Official 2012 Wine and Dine ½ Marathon Thread

DD (11) registered for her first race at WDW - the mile. Training is going well and she will be ready for the 5K and 1/2 over time. :cool1:

Aqua dame- funny you mention the weather, etc. So it was only 63 degrees here yesterday when I went out for my run and I was so excited because it has been at least 20 degrees warmer than that for almost all of my runs in the last 2 months. But then we had a LOT of wind plus I decided to go for a "magic mile" and I did not enjoy my run like I was hoping to. I really should have just gone out for fun to enjoy the cooler weather! Oh well, hopefully it will start cooling down for good soon.

We are headed to Disneyland on Tuesday so I'm going to try to get in one more run before we go, one or two short ones while I'm there and I'm pushing the 6.5 miler until the day after we return next week. I just can't justify to my family why I have to go run for over an hour when they want me to be standing in line for carsland fast passes- lol! So it will have to wait. That should be fun, the day after spending a whole day on various plane and jet lagged.... No choice tho, since ds has surgery scheduled the very next day after. :(

So, I learned this afternoon that I WON the Facebook contest I was in - for a free entry to the race - and can now officially say that I'm running the Wine and Dine in November! So excited-this will be my first Half, and I have lots of training to do, but I've come so far already and am really looking forward to crossing that finish line at EPCOT!!

I'm so glad!! I totally voted for you!!

So my bestie and I planned to run in Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend but I was in the middle of moving back to the US from overseas. I didn't realize how quickly this event would close out (should have known better!) and now she's in and I'm not! Anyone know someone who's not running and that can transfer registration? Is it even possible to do that? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I think there are still entries available through Get travel (you must book your hotel through them), and also some of the charities where you fund raise and get your entry. Check the runDisney website for further information and good luck!

Before most major races I know I've seen where people can't run and are looking to see their bib....if you're like me that's a risk, but it's worth a short. You could try watching the Facebook page and a few other blogs as well.

Way to go, welcome aboard :cheer2::cheer2::yay::cheer2::cheer2:

I finally found this thread when I came over to this side of the boards for the Disneyland 1/2 thread. I'm signed up for the Wine & Dine 1/2 in Epcot and quite excited for it. Due to professional obligations, most WDW races are at terrible times of the year for me to train, let alone take the time off work to fly to Orlando and compete, so I'm quite thrilled that this year, 1 race worked with my schedule.

I'm entered in the Coast to Coast Challenge as this could be the only time I get that opportunity.

So while I'm following the Jeff Galloway plan, I'm currently training for the Disneyland and will switch over to the Wine & Dine training after finishing Disneyland.

Coast-to-Coast is great that is why we are headed to WDW in November to claim our medals. I dont know if I will ever not run two in a year I just keep thinking of the extra ****BLING****. :cool2:
Next up after this year, I think 2014 Goofy chalendge with a Disneyland Half follow up.
:goofy:

Last year the day after the Disneyland 1/2, I met some ladies in line to see Chip and Dale that were serious runners. They were telling me all about the various full marathons they had run all over the country and came prepared with all their runDisney medals, including the Goofy. And then there was me. With my Disneyland 1/2 medal. Not that I cared. I was happy to have finished.

I don't think I'll ever do the full. Until this year, every WDW runDisney event had been held in months where I could not take the time off work to compete. And I'm not convinced that I actually want to train for a full. The 1/2 is difficult enough for me.

Yay for finding this thread! My best friend and I are signed up this race and its our first half. We are also signed up for the ToT 10 Miler and have been training for it. We are up to 9 miles this past weekend. We do 2:1s...it wasn't too bad but the idea of still having to do 4 more miles is a little scary! Neither of us were ever runners until we started running to get in shape for my wedding last June, with the Princess 5k of 2011 being our first ever race. We've run in every Disney 5k (and Sea World and Universal 5ks) since then but we never imagined we'd be able to do a half. And here we are! So excited!

It's fascinating to me how daunting a 4 mile session once seemed. My first distance race of any kind was the 2011 Disneyland 1/2. I'd never even tried a 5K before. I often had to remind myself in May that the Disneyland 1/2 marathon was in September. Of course now it's almost here with the Wine & Dine a little over 2 months from next weekend.

AGREED! I seriously want that Mickey medal, but when i think of the time that is necessary I just can't do it. We both work full time and are already dedicating three nights a week to training, and we do have other hobbies and interests that are being neglected. I gave up sessions with my Japanese tutor, cook less at home, haven't been gardening as much, we don't go out of town on weekends that are long runs and find we don't have enough time/energy on top of it to do weight training and such to the extent that we should. :worried: I know it would only be another 1/3 as much time, not even double probably except in length of training months, but I just can't see myself having that much patience.

Started to get excited even though I'm a little behind in my training - will be my 4th half and want to set a PR but still enjoy it. Note, that's anything faster than 2:44 :). However, really looked at the map tonight and if I can make it 3 miles then I have the parks to motivate me. Plus, my usual running route at Disney is the BWV, Studios, Yacht Club loop, so by the time I'm ready to quit I have the Osbourne lights plus my regular route that I know I can handle. Any other single runners shout out - I'll be the one trying to hold back tears from either running or joy :)

I am also running alone (though going down with family). This trip will be a tough one--I finally got a job, but that means flying down Friday night and leaving Sunday. You know, employment makes it possible for me to afford disney but affords me no time to actually go there! I'm not missing it though because this is the one year I'm going to CA to do the DL 1/2 and I want that Coast to Coast medal!
