Official 2012 Princess 1/2 marathon thread part 2

Oh no I'm going to have to explain to a 2.5 yo that Dumbo isn't going to be open while we are there. He's going to be so sad!

From allearsnet.com:

"Dumbo the Flying Elephant in the New Fantasyland's Storybook Circus area is now scheduled to open in its new location on March 12 (it was previously expected to open on February 17). "

:dance3: Congrats!

Can I ask? Is everyone doing straight running or if you do that long on the treadmill, are you doing running/walking intervals?

Has anyone gone with only 1 potty break or is that not a good idea b/c you're not getting enough fluids?

I have been doing 1:30 run/0:30 walk intervals. I might switch to Kat's 1:30/1:00 to hit the 12.5 miles though! :)

Thank you for the replies about the walking/jogging. I had no idea that was an option! I have never done anything like this, so I'm eager to give it a shot! I'm having a hard time ignoring the little voice that says I should go for the 1/2 so I can get the bling medal vs the rubber one. :rolleyes1 It sounds like if I keep at c25k, I should be able to do the 1/2 with the jog/walk intervals, right? I guess the question is, will I really be "ready" then? Decisions, Decisions...

Does anyone know anything about the necklace that is listed on the registration page? Is it specific to the 1/2 or does it include the 5k? I noticed the pins are sold out already. That doesn't seem right that they would sell out even before the race is sold out. That means those who sign up now don't have that option to get one. Like I said, I am new to all of this, so maybe that is normal. :confused3

Pedicures. I know I shouldn't get one close to the race, etc. But I want pretty toes. Can I get one if I ask them not to do the pumice stone thing and just focus on the nails and not the rest of my feet? I'm assuming the issue would be with blisters and getting too much skin sloughed off.

This will get different responses. That said, I would not get a pedicure. I would love a pedicure and it has been so long, but I fear they may rub off something and then I would end up with "hot spots" and they hurt.

I would love to have pretty toenails, but I don't even had 10 left.

I'm going to be sad too! :sad1:
Could some one explain it to me and I'm 50 yo. I just rode Dumbo Jan 6th and it was going to be so cool to ride it at it's new location in Feb. It is always the first ride we do.

How does the spectator text thing work and how can you sign up for that?

Closer to the race there will be a link on the Princess page on the runDisney site. You just follow the link and fill in info. You can have email or text reports sent to what ever address or number you give. REMEMBER...when you sign up, you will get a text you MUST respond to to receive the text updates.

I would just do a polish change.

We signed up at The Expo for the Wine & Dine

I've been lurking for about a week or so since coming back from WDW and seeing many of you I'm sure with your Marathon medals! (Yes, I AM jealous & want my own!!)

I am on week 2 of c25k, with plans to run the 5k, if only I can get some pixie dust on the airfares!

I'm wondering how many RUN vs Jog vs run/jog the 1/2 marathons? I always thought that because it was a "marathon", everyone was at least jogging it.
There are actually a lot of people that walk most of the 1/2 and full marathons. I started the 1/2 and full marathons during marathon weekend in an earlier corral with mostly runners, but between tired legs and being pokey, and picture stops I ended up finishing with mostly walkers. By the end of the races my 'jog' was about the same pace of some of the walking being done, so there is definitely no shame in walking or jogging! When I finished the 5k I was behind a girl that was telling the person she was with that she couldn't believe her mom thought she would be the only walker in the 5k because there were a TON of them. Disney is probably the most walker friendly and fun place to do a race!

I got one a week before our last trip and ended up fine for the most part. I was actually getting blisters in one specific spot during my long runs before the pedi. Post pedi I didn't get a blister in the same spot during marathon weekend, but have this weird below the skin bruise type spot that doesn't hurt. Not sure what it is, but at least it's not a blister! I would saw you are fine with just the nails and the leg/foot massage (which is really the best part :rolleyes1)

I can't wait to fantasyland if finally open again. It'll be so magical running through there without construction walls!:goodvibes

I'll be using run/walk ratios, too. Right now I'm training with a 3 min run/1 min walk. I'm pretty sure that's what I'll be going with, but I'm secretly hoping to have enough steam to run the last 2-3 miles through.

