Yay! Keep going!
Success report - ran my first 3 miles in a long time today and it was HOT! Stopped for water and a bit slow, but best thing is shin didn't flare up much. Guess stretching and cross-training really helps! Now to get back in the habit and slowly increase mileage and time.

I will likely do a 4 miler Monday or Wed instead of the usual 2.5 or so I get from my half hour runs to make up for not doing THAT run this weekend, then another 6.5 on schedule next weekend... this week is going to be a LOT of running!
Lately what we have been doing is go onto google maps and route it out by dropping pins until we have a nice loop through our neighborhood that is the mileage we want, being careful to watch for it doing odd things like cross the street or go a little further down one street before we turn. I like it because then we know where to stop by a landmark and can kind of turn our brains off otherwise.
