Hi gang- it's been 8 days since I have ran..... I have had the worst cold of my life! Called in sick all week, can't walk up the stairs without running out of breath type of cold. I'm now to the point of feeling somewhat human, but still cough every 45 seconds, not kidding.

Question: in my PRL (pre running life :lmao:), if I was sick I wouldn't ever think of doing this but, I really want to get out and move.... Do you think a light jog/ walk would benefit my lungs or make it worse? I guess I'm wondering if moving around will clear out the lungs.....

Any thoughts from running geeks that have had bad chest colds?

Thanks as usual!
Michele. Usually I say "dig deep", but right now I'll go with Breathe!

Another reminder, PM me if you want to be added to the hotel stay list that is located on post #1 of this thread!

I just found this thread. I don't get on the boards as much as I wiould like because of work, etc. So, I am doing the Princess Half in 2012. We have reservations at POFQ, but I am considering changing to the Poly. I haven't ever done a race at Disney. So, the race is at 5:45 a.m. and I should finish in ~3 hours (give or take 15 minutes). Do you think we could make a lunch reservation that day around 1:30 p.m. and be ok?

I have run when I have had a cold, etc. My only thing is no running with a fever. I do take it easier and go with the attitude of just get out there and MOVE. Don't try to overdo it or anything!

Looking for good blister remedies... It's time to retire the shoes I wore to dinner last night, as I now have 2 blisters on 1 foot and 5 (yes--5) on the other foot, all on my toes. 3 of them are broken through. :(

Supposed to run 5 mi this afternoon if the weather isn't too humid (at least it is a bit cooler today), and I don't want these stupid blisters to get in the way!

:sad1: I feel so bad for your blisters, I know that has to hurt so bad! I don't know about remedies... I actually haven't had a blister in a while... but back before I started running and I would get a blister walking, I would pop them open, drain the fluid and trim back the excess skin, it helped them heal faster for me, but now that I'm running I'm not sure if that is exactly safe or not?? In any event, hope your toes get better, blisters suck!

I finally go to run outside today, yay! The GPS on my phone is still shoddy, but my new watch worked great! My average speed was 4.2 mph dispite it being 85 degrees and 90% humidity, so I feel good about that. I did see, though, that I run a lot faster not on the treadmill. I set the treadmill at 5.0 for running and 3.8 for walking...when not on it, I found myself doing 6.5 and 3.6. Problem being I can't run nearly as long at that speed! The average was still fine, so I am not worried about the 5k this weekend, but for a half, I need to make it manageable. Any tips? Should I just adjust my intervals, or try to slow it down?

Hi gang...I just registered today to run the Princess Half Marathon. I've only been running since October, and only regularly for the past 4 months or so. I run about 3 to 4 times/week and my longest run so far has been about 7.25 miles. I printed out the training schedule and will start Oct. 24 after my Disney Cruise.

I registered without entering a race time since I've never run in a 10K race and only ran a 5K last November. I currently run a 10K in about 1:05. I may try to get in a 10K race beforehand and register that time. I also convinced my sister to run with me.

My DD is a CM at the Boardwalk so we'll probably book a room there.

Good luck with your training everyone.

I bought that book, too! Right now my long run is about 5-6 miles with 2 shorter runs at 30 min (just under 3 miles). I'm using a 4/1 ratio for the shorter runs and a 3/1 ratio for the longer run. I finished 5.91 miles on Wednesday, but I think I'm really going to have to slow down because I could just about finish at the pace I was going. I'm caught between wanting to run faster and longer and knowing that doing too much too soon can lead to injuries. I'm just not very patient by nature. My goal is to do the Princess at a 3/1 ratio - just not sure what the pace will be.

That's awesome that you are already to 5-6 miles on your long runs. My long run this week will be about 5, which will be a first for me. I also am in the same boat with you regarding not training too much. I actually had to take off for a few days to recover cause I was training too quickly and I was having some ankle issues. Did my first Magic Mile run today and will be back on my training schedule starting tomorrow. Keep up the great work and let me know how your long runs are going. I think I am going to borrow your strategy and lower my ratio on long runs from 5/1 to 4/1 or 3/1. Think that will probably give me the ability to go further. Thanks for the help!!

I don't know about lunch reservations, but if you have a POFQ reservation with the active Disney rate and you are going to cancel, PLEASE PM me. I was hoping to get that hotel, but they had no rooms left at the specail rate for the runners. I am going with 3 other friends and we were hoping to stay there. Thanks
:goodvibes

Finished running in my first race!

And a PR!! 5km, 44:22 (8:41/km). The Island Girl race is very well organized and along a gentle even trail. Lots of encouragement from the 1/2 marathoners who left on their run as soon as the last 5kmer returned. I was able to wave Vicki (BunnyFoo form the Wish Team) on as she was leaving, GO Vicki!!!

If I can train to keep up that pace or close to it, I will be thrilled at the Princess in Feb. I am doing the Castaway Cay 5k in October (3x times since we are cruising b2b2b), then a 10k in November. I am a runner, wow!

I meet a great lady on the Ferry across to the run and her husband took a shot of me at the finish. And the list was posted before the awards, it was great to see how I did, 6 from the end, but a PR, so I am thrilled.

