Hi girls!
Im so excited!! Today at the track I did two miles in 29 minutes. I know it doesnt seem enough but I started a 18 minutes a mile and now Im getting better. Im working with the Galloway program, right now Im only in 15 seconds running and 45 walking.

Here is what I am fallowing: Monday and Wednesday at the treadmill doing 40 minutes (running for 1 minute and walking for three) and doing 30 minutes of back and abdominal. On Tuesdays and Thursday I go to the track and do 30 minutes. And on Saturday I do my long run.

Im so excited that I can feel a difference with my running!!

Woo Hoo!!!!! You're doing great - keep it up!!!

No doubt to avoid the boredom of long runs you have to find what works for you- me I do them on a track or the road (depending on the weather and health issues) I listen to talk radio or football games. I have found for me- words are better than music and I don't scare people by all of a sudden belting out the words of a Disney song randomly as I run. Although outside I probably wouldn't bother anyone since I run out in the country and seldom see another person.

Great job! It's so exciting when your body realizes that you aren't giving up this running thing and starts to get the hang of it! Think of how much faster you'll be in 5 more months when the race is actually here!

Netflix is what got me through the treadmill last winter. I watched all of 24. I like to pick a show that has a lot of seasons to watch, because I know once I am hooked I will also watch it other times. I am going to watch season 5 of Dexter this year (not on netflix though) and am also watching Numbers. Hopefully the weather will be nice for a while longer here in Michigan to keep running outside, but you never know.

I am still not registered or anything for the Princess. DH wants to go with me and we can not figure out what to do with the kids. I feel guilty signing up because I feel I am deciding to go without him if i do and I know Disney is "his" place he likes to go even more than me. Hopefully I don't wait too long, or we figure out who can watch the kids.

You should probably be fine waiting a bit. Just watch the registration numbers. Once it gets to 90% or close to that, make a decision. But, I think you have quite a bit of time for now so I hope things work out! :)

How do you watch the registration numbers? I haven't registared yet mainly because I am still scared. However, I was thinking I will probably sign up next week before the price goes up again and also to spur me on. Maybe the only way not to be scared is just to commit.

I started with C25K, also. I switched over to the Jeff Galloway interval program, which has helped me increase my distance. That being said, my distance is only up to 4 miles. This weekend I should be running 4.5 or 5 and I am hoping that the intervals continue to work. I will say that at the end of an interval run I still feel like I can run further. I know someone suggested Hal Higdon, I had a friend that used his program and enjoyed it. It seems to me that everybody responds differently to different programs. Check out your local library and you might be able to find some books on different programs. I looked at a few before settling on the one I used. It might be that you find one that hasn't been named that works even better for you.
Good luck and Way to Go on running 3 miles! :cheer2:

You can play with the intervals a bit too. According to my pace Galloway says I should be doing 2:30/ 1 (I believe) but I did this years princess at 4/2 and I am currently training at 4/1. I am hoping to get my pace up and be able to make it run a 1/2 mile and then walk a minute, which isn't too far off of the 4/1 right now. Ideally I would like to walk a minute after each mile, but so far I can only do that for the first few miles.

Crazy thing is that I've used a treadmill at the gym many times before and it never bothered me until I fell in love with running outside. I once was blind, but now I see... :)

So Princesses - what is your trick for loving your treadmill runs? It will be icy and snowy here all too soon, and I need to figure out how to change my mind about this treadmill thing. Help!!

When I first started running I only ran on the treadmill and it was okay. After my first couple of runs outside I have not been able to do more then a mile or 2 on the dreadmill.
I am fortunate though and I have been able to make it work so that I can run outside. All summer I ran in the evening, after the sun went down. It was still hot, but not as bad when the sun wasn't beating on me. I don't mind running in the rain so that didn't stop me and we usually don't get too cold so that isn't an issue either.

So after 2 years of stalking the boards and wondering IF I could run a half marathon I decided just to go for it and I am in for both. It will be a solo trip so hoping to meet up with some others from the DIS while down there. I do feel like I am late in the game. My current best 5k times are right around 40 minutes but with 5 months to really prepare I can only hope for the best. Thanks for all the inspiration.

:cheer2: You already took the first step. I registered as soon as I could for this years Princess because then there was no backing out. It was so much more motivating for me to be officially registered.

Awesome job!! That is some commitment to run 5 days a week! And it is always so encouraging when you starting feeling/ seeing the improvement.

I plan to register before the price increase too. If you go to the run Disney page to used to register, once it hits 50% full, they post how full the race is. If you do register next week you will be fine. Last year the princess didn't sale out until right before the race.

I have a quick question regarding booking my trip. Is booking through Get Travel the same as booking through the runDisney number or do they offer different discounts?

I had the high school track to myself this morning for a slow 3 mile run.

Sometimes there are gym classes that come over in the morning. It always reminds me of how invincible you feel when you're that age. It rubs off a little and I feel young again and pick up my pace.

THANK YOU!!! :yay: your suggestions (and empathy!) are much appreciated. the dreadmill will likely continue to be my last resort, but i love the idea of tricking myself into looking forward to what i will get to watch if i do need to run inside! the netflix suggestion is one i will try with the next round of thunderstorms. i'll also work on a new playlist for music that is dedicated for my indoor running. i'll shoot for extra-motivational, happy music so that i can anticipate the auditory experience even if there isn't much to look at!! just need to be intentional about planning ahead.

