never been able to. Don't know if that is part of the DCA Club 33 part or I just haven't had luck, but sitting up there Sun afternoon w/ a nice cocktail sounds nice.

When we ate there in March, we were seated "upstairs" and weren't part of "the club" I think the downstairs is mainly lounge space, anyway.

Also, have to :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1:
because our GET Travel agent emailed today and told us our waitlist for a DL hotel came through. We were previously at the Doubletree but wanted a DL hotel so bad so that we'd be close to the start line! DLH came through today!
Whoooppppeee!

Trying not to :faint::faint::faint::faint::faint: about the price, though! Telling myself it'll be worth it!

I know this is so far off for DLR, but where is a good pre-race dinner location?

Ditto PPs.

Off-site, there's a Buca di Beppo pretty close by (~5-7 mins driving), but they get extremely busy for the race weekend- a couple years ago we called in an order and they had run out of meatballs! If you want to eat there, be sure to make ressies early. :)
Last year I went to California Pizza Kitchen. There were a few other runners eating there as well, but the pasta options are limited.

Ok - I am really late to this party, but I just got a spot in the 10k through HSuBU travel. I have not gotten an official confirmation yet, it has been only a couple of days though. Has anyone used them? I hope they are reputible.

A question, because this is a very spur of the moment, unplanned trip, I got a suite at Hampton Inn Garde Grove using points so the cost of the trip will be low. Does anyone know if there is somewhere relatively close to the start line that my DH can drop me off? Do they even allow racers to be dropped off anywhere close?

Kinda nervous. My first Disney race, only my 3rd race ever (by then) and my 2 10k as I am running my first a month before. Also my first solo race! Ack!

Any and all hints welcome!

I registered for the half through HSuBU travel. I received my confirmation from Reggo and then from Active.com 12 days later!

Thanks Arkuzy! :thumbsup2 Good to know it will eventually arrive.

Any advice from anyone about the drop off from my hotel?

So excited I got in & kinda nervous as well :cool1:

I looked for my past race programs; couldn't find this year's Tink or last year's DL, but found them from the years before. There isn't a mention about drop off, just parking. In the shuttle weekend transportation, Hampton Inn is listed as a shuttle pick up. It doesn't specifically mention Garden Grove, but if it is your hotel you can just take the shuttle to and from the hotel. There is a shuttle that goes to Residence Inn in Garden Grove, so that's an option. It'll drop you off/pick you up at the East Esplanade and you just walk through DTD to the race. It also mentions that the parking structure will be open so he might be able to drop you of there.

If you can't get you close to the start area for drop off, you could use the East Esplanade like the shuttles and walk through DTD. If you're not familiar w/ DL, it's on Harbor where the main/big crosswalk is to get to the resorts.

Hope that helps a bit. Once we get closer to race weekend, they'll post the program online and the info about transportation so you'll be able to get a better idea.

THANKS KIM :goodvibes

If the parking is open, he can just park there. I assume it is not a long walk to the start from there (for me)!!

Yes, the paking will be open. Not sure what time, I think 3:30 it opens up and the fee is the normal $16 parking fee. It'll be the Mickey and Friends parking lot, but double check the race program for street closures and times they close down. Once you come down from your parking level, you'll walk straight across to the parking area by the DLH for the staging area/bag drop. If you're not doing bag drop, at the street you'll turn left into your corrals. No more than 1/4 mile for the staging area and even less if you go straight to corrals. You'll see/be w/ tons of people you can follow and music at the staging area to lead you. :goodvibes

Just remembered you said you're doing the 10k on Sat, not the 1/2. If they set it up like the 5k in the past, when you come down the escalator, the bag area is right there. But w/ the 10k this year, it could be the same DLH area for the 1/2 or the 5k area. But the start area is the same as the 1/2. Hope this doesn't confuse you. Sorry!

No worries, at this point everything is confusing me :rotfl2:

I will probably be able to follow the crowd would be my guess. At least that is my plan for now.

Don't worry ~ once you see the program and how everything lays out, you'll be fine. Especially once you get there! :goodvibes

For those that have done the DL half in past years, what have you seen weather wise and how have your temps been so far ? Anything has got to be cooler than 90% humidity and 90 degrees here in San Antonio !

GO SPURS GO !

There is a route for the disneyland 10k filed with the USATF. A google search will bring it up.

You don't have to worry about the humidity, the only time I remember it being humid was 4 years ago, and only for the 5k. The ½ was fine. Race time hasn't been hot. Maybe warm for some people, but if you're okay in SA, then you'll be fine in DL. Years 3 & 4 we had coastal fog almost the entire race which was AWESOME! But I don't remember a race since where we've had it. Year 2 was the crazy heat wave ~ when I finished, it was around 100. I don't remember exact temps, but the past couple of race weekends have been in the mid-80s I think. The downside is that it's CA and Anaheim, so a heat wave could pop up at anytime so we won't have a good idea until race week.

The sun will be starting to come up when we run, still don't know why we don't start at 5 instead of 5:30. We run towards the sun from about mile 4-5, 6½ - 7, and then 7½-8. Everything else, the sun is to our sides and once we hit Angels Stadium, we turn back to DL and it'll be at our backs.

I'm with you on the time Kim. They start Tinker Bell at 5:00. It makes no sense to me why they start at 5:30 when it's warmer and earlier daylight.

The 1/2 I did today didn't start until 9:00!!! We were sooooo lucky on the weather. It was about 58 at the start and stayed overcast until almost everyone was finished. We are used to training in cool weather so if the 80 that was predicted earlier in the week showed up it would have been bad.

Thanks to both of you for the great answers....I think we would all like cooler temps for race !

Congrats on the 1/2! What one was it?

How's everyone's training going? Only 11 more weeks!!! :yay:

11 weeks left? For some reason I'm having a hard time realizing there's a 10k and a half marathon I need to run in 11 weeks. Lots of stuff has been going on and I'm feeling overwhelmed but I've been sticking to my training as best as I can. Dumbo (and a much needed vacation) will be here before we know it!