Im not sure where you're located in NC, but Im traveling to Huntersville (just north of Charlotte) on Oct 29 to run the Fall Harvest 10k while my DH is in Washington DC running his Marine Corps Marathon. The 10k is put on by Huntersville Family Fitness and Aquatics. You can register at www dot hffa dot com. They also have a 5k and family fun races and a costume contest! My sister is helping me with my DS7 and DS4 during my run and I've signed them up for activities as well. It looks to be a fun time! pirate:pirate::clown:

Thanks for all the info! That sounds so much fun. I had seen this one on the schedule. (I am in Charlotte) But sadly, that is one Saturday that I do not have free due to family stuff.

So went to the running store and again they said my shoes were too small and I needed to be running in different socks. Unfortunately I couldn't return the Saucony's I bought right before Labor Day and of course they were able to put me into a pair of new Nike Pegasus (which is what I've been wearing all along). So, now I have 4 pairs of tennis shoes and need to figure out what to do with them. Going to repurpose one as walking shoe to use on upcoming Disney trip, but think I need to get rid of rest.

Hoping I'm not breaking any rules here - was going to put these on Ebay or Craig's list, but thought I'd start here first.

Saucony's are Ride 4 - they're light blue, size 8, purchased in late August and were worn 4-5 times. Worked well for my feet which are slightly narrow but rode too high on the ankle for me. Left one is slightly dirty (has been washed though) as I fell in a creek with it on - please don't ask, it's one of "those" running stories. Asking $50 + shipping

Nike Pegasus 27 (blue as well) in 7.5 that are gently worn, but would be a great starter shoe for someone. Again, great shoe, would recommend for someone who wears 6.5 or 7 naturally. Asking $35 plus shipping

PM me if you're interested and I can send pictures. Also use paypal if that helps. If I don't hear from anyone in the next few days I'll just try the Ebay route.

Hi All! I survived my long run this afternoon, blisters, humidity, and all! We actually managed to do 5 miles in exactly an hour-- so a 12 min/mi pace, which is actually faster than I was planning. Whoo hoo!!

A question on hotels: are the discount prices the ones listed on the runDisney page? $149/nt for Value, $199/nt for Mod, $376/nt for Villas, $573/nt for Poly doesn't sound like a discounted rate to me! I currently have DVC points booked at SSR, but if the discounts were good I'd consider switching--are these the best rates out there??

So exciting to see everyone starting to climb up in their mileage and be so proud of themselves!!! Way to go!

I got myself out the door early this morning to take adv. of the cooler temps. It was actually chilly when I started out in just shorts and a ss shirt, but that didn't matter once the sun started coming up fully. Thankfully, a good bit of my path is shady. Got 7 miles in this morning; going for 8 but ran out of time before I had to head home and get ready for church. REALLY working on changing my form to adapt more to the whole Chirunning thing - I think I am finally getting it, and it does seem to be helping. My calves didn't tighten up AT ALL until the very end, when I knew I would be finishing soon and I kind of let my form fall apart. Unfortunately, after I've been sitting most of the day, both knees are yelling at me. Hopefully, that's just a matter of feeling the increased mileage and getting used to the new form.

Still looking at a half on Thksgvg if the knees / shins are happy with me this week!!!

Here's to another great week of training!

Congrats!! It sounds like you have a pretty solid plan.

It isn't crashing..it will tell me that my run has stopped and go through the statistics. I am wondering if it has to do with the gps signal strength since it won't let me start a run until it has a good signal. I may try Cardio Trainer tomorrow. At least now I know how far one lap around my apt complex is so I can just set my phone to beep every two minutes and calculate my pace at the end of the run...
@JCH, on the RunKeeper issue (sorry, just catching up here), I wonder if the screen isn't getting touched in your pocket? I have a SPI belt and the fabric in it is "capacitive," in other words the iPhone recognizes it as a finger (ironic given all the times I've cursed the phone while wearing gloves in the freezing cold). So when I put the phone in my SPI belt and don't lock it with the button on top, it constantly tells me my speed because it thinks I just tapped it, and it could easily have the "stop" button pushed. If the screen was already locked, I'd also suggest turning your phone off by holding the top button for 10 seconds, waiting a minute, then turning it on again. I find the GPS apps are particularly prone to making the phone need a restart.

I've tried lots of these apps (RunKeeper, RunMeter, MapMyRun, WahooFitness, C25K, LoLo, Nike+, and a few others I don't remember), and from my perspective RK is the best one in terms of stability and features. Of course, I did finally spring for a Garmin 405, and that does a better job with accuracy, but if you turn off wifi on the phone while you run they're pretty similar.

Anyway, I sent street team invitations to those of you who posted your RK names. I'm mamacate as my user name. I'm not sure if you can get to me with just my user name (and I try to limit my real-name googleability), so look for ateCay OwenRay (please translate from the pig latin) on there. I'd love to connect with more princess runners!

Another question for thought - learning how important it is to eat the night before. What will people be eating as their prep meal Saturday night?!? Trying to decide on options for a healthy/but Disneyish dinner experience. Note, can't get into parks, so maybe one of the resort restaurants I've never tried.....

Did my longest run yet. 5 miles  According to RunKeeper I averaged about a 12:30 mm. I have found RunKeeper to be pretty inaccurate on the distance. I don't know if it's just my phone. I have an Android. I usually go back in the car or go to mapmyrun.com to see how far I really went. I think I'm going to get a Garmin watch.