Made it back out today after GI bug. Decided to take it slow and run my long run, which for me is 4 miles. Felt great to be back out there and to finish my long run with no walking breaks -outside! I really needed the mental health time, too.

good for you!! glad you're feeling better. i always feel like the return to good health causes me to be so much more thankful for ordinary, everyday life. never fun to be sick, but the silver lining is that renewed sense of gratitude for good health.

hooray for you! it's a big decision to make, but one that will pay huge dividends as you chase your dreams. i'll be cheering for you all the way!

HI everyone - I have already registered and gotten a friend to go with me so now we are just trying to find our way to this Princess 1/2 marathon! We are both over weight but training and trying! The last piece of the reservations I need to make is the hotel. I have read about "codes" are there any out? How do you get/use them? Should I wait to get one before I makes a reservation? Would love to stay @ Poly, but prob end up @ All Star....unless there is a "magic code"! Also wondering about a few other things - such as after race massages? Princess lunch after the race - Norway? Also the Spag dinner Sat night before the race? Do you need reservations for those as well? Thanks so much for your help! Looking forward t getting to know everyone here before we get to the race!

Hey All,

I am new to group but have just registered for the princess half. I was on strike for the past 3 weeks and while I was on the picket line I realized that I wanted to do something for me. I saw the princess half on the website, looked at the photos and thought that this was it!

I am so excited to see a thread for others who are doing it. I will be at Disney the week prior to the race with my family but think that I will be running alone.

I have those, too - in purple! I got them online at roadrunnersports dot com for $20 for one; I think you can order a pair for $35? If you go through ebates, you get cash back, also. I haven't found them to be miraculous or anything, but since I have it, I figured it can't hurt, so I keep wearing it. There are a couple of different kinds, but the one I ordered is specifically for calf / shin support.

I always forget about the ebates thing! And thanks for the new website idea. I LOVE internet shopping! One reason I bought those purple ones in the Orlando store was because Running Warehouse did not have purple. It was worth not getting the discount and paying the taxes.

Michele,
Have you looked into the Disney sitters? I know some of deluxe resorts offer that option and you can rent DVC points to save money too. Not sure what their hours are, or the ages of your kids. Would your husband consider running the 5k with the kids (jogging stroller?) or the royal family kids races? That way you could have the Princess all to yourself. My DH would like to run with me, but he will stay with our DS7 and DS4, walk down from Bay Lake to see me, then later, take the monorail (or bus depending on time of day) over to EPCOT to the finish. Good Luck!!

Corrected the post for Michelle instead of me. :goodvibes

I am so frustrated this morning. I did 4 miles (!!!) in under an hour on the treadmill Thursday. I decided today to run outside since it is was only 80 degrees this morning. I hadn't been running outside since South Florida has been so hot. I was using Runkeeper to meaure my speed and tell me when to change intervals. The first half mile was great! 13:46 pace and feeling good. Then...it stopped! I had to stop for a good there minutes to get it running again. Went another 1/4 mile and it stopped again! Argh! At this point I felt like the run was a waste and the temp was already up to 86, so I decided to call it and try again tomorrow morning a little earlier. Has anyone has issues with the running apps, or can anyone recommend one that won't tell me my run has stopped every quarter mile?

Thanks. We are DVC members, but I am scared to book that yet. I really want to go just DH and myself (so we don't feel the pressure to do so much of the parks) but no one wants to come to Michigan in Feb to watch the kids! Parents said to bring them down (they are in FL) and they would watch them, but that is expensive and they would have to miss school. DH would love to do the 5K. Kids would too but that would be such a different type of trip. I just feel so guilty if I decide to leave DH behind because I know he would be disappointed too. I have given myself until after I find out DS's gymnastic meet schedule next weekend (my other obstacle) to just book the room and register. After that I can worry about who is going with me and the kids. But atleast I will know I am going :)

I use runkeeper and have only had problems with it once, on my old iphone. Have you tried restarting your phone? Making sure you locked it? Have nothing else running? Also, make sure it was fully charged. What phone are you using? Overall I have had good luck with runkeeper.

It isn't crashing..it will tell me that my run has stopped and go through the statistics. I am wondering if it has to do with the gps signal strength since it won't let me start a run until it has a good signal. I may try Cardio Trainer tomorrow. At least now I know how far one lap around my apt complex is so I can just set my phone to beep every two minutes and calculate my pace at the end of the run...

RunKeeper has issues with GPS for me, but I run on a trail in the woods, but I mapped my trail's distance on the website, then just run my watch for my timing as backup. I do miss the pacing prompts when it goes wacky though.

I am hoping that for my run tomorrow that it will have great GPS tracking, I want to add it to my runs page.

If any Runkeeper users was to join my street team, please do, Penny Jean De Geer I am looking to hook up with others.

I use iMapMyRun, but that is very basic, and I don't know if you can program it to tell you when to change intervals-- it will announce each 0.2 mile (or more) or each 2 min (or more).
