Official 2013 Disneyland Dumbo Double Dare, Half Marathon, 10k, and 5k Thread!

I ran/walk 6 miles today. It was tough. just not a good run. At the end of the run I thought that not even half way there. However, just plotted out my 8 mile run for this Sunday:)
Just 70 days till we leave to Disneyland:cool1:

Congrats on the 1/2! What one was it?

How's everyone's training going? Only 11 more weeks!!! :yay:

It was my hometown half, the Vancouver USA 1/2. Now I just have to keep up the miles and start adding the extra miles the day before. I didn't want to start that until after the race because I've been fighting knee issues, but it feels better today than it did after last month's Portland Rock N Roll so I hope that's a good sign.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a foam roller? There are so many choices I'm confused.

It is going alright - I am on a new heart medicine for migraine treatment... it is working GREAT however I have so little gas in my engine from it. I seriously get exhausted 3x faster than I have during my previous trainings. A part of me is wondering if this will be my last race... I did go to the Dr this morning and he encouraged me to try backing off if I wanted to, try not taking it the morning of, try taking it earlier the night before etc etc etc to see if that helps at all. If I go lower he isn't sure it will do much anymore so I might try it anyway but I don't know... I know it is a TINY prescription, only 40mg/day, but my blood pressure this morning was 97/55 - the lowest I have EVER seen it at a Dr appointment so I KNOW it is doing its job!

I did not take it before our 8 mile run this last Sunday, and while I still didn't feel as good as I have previously it was easier so we will see. As of last week I have said sayonara to the 3 mile weekend alternates and do my first 4 this weekend. That alone is making it seem closer...!:hyper:

Ok, here it is: Spurs are the champs. UGH. Congrats

We are cautiously optimistic in San Antonio about tonight's game but believe the Heat will be ready to rumble so I expect a really good close game!:)

I too am having a tough time with training and motivation...just don't have that go get'em attitude I had for PHM in Feb...think it's the heat! I am doing ALOT of walking and holding a 14:34 avg so my goal is to finish ahead of the balloon lady !:lmao:

I'm a Portland Trailblazers fan rooting with you!!

14:34 is well in front of the balloon lady!! I'm mostly a walker with just a little running so 14:34 is close to one of my fastest times. You will be great!

Ack! 11 weeks? I am just now starting to train. I have not even received my "official" confirmation from HSuBU travel! :badpc: Getting a bit worried about that.

I did a (as in ONE) practice walk of 10k to get a baseline. Very hot, 80 out, but very flat & held a 14.19 pace. So I am pretty sure I can avoid the balloon ladies. That was walking only. I am also doing a run/walk 3 times a week of 1 mile. Best yet is 12.13 for ONE mile :crazy2:

I really wanted to get a good enough time to get out of that last corral for Tink. I guess my fall back plan is to just get to experience a Disney race so I know what to expect for Tink, get totally hooked on Disney races :thumbsup2, and get over my fear of the balloon ladies :cool1:

Any idea what time you will need to move up one corral from the last one doing a 10k & guesses on the deadline?

I saw a chart for the PHM, but it was confusing. It just listed finish times & how they correlated to pace times (duh) and they only looked like finish times for 1/2s. No mention of how many corrals, or what paces would put you in what corrals.

I really want a goal, but I feel like I am flying blind. :confused3 both with requirements & deadline.

For 2014, the proof of times are changing. 2013 races say you only have to provide proof of time if you'll finish in less than 2:45. 2014, that changes to 3:15. There will be people who don't have finish times to submit, so to keep you out of the last corral, I'd aim for a 14 min/mile pace (or ~3hr half). :)

I could not get Hsubu to return my phone calls; i finally called the highest person on the list on their webpage, he said he knew nothing and would have the Disney race person call me; never happened.

Surprising when you consider I emailed and spoke with an executive, told them I was willing to spend like $990 bucks (which is how much race and hotel is)...and no one called me to take my money....

Strange! Hope you can get something sorted out!

I'm glad they are doing this with the pacing. There is a big difference between racers who do a 2:50 and a 3:30 - and I think Disney has a big chunk of their participants in that pace area. It makes sense to spread them out further and more accurately. I'm doing a 10k this Saturday with the hopes of getting a slightly earlier corral.

Ok, so I was sitting at the Tambu Lounge with Nicki when the game was on. I really thought the series was over. Too many Lapu-Lapus. ;) So.... Go Heat!

Ran 4 last night in 51:05 and I got stopped by a dog that was harassing me! Would have been 49 something if I hadn't had to stop!

Such a close game....ready to close it out on Thursday...last nights game will give me good motivation for the 3 miles scheduled on the treadmill. Just tooooo hot to go outside to train anymore ! When it is 80 at 8 a.m. You know it will be a hot day!

I know, it has been brutally hot here, as well. I won't run outside until the last week before DL, just to get my knees accustomed to the pavement again. I really hate the dreadmill, but its a lifesaver this time of year. :thumbsup2

Thank you! Exactly the type of info I was looking to find. A 14 min pace should be fine, I was worriers it would have to be 11 or something.

And I do agree, I can see how frustrating it would be if it is really crowded and everyone from 2:45-3:30 is in the same corral.

HSuBU already sent me a confirmation email from them, but have not heard a word since. I better check my credit card & make sure it was charged & give them a call :-(((

hsubu's webpage now says "sold out" for all....but certainly the company doesn't have their act together .....

Yup! It said Sold Out for the 10k, but I emailed them and they did have one spot available.

If anyone really wants to get in, there is always a possibility to get into the 1/2. There were spots left recently. The Dumbo Dare however was not an option.

I would call and ask if anyone really wanted in, but the cost is pretty high IMO.

I submitted the time for my latest 10K race (1:12). The response I got back is that my projected finish time has been updated to 2:42:00. Do you guys think this will be fast enough to get me out if the last corral?

Absolutely! My 10K time is just a couple minutes slower than that and I got C for Tink and D for Princess:)