So I am a one man cheering section for my wife and her BFF (Did I use that properly?) during the Princess. I did the spectate thing last year for the first time, and I learned a bunch from my mistakes...I wrote about my experience here, and I thought it might be helpful to pass along....

Good luck! I'll probably see most of you next month!

Thanks so much for sharing you experience. Passing this onto DH.;)

I've called RunDisney a couple of times and inquired about the necklace. Either they know what it looks like and they're keeping it hush, or they really dont have a clue what it'll look like. They did tell me that it was amazing how many people signed up for it, not knowing ANY details at all about it. Probably why they also decided to increase the registration fees for the 2013 Princess by $20 per tier. :scared1:

I agree. This could be painful. I've even hyped up the Dumbo ride to my kids already. They're expecting to tour the new Storybook area! At least we have that 40" height milestone!! Soarin & Fast Track, he were come!

Ok - who else has gross toes these days? I've got 2 icky ones on my left foot (my bigger foot). One purple toenail, and one toe that's black under the skin of the tip of the toe.

I've noticed I "clench" my toes sometimes when I'm running, which I'm guessing doesn't help. Anyone got some training tips for that?

So I got 7 miles in today for my long run! It's the most I've gotten in during my training because I've been moving so much recently. It felt good too! My calves got tight, but I'm planning on walking around, stretching, and rolling today to get them loose again.

In other good news, I'm getting my mornings back at work so I'll be able to get back on a decent running schedule again! I'm excited to get a work out routine again...

I had a toenail fall off so I'm right there with you. If you clench, do you think your shoes might be too big/small?

I have to admit I ordered a necklace even though I have no idea what it will look like. I figure if I hate it I can always give it to DD as a souvenir. :rotfl:

I also ordered a pin and I found this on-line the other day...

I just wanted to say all of you ROCK!! :cheer2: :cheer2: You are true princesses! princess: I really wanted to participate this year, but finances and health issues won't allow it. However, I'm already saving and can't wait to get the ok from doctor to start training for 2013! Until then, I'll live vicariously through all of you! :cheer2: :goodvibes

Got my longest run ever in today! 8 miles! I felt great afterward but now am getting a little tired and sore. I know I am behind according to "Jeff" but I had an injury and was sidelined for a bit. That said, 8 is GREAT for me! I wish I had my compression socks to try out to curb the soreness. I guess I will pop some Advil.

I want to thank mamacate for her inspiration! I read your account of running in the freezing cold and making the best of it! I can't remember how far or long you were gone, but, i was thinking of you every time I thought of turning around because my cheeks (both upper and lower) were frozen. If I hadn't read your post I really would not have ventured out this AM.

It was 14 here in NE PA and a little windy. I can't wear much on my legs other than running tights (underArmour coldgear) because it gets too bulky for me. So I layered my uppper body with two Coldgear sweatshirts and wore a hat and magic gloves (my 5 yo daughters bc they make me think of her). First mile I was seriously thinking I might get frostbite on my face. Mamacate had mentioned she wore a neck / face protector but I kinda forgot about it before I left. After mile 1 I started to warm up. The sun was even feeling a bit warm when I got a ray or two. After 2.5 I started to feel I was getting into the zone and really needed to keep running to stay warm. I really shouldn't have...I know that straight running is too much for my knees, but, it felt really good at the time....novice mistake. At mile 5 I took a potty break. That was my goal...make it to Magic Kingdom for a potty break and I did. By mile 6 / 6.5 my knee starting paining and I was forced to do a run /walk with more walking than running. Anyhoo...I did it. And I feel great.

Keep up all the good work ladies! Have great long runs this weekend and keep your buns and beans warm (my sport beans froze again!)...

Congrats!!! 8 miles is huge!!! :thumbsup2

I noticed you said you are from NE PA.... My sis in law is running with me in the princess and lives right outside Erie. Just curious if you are close to each other! Great job on the 8!
