Official 2011 Princess Half Thread Part II!!!

Hope this is okay. I wanted to share an article about running mantras that I found informative and inspiring. It's good timing as I needed the reinforcement.

I seem to naturally fall into using a mantra on particularly rough training runs (you can do this. you can do this.), but I've never approached them thoughtfully and deliberately. I think I'll try out a few in preparation for the Princess, though.

As I see it, my biggest hurdles are 1) starting too fast and 2) my head (negative thoughts on a loop).

I'm trying to train myself to maintain pace by (occasionally) consulting my Garmin and having it chirp at me for my run/walk intervals. And I want to come up with a couple of mantras for the race to help if/when my head starts getting in the way.

Does anybody already use mantras? Care to share?

Happy tutu hunting!! :dance3:

Thanks for the information! I am having fun hunting down a tutu. I just know that I have to decide by Friday and get whatever it is I want or it will be too late.

I have one that I wrote on a sock I cut off and wear around my wrist (I don't like how my Garmin rubs without it)....

YOU MUST RUN!

:rotfl2: I know it is not all that "positive" but sometimes I just need to remind myself that I have to do it!

just ordered my sparkle skirt!!! woohoo!!! I debated and debated over a DIY tutu or these and I think I chose right. With a potential 6+ hours wearing the costume I think the sparkleskirt was the way to go. I even got another one (black) to wear to another 1/2 I'm doing in March in Va Beach! Getting excited!!!!!
AND I had a pain free run today. Who knows what is up with the juju today? I'm struggling to get past 6 miles still (today did a 57minute 5 miles). Hopefully we'll get there soon...

I'm behind on my training by a lot. Today I ran 10k. It's the farthest I've ever run in my life. IN MY LIFE! My pace was 15:18...enough to not be swept. I felt so amazing afterward. I was cursing at myself in my head as I was running because I kept wanting to cut my run intervals short. I kept saying to myself "you've never stuck to anything in your life. People who are much bigger than you can do this. You're not tired, you're just lazy." And I fought through the mental block. I was my own Jillian Michaels lol.

I'm not a fast person, I'm not a skinny person. But man, to get over all my insecurities like that. I almost cried. I just wanted to share. :)

This is the place to share! Congratulations! I am so proud of you. You will definitely be ready for the race. We will all be there to support you and be your Jillian. Great job!

Meg:cheer2:

Okay, got the free app but how do I get it to do 3 min then 1 min? I want to run for 3 then walk for 1.

:wave2: Howdy stranger! So nice to see you! Come see us on the BL princess thread. :flower3:

well gals, i did it. i canceled the sitter cuz you know what? i just don't feel like running today. it's rainy and i'm feeling lazy. i rescheduled and she's coming tomorrow so i can run.

i know, i know, i'm slacking. but hey, sometimes you just gotta veg out, right?

i love all the costume talk! i can't wait to see what everyone looks like! i'm still just going to do running capris and a t-shirt. i wonder what the weather will be like? lately i've been running with TWO pairs of running tights, a t-shirt, a long sleeve over that and a running jacket over that and a winter hat because it's been so cold. i'm hoping i won't need that much on race day!

Dumbo buddy - you definitely earned your day off! Enjoy the break!

On Mantras: when I race I remember something DH told me before my first half: "remember that this is YOUR race, don't worry about what other people are doing...they're all running THEIR own race too"

And as for me - I got in a slushy wet 5 today. I got some stretch-on spikes in my stocking and finally got a chance to take them for a spin today, and boy did I need them! They made me feel invincible :) However, they did slow me down...but I'd rather still be upright and moving than flat on my back.

Hi princessess...I am taking today off to rest my calf/shin/foot...which is now feet. I suppose I have been overcompensating for the sore heel in the left and now the right heel - the old PF foot is a little sore. STRETCHING, ICE and taking it easy. I will do an EASY 30 minutes tomorrow. Gonna get out the old night splint too...and wear nothing by my tennis shoes...yeah good times!

