Official 2012 Princess 1/2 marathon thread part 2

I have to admit I ordered a necklace even though I have no idea what it will look like. I figure if I hate it I can always give it to DD as a souvenir. :rotfl:

I also ordered a pin and I found this on-line the other day...

I got a pin and necklace too! I figured the same thing about the necklace, that if I liked it I'll wear it, but if I don't then it will just be a souvenir. However, I am a pin collector so I love adding the race pins to my collection! Thanks for the picture!

I am so disappointed that the pins are sold out when the race still has space for runners. I am a last minute entry having registered this week and definitely would have purchased the pin. Oh well, I will be at the Expo when it opens and maybe I can get a pin then.
Happy Running!
Pam

got my long run in today - 13 miles in just under 2:08. It was "feels like 18 degrees" according to weather.com. i was feeling good and lovin life for the first half, but by 8-9 miles in i was really starting to have had it. despite wearing a balaclava (i call it my ninja hat since it's this black contraption that covers my entire face except for my eyes and nose - it's like a running version of a ski mask) my lips, nose etc were just so cold.

i wish i could be a snowbird and do a rundisney event every weekend in the winter :lmao:

Great time!!!

I noticed you said you are from NE PA.... My sis in law is running with me in the princess and lives right outside Erie. Just curious if you are close to each other! Great job on the 8!

Thanks to all for your cheers...I'm one of those who are "anonymously" running the princess...I haven't told any of my friends and I don't have much family and my husband thinks its crazy to go 1000 miles to run 13.1! So, your support is appreciated! I posted my 8 today so that I might inspire someone else to brave the cold and reap the adrenaline reward.

I live in the opposite corner of PA I think...outside the Scranton area. I looked at the results from last year's Princess and there were a few locals but no one I knew. Every time I run, though, I think..."I wonder if she's a princess in training?" LOL

Hi All-
Three questions:

1-We are staying at ASSp. How do you get to Wide World of Sports to pick up you registration packet the day before the race?

2-For past runners-as you are waiting around for the race to start, just how cold is it?

3-I heard that you wear clothes you would not mind donating and you shed them as you get hot. Can someone confirm?

(Forgive me if this information has already been posted.:rolleyes1)

This is a great thread. Just reading about everyone's progress, inspires me.

Thanks.

Sorry had a "dur" moment with my pennsylvania question, she lives in northeast,pa (as in the town is called northeast) but actually located in nw pa! Oops!

Just remember, running is FOR YOU, not anyone else. I have gone so long (very happily mind you) of "the routine" of wake up make the lunches, get kids to school, clean house, etc. The training for this half, is my time. It has shown me I can do it. I have learned alot about myself in the past year, how strong I am mentally and physically. So you make the 1000 mile trip, hold your head up high and proud......dig deep and get 'er done!

1. There will be an event bus..different from buses to park and will probably pull up in front of the resort. Most likely a mears bus.

2 & 3. Cold...well you will just have to wait until closer to check the weather. I like to buy the cheap knit gloves. They have them at walmart, target etc and are about a dollar or two. You may want a long sleeve shirt to pull off and throw aside. REMEMBER runDisney is using b-tags for timing . The timing chip is attached to the bid and MUST be showing to get your time. I like to pick up a piece of fleece to wrap in before race. Garden Ridge carries fleece blankets for $3-5.

This thread is long and hard to glean info...keep asking until you get an answer. You will want to carry a camera to take pixs along the way too.

1- Is ASSp a host hotel? If so there will be buses to the Expo. If not, I would take a bus to a host hotel and then catch a bus to the Expo. If you have a car I think you can just drive to WWS.

2 - no idea...this is my first race

3 - This is true. I found stuff on clearance racks after the holidays and paid less than $6.

Great time!!!

thx! hoping to be able go sub 2 when i race but that's a big "we'll see..."

1 - i believe you can take a bus to downtown disney and catch a bus from there..but i think it's prob easiest to cab it if you don't have a car

2 - it's florida. the weather can literally be *anything*. there is no way to predict it weeks out. it could be in the 40s or it can be in the 60s.

3 - yes. you have to hang around for quite some time and you don't want to waste energy shivering, so "throwaway" clothes are a great ideat

All Star is a host resort, so there will be a bus directly from it to the expo and to the race on Sunday morning.

I echo the rest. Walmart clearance racks are great throwaway clothes fodder. I usually hit the men's department as it's good to have extra material to wrap yourself in!

if you've run a race where heat sheets were handed out, those are great to keep warm with pre-race. You can buy them in the camping section (emergency blankets.) I used a heat sheet and gloves with some hot hands to keep warm during marathon weekend and it was super easy to pack. I'll probably do the same for princess since I'll be packing for the weekend in a carryon and won't have room for an extra set of clothes to toss.

Last year, I was so full of adrenaline, I didn't get cold waiting for the race to start.

I wore my son's old sweat jacket and tossed it at mile one or two. I had arm warmers and tossed one. I used the other to wipe sweat off of my forehead. I wore shorts and I was fine.

When the sun comes up, it warms up quickly.

Thanks for sharing. I just stole this for my fb page!

Before my injuries, I ALWAYS did my runs at 4am. So when the weekends came and I ran a tad later, I would sometimes forget to wear sunglasses. For me, that can be tragic as I'm prone to migraines and the sun is not my friend for that!

So when you're packing to leave your room at 3am, don't forget the sunglasses (and your camera)!

:cheer2:

Last year it wasn't cold at all. I didn't even wear my planned throwaway.

The year before, it was definitely a lot colder.

And I agree, when the sun comes up, it can get hot and quickly. The last 5-6 miles are on the road, no shade, and it's very sunny. 2010 it was not too bad as it was a lot cooler, but 2011 it was *hot*.

I would plan on a hat/visor and sunglasses. I try to put my visor on and then my sunglasses on top of my head, and then I can't forget them.

I'm really upset that Disney doesn't have enough pins to let each registered runner purchase 2. You DO have to be a registered runner in order to buy them right? If not, that's poor practice on Disney's part. They should be offered to runners first. I just purchased the necklace so I at least wouldn't miss out on that. When I signed up for the race 2 weeks ago, it was already costing me $350 so I stupidly decided to wait on the pins. :sad1:

Now...on to a clothing question. I've been getting achy knees and am wondering whether those CW-X Stabilyx tights are worth the price? Has anyone ever used them? Do they really keep your muscles from getting fatigued? And do they hold your knees like they say they do? I've seen regular compression tights in the stores and bought a $20 pair from JC Penny but they don't seem like "miracle" tights to me. They don't seem to fit as tight as they should. I found some no-name tights on eBay from South Korea but don't know if I can trust those either. Any input on these types of running tights?

Possibly slacking today - big thunderstorms predicted. I COULD have gotten out a little bit ago, but didn't want to get 2 miles out and caught in ugliness. At least, that's my excuse;). I did 10 miles last weekend so this weekend was just a scheduled 4 - a lot easier to squeeze in somewhere tomorrow and not be too taxed for a regular run on Monday.

Talked with a friend yesterday who clearly is not one of "our kind" - she seems mystified that 2 adult women would want to go and spend time in the parks. "You mean, you two are going to go out and ride the rides?" Um, yeah! That's what Disney World is all about, Charlie Brown! I mean, you don't have to love rollercoasters to go and have a great time at Disney World.
