Official 2012 Princess 1/2 marathon thread part 2

Looks like I am joining the princess party, or rather those running the half. :cool1: A close friend is walking, jogging her first race and I want to be there to support her. Trying to make arrangements tomorrow.
Happy running,
Pam

is anyone using sparkpeople to track their nutrition? i haven't kept a food diary in years, but i've been having some potential iron deficiencies, so i decided to keep a log of what i'm eating so i can see what's going on. it's really quite fascinating to see how everything all adds up!

Welcome Pam!

Fashionista, I lost 15 lbs with sparkpeople a few years ago. It's a good site with a good vibe, I think. I found it more motivating and helpful than WW, and they have a pretty decent food database.

I'm having trouble getting in the weekday runs...it's always something! I'm still feeling good about being able to finish ahead of the sweepers (my only goal). I made a bunch of new ADRs for the vacation my DD9 and I will be taking the week before, so it's feeling pretty real!

So who is signing up for DL 1/2 today? Does it offer a discount on the DL hotels and tickets as well? I plan on doing it I just want to hold off and register after the Princess and make sure that I finish it before going for the coast 2 coast.

I signed up for it last week when it opened to Disney Visa holders. I am SO EXCITED!!!

Welcome Pam!

I plan to register for the DLR 1/2 after princess (or at the expo if there is some magical discount..) as the chips are starting to fall in to place to repeat coast to coast..

I signed up at the expo last year and although I was registered I did not get a registration confirmation. It was weird. There was a little discount - I think no active fee; however for me it was not worth the headache it caused me. I was sooooooo worried that I was not registered.

I've been lurking for about a week or so since coming back from WDW and seeing many of you I'm sure with your Marathon medals! (Yes, I AM jealous & want my own!!)

I am on week 2 of c25k, with plans to run the 5k, if only I can get some pixie dust on the airfares!

I'm wondering how many RUN vs Jog vs run/jog the 1/2 marathons? I always thought that because it was a "marathon", everyone was at least jogging it.

I will run/walk the 1/2. I do 3:1 intervals so three minutes of running and one minute of walking.

I have done 3 1/2 in my life, using the run/walk method. I run a minute or 2 and walk one minute the whole way. I did a Galloway group for my first 1/2 and loved it. Right now I do minute run and minute walk. On my short runs during the week...I am finding my endurance is up and my walks are more jogging....when I run I really try to push myself. For the long training runs, as prescribed by the program, I slow down and my walk is a very brisk walk and my run is a fast jog.

There are those who can run the whole way.....and those who jog and those who walk and those who do a combination of some kind. I have tried to do straight jogging and I just don't like it....I think there is something about being cued to speed it up or slow it down that breaks the monotany for me.

Stick with C25K...it works! I found when I went to straight run at the end, I missed walking. I did 2 halfs 10 years ago and then when I started running again for last year's Princess did C25K. Great program.

Oh and I am SO With you on the airfare......its crazy. We are flying to california for alot cheaper than the fares I am seeing to Orlando....from Atlanta! GRRRRRR at least we are within driving distance, though I would rather just fly down.

I'm in danger of being swept I'm so slow but I have worked my shorter weekday runs upto a 30 second run/30 second walk and my really long runs - over 6 miles to 30 second run/90 second walk. I started with C25K but didn't like giving up the walk breaks and so I switched to lolo - Jeff Galloway 5K app on my phone which kept the walk breaks.

I think we are driving in that morning (from Tampa) for our 1st day and my kids are doing the races too, so if you wait until then you won't be alone in the slack department. ;)

The only issue we noticed when picking up our packets for the Jan 2011 5k was that the kid size t-shirts we pre-ordered were gone already. My DS6 was so upset! I assumed because we pre-ordered his size, it would be there when we arrived. Apparently a bunch of people before us had pre-ordered the wrong size. He ended up with an adult t-shirt--all they had left. It looked like a dress on him as he HAD to wear it to show off to his kindergarten class upon our return! Bummer!

Happy Thursday!

Nikki - When we went to the Wine & Dine they were not allowing people to change shirt sizes, so hopefully they changed the policy on that.

The shirts sizes/styles have been a problem. The unisex sizes even in extra small do not fit a small woman. I wear them, but they are very large on me. I do know that Disney is pretty strict about changing the size (you get what you ordered). However, I would contact rundisney to complain and perhaps they can find a small shirt for your son. You did not get what you ordered and especially for a child, that is not right. I suspect there were others that got an adult shirt too. Good luck and Happy running!

So I am a one man cheering section for my wife and her BFF (Did I use that properly?) during the Princess. I did the spectate thing last year for the first time, and I learned a bunch from my mistakes...I wrote about my experience here, and I thought it might be helpful to pass along....

Good luck! I'll probably see most of you next month!

Excellent use of BFF. ;)

Thanks, this was great. I forwarded it on to DH. :)

THanks for posting this! Wondering if I could eat a sweet roll when running by the Poly. ;-)

i find that in general unless the race has gender-specific xs shirts, the shirts never fit me. cest la vie...i have a huge pile of t-shirts and tech shirts as pajamas. :lmao: i don't know why the wdw marathon weekend can't do gender specific shirts since they do them for the princess and now tinkerbell.

Pedicures. I know I shouldn't get one close to the race, etc. But I want pretty toes. Can I get one if I ask them not to do the pumice stone thing and just focus on the nails and not the rest of my feet? I'm assuming the issue would be with blisters and getting too much skin sloughed off.
