Official 2013 Disneyland Dumbo Double Dare, Half Marathon, 10k, and 5k Thread!

We did the 5k for HH. Weather was great. I was undertrained, the second hill killed me. Official PR, however.

Congrats on the new PR!

Just signed up to run 10K for St Jude. Yeah!

Any suggestions on EXPO, the race, etc. I see some are arriving day before EXPO.

Expo is at the DLH. Bib/Pin/Park Tix pickup is in the parking lot below the expo. Upstairs is the expo ~ shirts/bags are at the wall on the right, official merch is on the left. Last year I got there when it opened and it was busy, so I did official merch, bib then vendors, but there was still a line for merch.

Racewise, we start at the top of an underpass so you have quick downhill/uphill. Flat after that until we leave DCA, except for downhill from CarsLand by Screamin and the back of DCA. Based on the drawing of the map, after TOT where it says East Shuttle area, if we're backstage, that's another underpass. After we leave DL, there's a slight incline up DTD, but it's minor.

Hope that helps! :goodvibes

I'll be doing the DL Half Marathon this year. Very happy and looking forward to it. Is there anyone running who lives in San Diego and wants to do some training together. I would love to the training buddy !

reply or email me at gyen@san.rr.com

Hey folks!
:wave2:

So I'm totally new to this thread and haven't quite caught up yet. :rolleyes1 The DL half will be my second RunDisney race (ran the PHM in February and am all signed up for W&D already!) and my 5th half marathon. It'll also be the first time I've been back to DL since I was 4!! :cool1:

In any case, seems there's been a lot of posting in these parts since I last checked in. ;) Please forgive me if I'm being redundant.

BUT. I have a lot of spectators coming to this race :cheer2: (My DBF's family is all in LA, so they are excited to come along...) And they have recently asked about planning their own viewing.

My impulse was to try to convince them to buy ChEAR Squad packages (sounded easiest, plus bathrooms, etc) but that might be a no go.

So, veterans, what can I tell them to expect in terms of good locations to watch from? Am I right in understand that only ChEAR Squad folks can watch from inside the parks? Any other tips or advice?

Not sure about getting into the parks for cheering, but here are some non-park areas. For the start area there are a couple of places ~ they can cheer you on along DL Drive or down Katella as we border DCA. That'll be the 1st mile. Another area is around mile 4 when we exit the parks and are running along Ball. At the end, they can go along Disney Way and cheer you on at the end of mile 11 before you go back into the DCA parking area. A tip though is to make sure they stay on the same side of the street as the parks, if you're facing the parks it'll be the righthand side. 1 ~ that's the side we run on and 2 ~ it's the easiest way back to DTD w/o waiting for the runners to pass. The other place to watch is where DTD meets the DLH at the end of the race. We finish on a service road b/w the 2. Unless it's changed from the past, it's open to spectators w/o being part of the chear squad. A lot of people line up along the road. And depending on how fast you run and how quick they can get through DTD and security, they could catch you at Disney Way and the finish.

Yup- only chEAR squad folks can watch from inside the parks. You are able to watch from the esplanade, but be careful where you stand- I know some areas you sort of get blocked in and can't leave for a while due to the runners.

Hi everyone. I've signed up for the Disneyland 10K, and I'm so excited! It will be my first visit to Disneyland and my longest Disney race to date. My question is about the chear squad. Is that available during the 10K or only during the half? I'd like to sign my husband up, but I want to make sure it's available during the 10K. Thanks so much!

Any guesses on number of people and corrals for the half ? Figure I will be in the next to last or last corral since I will more than likely have to walk most of the race due to severe asthma issues. DL will be my last race so I will go out with a bang and my C2C :cool1:

Sunny gal and longhorns...gonna have to have extra drinks to celebrate my retirement from racing !

Oh no, you're retiring? I'm retiring after the GSC. My RunD enabler friends will tell you differently. I'm always up for drinks for ANY reason. Okay, here it is: Go Spurs. UGH. LOL

I don't know if anything has changed, but I emailed Run Disney when the 10k was first announced and they said Chear Squad was just for the 1/2.

LMAO...did the Go Spurs cause any serious injury !:rotfl2:

Yup gonna have to hang up the running portion of my career...the choice was keep running and take steroid meds for the asthma and put up with the usual 10-15 lbs of weight gain etc. OR find a form of exercise less taxing on my lungs. Yoga is going to win....

Did manage 6mi on the treadmill today walking at a 14:17 min pace so I should be peachy keen for the DL in about 10 weeks.

Yeah, we've heard this retirement talk before. I'll believe it when I see it...

Yeah, Cindy only thinks she's retiring! No, not gonna happen! Besides, she has to stick around for Princess 2015 when I make my Princess return!

Retire?? Yeah, right!!! First off, you are the major enabler of the bunch!!! Oh M, sign up for this, you should do that, wouldn't this be fun!!!! And then, didn't you just say the other day, and I quote, since this is my FIRST Tink!!! You wouldn't give this, or all of us up for anything! Now, lets just stop the crazy talk of retiring before you talk yourself into it. Besides, Collen is in for Princess 2015 and who is going to run beside me and Nic in Dopey next year, yup, none other than you!!!!

Love you dearly, but seriously, retire, I don't think so. All in good fun ma'am! Love ya!!!

I know this is so far off for DLR, but where is a good pre-race dinner location?
Getting excited!!
Official race courses please RunDisney!!! I want a map:)

Last year I ate at Wine Country Trattoria in DCA Friday night for my carb meal and it was really good. Think I'm going back there again this year. And if you can get a seat outside, you look down Route 66 in Cars Land. In DTD, ESPN Zone is good (crowded but they do take out), Goofy's Kitchen/Steakhouse(DL Hotel) has good food. Napoli's is good, but if you go there, make reservations, it'll be crowded. House of Blues and Tortilla Joe's (mexican) are okay. There is also the Uva Bar/Catal Restaurant, but haven't eaten there since they changed their menu. Outside of the parks, on Harbor to the right of the crosswalk is Tony Roma's and on the other side of the resort down Katella there is Marri's (italian) and really popular. There is the Garden Walk along Disney Way and they have restaurants there, haven't been but I think there's Bubba Gumps, either Morton's/Ruth Chris's Steakhouse and maybe California Pizza Kitchen.

I like the idea of overlooking Route 66 :). I may try there. Thanks!

Take pics if you go, I'm curious what it looks like. I've always wanted to sit outside upstairs, but have never been able to. Don't know if that is part of the DCA Club 33 part or I just haven't had luck, but sitting up there Sun afternoon w/ a nice cocktail sounds nice.
