Official 2012 Wine and Dine ½ Marathon Thread

Yay! Keep going!

Success report - ran my first 3 miles in a long time today and it was HOT! Stopped for water and a bit slow, but best thing is shin didn't flare up much. Guess stretching and cross-training really helps! Now to get back in the habit and slowly increase mileage and time.

That's great news! Keep it up.

It just at back from my 5K. I set a new PR even in the 85 degree sun. It's amazing how much different running an event like that is. I'm so used to running by myself so it was cool to get motivated by others. You really feed off of it. What a great experience!

Congrats!

Looking forward to running in 70 degrees in Nov. we go to WDW every Nov and last year wore sweatshirts some days!

Today was our first 10.5 mile day! Very exciting! And thank you for the shoe suggestions! After our vacation I plan to shoe shop!

You are soooo right! I LOVE racing. I HATE training! Congrats on the PR

Glad you had a good time. Sorry I didn't come. :guilty:

You bring up a good point, specifically for new racers. Running at event is totally different from going out on your own. If you are new, it would be beneficial to do a local 5K or some other organized race, to get a bit of a handle for running in a crowd feels like, and what to expect. That way you can be a little bit more mentally prepared. Side note: RunDisney has events organized pretty well at WDW. They have complete control. Any glitches that a local event may have will probably not be the case at Disney.

Sigh..... Not a good run tonight. Went to the trail this time thinking it might be cooler in the shady parts. Ha! First, shady parts were like 10 feet long, maybe two times.... And the air was so still - little circulation. Second, I still dislike running on our local trail. I'm not an outdoorsy girl and I just don't like feeling like I'm running in the jungle. And finally my side stitch/cramp reappeared again after just 3/4 of a mile and slowed my overall time down tremendously. When I was done with my 3.5 I just wanted to start all over. I'm trying to chalk it up to experiencing and persevering through a run that is not going well....

My 5 miles Saturday was a PR for me tho! Yay!

Even after many many races, I still have days that I fight to get that first mile or two in. Sometimes it is a fight for the entire run. I have found that more times than not, the feeling goes away after a couple of miles. This feeling definitely happens less with the more miles that you get under your belt. So don't let it get you down. I agree that it is a good thing to have this feeling before the race to know that you can get through even if it isn't your best time.

So glad this doesn't just happen to me ! I think I've figured out in these last few month soy running that he first 2-3 are the hardest for me. After that it's much easier !

No worries...maybe we can catch another one sometime.

I was really surprised how different it was. I think I pushed myself a bit too hard and hurt my knee a bit. I've had to rest it this week which is a real bummer but I decided to play it safe rather than potentially lose more time later.

Can anyone confirm that we runners don't need to purchase a finish line party ticket? I ordered dh's spectator finish line party ticket last week and got it today and it said something about picking up the $10 gift card that comes with it at the expo with the race packet. It was very confusing. I was assuming we runners didn't really need a ticket but do we actually get one at the expo too? I'm just confused- I didn't have to order one for me did I? (the ticket also said til 3:00 a,m so it sounds like there is still some confusion there too.

Your party bracelet will be in your expo bag.

Weekend check in time! Working on getting on track after fighting a cold this week - 3 miler done. It's a start!

GREAT job! I was supposed to do 6 miles last weekend but life hit hard and then during the week I hurt one of my big toes and had a migraine from Mon-Wed... needless to say I am slacking from doing it RIGHT NOW but will likely be able to pull myself away from the DIS very soon and get it done! :lmao: I will likely do a 4 miler Monday or Wed instead of the usual 2.5 or so I get from my half hour runs to make up for not doing THAT run this weekend, then another 6.5 on schedule next weekend... this week is going to be a LOT of running! :crowded:

I went out to run yesterday because it wasn't quite as hot... I planned on doing 12 but it turns out runkeeper and I differ on our definitions of 12 miles. I actually did about 9 so now I'm scanning the weather report looking for another cool day this week to go out and do an actual 12 mile run.

It's a good thing I have disneyland coming up otherwise I wouldn't be running in this weather.

I have not found a phone app that is anywhere close to accurate. I use a garmin 305 and run with my phone to listen to music. I thought it would be nice to only have to the phone, but as you said the phone apps can easily be several miles off.

Has anyone found an app that accurately keeps distance?

Nike+ has been almost dead on for us - we use it with our iPhone but it is up to how you configure it to start - it goes by your stride, so I started by going to a track and running one mile with it. If your stride varies too much then I could see it being all over the place too... :( Lately what we have been doing is go onto google maps and route it out by dropping pins until we have a nice loop through our neighborhood that is the mileage we want, being careful to watch for it doing odd things like cross the street or go a little further down one street before we turn. I like it because then we know where to stop by a landmark and can kind of turn our brains off otherwise.

I did not have a very good 6-miler yesterday... it was only 73 in here (I ran it on the treadmill since my husband doesn't like me to run outside alone, he is worried I will get abducted, lol) but I just could NOT get to a comfy temperature or into it! I swear it can be 5-10 more degrees outside but the wind makes it so much more comfy and pleasant... in here the air is either stagnant or assailing me on a fan since we don't have air conditioning! Hopefully we can do all the rest of our long runs outside together! :headache:
