Official 2012 Wine and Dine ½ Marathon Thread

3 weeks from right now, we'll be running the Wine and Dine!!!!!! SO excited!

Quick question. Has anybody had any luck with a disposable camera with a flash for taking pics during the race? I'll be using the Galloway app on my iphone and I wear it on my arm, so I'm not going to be able to use it to take pics. Are the disposable ones with a flash any good for night pics?

Yeah, I tried that but nothing. I sent an email to their contact us page and got the automated email saying they received my contact (received this in my inbox), so it's not a filter setting on my end.

Fortunately it is not necessary. As long as you are able to print your waiver, receiving the emails is not a necessary thing. Last year, I did the 5K and I think I only ever got the first email sent out...definitely didn't get the last one. This year I did get all the emails, but kept an eye on the site and this thread just in case.

How's everyone feeling? I had to take 2 weeks off due to a calf injury and other than a few twinges during today's run my calf felt ok! My endurance, however, Whoa that took a beating! :scared1::scared1:

I was supposed to run 14 miles today, but only ran 6.1..I didn't want to push it with my injury so close to W&D. I hope to just do several 30min runs between now and W&D to build back my endurance.

Can't believe my first 1/2 is only 3 weeks away:woohoo::woohoo:

Getting nervous and excited and a little teary that I have am so close to accomplishing this goal!

10.5 in 2:05 here with realistic water breaks, walking etc. One more long run in my training schedule, getting excited!

Sorry that you got injured. It really does put a damper on your training. Good job keeping up the training and not giving up completely. I hope you really love your first 1/2!

16 miles in the bank this morning, and my first 45 mile week ever. :cool1:

Way to go you guys! I'm a little behind schedule on my training but logged 8 miles yesterday and felt great doing it. I feel like sometimes how I feel during my runs is almost as important as putting in the miles! :) 45 miles in a week -- WOW! Way to go!

3 weeks! So exciting!

12.5 yesterday was difficult, but my training fell off the last couple of weeks due to a huge work deadline. I did finish though and feel confident that barring injury, I'll be able to finish and get my C2C medal.

Has anyone who's flown and taken their medals with them had any trouble with the medals and security? I want to bring my Disneyland 1/2 for pictures, but don't want it confiscated by security and you never know what they'll do.

Nope. I usually keep my medal in my carry-on.

I wore mine underneath my hoodie (you can never be too careful). I felt a little ridiculous--'til a guy who was also on the plane pulled his from underneath his sweatshirt. Mutual thumbs up, a nod of respect, and "it was awesome"s were exchanged.

Ran the Detroit half marathon today in 2:08! It was my first ever half and I only ran 1-2 times per week during my training. I'm wondering if I have enough time before W&D to get to a sub-2hr pace?

The other consideration, if it were even possible, is how that would affect the rest of our trip. I don't want to injure myself and ruin 7 days of park-touring with my husband and kids (3 & 6).

Maybe better to just relax and enjoy the sights, and think about working toward a spring race?

I did about 6.2 today. I was sick with the flu this past week so I had to skip my 30 minute runs, and didn't have enough stamina to do the full 14. Had I been completely recovered, I would have been fine. So I am not too stressed out about needing to cut back, but will be adding in some extra 30 minute runs between now and then.

Thanks for the reassurance on the medal. My plan was to keep it in my carryon. Ever since I saw people get character photos with the characters and all their medals in 2011, I wanted to do the same if I ever did the C2C. I just didn't think it would be this year. At least I hope it's this year. :thumbsup2

As for trying to get a PR, I say just enjoy the race. My only races have been the last two Disneyland 1/2s and there is a lot to savor and experience. Seeing the World of Color fountains in the morning as the rising sun hits them just right was beautiful. Running through Carsland in the morning and seeing the sun hit the Cadillac range was awesome. I finally got a picture with Princess Aurora in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle. Watching Darth Vader and Stormtroopers interact with runners was great. And running through a Angels Stadium with people cheering for me was a childhood dream come true.

At Disneyland we had some time backstage and got to see some of the parade floats close up. The costumes other runners wear can be a lot of fun.

Wow! Sounds like everyone's pretty prepped 3 weeks out. This week I had an "easy" week scheduled after 3 harder weeks. So I signed up for a local 10k race. It was a good practice run for pacing and trying to follow my race plan of not going out too fast. It's also a pretty flat course with 1long hill halfway (just like the w&d) Unfortunately slight miscalculation & I missed my goal by 1 min :-(. I never thought a 10k would feel like an "easy" day though -that's gotta be worth something :-).

It is so critical to not start out too fast. I did that at the 2011 Disneyland 1/2 and paid the price with insane soreness less than 1/2 a mile into the race that I dealt with for the next few days.

For 2012, I told the voice in my head "NO" when it tried to convince me to start out too fast. When the time came to run as I knew I had to make up time after character photo stops, I was ready to go and did just fine.

As for prep, I'm not done yet. I must get the 14 mile run in this week, so I won't be 3 weeks removed from my last distance run on race day. My training slipped the last couple of weeks as I feared it would (could have been a lot worse, but could have been better too) due to work pressures. I got the 12.5 miles in yesterday, but it was hard, more so than the Disneyland 1/2. But when it gets hard, I just tell myself where I'll be in Walt Disney World at certain mile markers and remember how much I want that C2C medal.

So where is everyone coming from for the race? Richmond VA here with my parents from Chapel Hill NC (my hometown!) as my touring partners.

I'm coming from north Seattle, WA.

Question building off Sleepless Knight's question. Those who are doing the C2C, are you running with your Tink/DL medal? What pictures are people referring to when they mention wearing the 1st C2C medal? Thanks!

This is my first big race at Disney, I have done 3 different 5ks. I am in the second to last group and my partner is in the last group. How strict are they with groups? Can we start together?

Congrats, You can move back and start with her but she can't move up to start with you.

The only way for you both to run together is for you to go down to your partners group. Going up is not allowed and strictly enforced.

I just did 4 today. After last week's 12 miler, my feet hurt for a couple of days. So, I just did a 30 min. this week and the 4 today. Supposed to go to 14 next weekend, but I was thinking 13. Why go over? :lmao: But, since my feet bothered me so much this past week, I may just do 10 to keep endurance up. I'm really not sure what to do. We're hitting the parks the week after the race. If my feet hurt like last week's 12, I may have to rent a scooter! :rotfl2: My feet were fine until I hit that 12 mark. Just want to stay healthy.

My son and I made a "Countdown to Disney" calendar last night. I googled it and cute pic popped up. It's one with Mickey's for each number on the countdown. We're crazy excited! 18 days until we leave!