I am honestly in a little funk, the top sports med doctor doesn't take my insurance so he is out, but I have a couple options so I shouldn't complain.

I know when my team sparkle gets here I will be a new set of happy.

Oh and KRISTINU.... LOVE your mantra! I think I will download some new tunes..that will cheer me up.

Sorry Julie! Take it easy and I am hope that you find a great Sports Doctor who takes your insurance and can get in soon! You have done a ton of training up to this point, so some rest isn't going to hurt you at all. You are more than ready to be at the Princess! :cheer2:

I don't have a mantra but when I get tired I do something I read in a Jeff Galloway book. I wrap an imaginary rope around someone in front of me and let them 'pull' me for a while. I actually does help. Sometimes I also try and match steps with someone in front of me; this doesn't always work...some people are quick!

Anyone else run on a bike trail? I do on weekends and the bikes always scare me half to death when they pass. They don't give warning, just zoom on by. And for some reason when I get scared I vear left, so I almost hit them..Luckly the trail isn't too crowed right now, so it isn't a big deal, but what happens this spring?

I am staying at a Non Host Hotel, the Swan. I am going to buy my airline ticket tonight...plan on getting to Orlando around 1 or 2. I want to do the expo on FRIDAY. Is it possible to just go there from the airport and THEN get to the swan. Or you think I should check in the swan and get to the expo. Thinking through this, I guess I don't want to lug my stuff around the expo!

I am going to have to take a shuttle of some kind to the swan as I am not getting a car.

Still working out the logistics, but wondering what to do.

I guess my LONG question is how do I get to WWOS from the Swan if I don't have a car? THANKS!!!!!! I am such a spaz today!

The easiest way for you to get to WWOS from the Swan would be to go to DHS and catch the bus to WWOS. I believe that is the only park that has a bus heading there to WWOS.

You will need to get a shuttle (Mears or someone else) from MCO to the Swan, but from the Swan you an either take the Friendship Boat or walk to DHS.

This is what I was planning on doing, but then I read on here that they discontinued bus service from DHS to WWOS.

How do we find out if they have bus service or not?

I just checked the transportation link on this site and I think it was written a while ago,,,it said transportation will be discontinued fro HS and remain at all stars resorts and carribean resort

That's a good one, I will definately try it.

I try to focus on someone infront of me and try to keep their pace. I ran behind one guy that had an ironman tatoo on the bottom of his leg for several miles in one race. I also swear at myself :rolleyes1 and just keep talking myself thru it.

Does anyone have pics and prices of the official merchandise from past princess weekends, or other disney races? I'm trying to figure out how much money to transfer onto my reward card from my Disney visa, and really only want to transfer enough for what I want to buy.

Well I did it! Got my plane ticket, getting in a little later than I wanted Friday at 2:40, but what do you do? Hopefully the Mears Shuttle won't be a nightmare I was really hoping to do the expo on Friday, but whatever. This is the first time I have traveled alone in almost 8 years! What am I going to do with myself on that flight.....:cool1:

I know what you mean, I'm excited to be going on my own too! This is the first thing I've ever done on my own. Dh and I have lived together since we were 18, I always have kids with me, etc. I'm sooooo excited to be going by myself. Of course I'll be taking homework with me, but I'll get to pee without an audience, eat something besides leftover chicken nuggets, and stand in line without having to answer a million "why" questions. Oh yeah, and at some point in my trip I'll run 13.1 miles.:rotfl:

@JDruns - Okay I know that this is going to sound funny but everytime I need a boast I hear Dori from Finding Nemo in my head singing..."Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming." I guess that means I'm a true Disney geek, but it makes me smile. :happytv: Thank you Ellen Degeneres.

So I'm doing my first run in my costume tonight. I am wearing a full Snow White Costume to run in. 2 concerns: 1-The skirt is sequeny and therefore scratchy when I let my arms down for my walking breaks. Tonight I will try tucking the sides up into my hydration belt to see if that helps. 2- I'm afraid I'll be roasting. I have never run in anything but dry wick and this is fake velvet (aka polyester not cotton that has to be a plus).
