Official 2011 Princess Half Thread Part II!!!

We have sheets of ice covering everything here in Northern VA, so no running tonight. I probably shouldn't run anyway because of my knee; which I have self diagnosed as IT band problems (why do I pay for health insurance if I don't go to the doc....) My dad taped it up tonight and I'll try swimming tomorrow, and then run on Thursday.

I also am buying my running skirt tonight princess: I hope my outfit looks as good in real life as it does in my head!

Have been a lurker for a long time but had to share...I am running the Princess Half with my husband, 15yo daughter, sister and brother. My brother and I ran The Chicago Marathon this past October and now get to share this Half with my sister, DH and DD. We are really excited.

I have not received any emails with the waivers. Is this something I should be worried about?

If you haven't tried the CW-X running tights, specifically the Stabilyx ones, they did wonders for my IT band and I had no issues with it during the Marathon - they are really great for that and I personally didn't get too warm running in them. The best treatment for IT band syndrome is rest and RICE but the tights are a great in between.

Go to the rundisney site and the Princess Half Marathon page. They have a link where you can print them. Otherwise, they have computers and printers at the Expo for you to use for free. There was never a line at any of the Disney Expo's I have been to - even the Marathon. So, you may just want to wait until then. Have fun! :)

I used the Interval Run app. it ws like 1.99 LOVE IT. I paid for another app first 4.99 and hate it. It has great prompts can control how loud and you can play your music behind it.

And to share with you and ban26...

The long run last weekend was HARD at the end. I kept looking at my garmin like it was going to make the distance go faster...yeah right. I really wanted to quit, but was on a path so had to at least walk back to my car. I decided shortly after mile 9, just not to look at the watch. I literally talked myself in to keep going one "you can do this, don't give up, take it easy, your goal is to just finish..." I kept saying in my mind. When my watch beeped at 10 miles I started to cry....I couldn't believe I made it. It was hard, but i was so proud of myself. I know after this race I will be a mess.

Its very emotional this running...you aren't alone.

The updated runtracker pro app also does intervals and is actually loud now...but best of all it is free for the entire month of January so I would recommend that one again...I had problems before with the volume not being great but this time around it has been a wonderful app and to have the full version for free...you can't beat it! :)

I agree with the rest part for sure (haven't tried the tights, but plan to get some and give them a go ASAP). My training plan came from Marathoning for Mortals. Thanks to facebook and twitter, I was in pretty close touch with mainly Jenny Hadfield, and she strongly encouraged me when my IT band flared up (she would say at ANY pain) to take three complete days off. Meaning if it hurt on Sunday, I rested Monday, Tuesday AND Wednesday. Starting Tuesday (to use those days), if it was feeling ok I could do some specific yoga stretches (go to runnersworld.com and do a search...they have some great videos). And then on Thursday I could try things out again. Every time, that method worked and I was able to start back and not lose anything really.

I'd rather take the rest and let it heal than keep going and do more damage preventing me from running the race. But maybe that's just me.

Do you have a foam roller? So very ouchie the first few times, but such a huge difference for my IT band!

I checked the site and cannot find a link to the waver to print out.

Can someone direct me to where that is?

TIA

Thanks for this advice! My heel has been bothering me since Sunday's run..so taking tomorrow off and will look up some yoga instead.

Got home from work and my tutu box was waiting for me on the porch...is it weird that I'm 33 and twirling around my house in a tutu? I don't want to take it off! :dance3: It's soooooo cute...a little puffy, but I expected that and had the lady that made it give me a few tips on how to remedy that on the particular style that I bought. Now just waiting on the last few iron-on rhinestone designs that I had made and the tiara pony tail holder and I'll be all set for my outfit...then all I'll have left to think about is those last few looooong runs to get through...oh and making sure everything I need actually ends up in the suitcase!

Is there an app with dual timers that go indefinitely... 3 min then 1 min. I have gymboss but can't figure out how to keepnit going for hours.

If your heel is bothering you, definitely stay off of it. I ended up with plantar fascitis from standing in line too long at Universal, going to DTD and then running the Marathon. Not fun at all...I wouldn't even explore the parks until after the race and ice it every chance you get. I would really say that Plantar Fascitis is a lot worse than the IT band syndrome that I ended up with after the DL half! I almost thought I had broken something or gotten a stress fracture, but didn't turn out that way after seeing the Sports Medicine doc.

Runkeeper pro does that. It took me some time to figure it all out, but I just tried it out when I wasn't doing any of my runs and it worked so great!

I have been reading this thread since September and am finally getting the courage to say hi! Thank you to everyone that has posted information and motivation over the last few months.

This is the first time I have ever attempted something like this, unless you count a 5K I ran in the 5th grade. However, after reading this thread and months of "training" I think I might be able to make it!

OK I'm jumping in! I'm so excited for the Princess half!! I will be running alone (booo!). My daughter, 4, will be running the day before and hopefully she and a friend will be waiting for me at the finish line or the family reunion area.

Does anyone know if they need a park ticket to get to the finish line or the family reunion area?

Anyone else training in the Florida Panhandle area - Pensacola? If so, are you guys doing the Double Bridge Run as a training run?

I am training in the Florida Panhandle but in DeFuniak Springs. I had a friend that ran a 10K in Pensacola Beach last weekend. However, I didn't think I could make it there in time. Okay that's an excuse. I had taken a month off from running because of craziness in my schedule/life and didn't feel prepared to run a 10K. I am planning to run a 10K in Destin at the end of January. I just have to get use to the idea of finishing last. I looked at last year's times and they are all better than what mine will most likely be.

Shelby, I had PF in the OTHER foot this year so bad I had to get cortisone. Bad shoes, on my feet all day..... I am laughing at myself at how I am determined to keep running..the old me would have been, umm, slight twinge..bye bye exercise. What doc did you see, I am looking for a sports doc because I am worried about the shin/calf now heel issue. Maybe its just PF in the other foot. Sheesh. I saw a Podiatrist at Northside for my other foot, but now that I am running looking for a sports doc. I don't think Dr Julien takes my insurance..but am checking tomorrow. oh and I saw your thread about the tri, a friend of mine does them. I will ask her and let you know what she says. She used to train people for them, but has another career these days. Thanks for your advice. ice is my friend and got the prostretch back out.

Dr. Brandon Mines at Emory Orthopedics and Spine Center. He is great, and so is his current assistant - she was really thorough. The best thing is that you rarely have to wait long for an appointment. I had mine the day after I called which was unheard of with my other Sports Medicine doctors. http://www.emoryhealthcare.org/sports-medicine/sports-medicine-physicians/index.html

I am surprised how painful PF is of course it isn't great that I have Achilles Tendonitis in addition but both are fairly mild cases so they say...I don't feel that way! Thanks for checking with your friend on the Tri's. :)

The iron on rhinestones worked perfectly on the tech shirt...I'm all BLINGED out! My outfit is now complete (again)! I am satisfied and ready to run!
