Hello! I haven't posted in quite a while. I have been busy with kids and just life! Anyways, about 3 weeks ago I started having knee pain. It's a sharp pain just under my knee cap. It came out of nowhere when I was in my Saturday long run (12 miles). I've never had any kind of knee pain before. I bought a Patellar Tendon Strap hoping that would help but it hasn't . I'm a little nervous that the pain isn't going to go away and that I won't be Abel to do the princess half. Has anyone else had this pain? If so, what did you do for it? One personal the running store told me to run through the pain but I don't think that's a good idea!! Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks!!

I am having the same issue, as well as pain in the side of my knee (ACL replacement on this knee a couple of years ago). My Orthopod said it's either Patellar Tendonitis or a Torn Meniscus. The sharp pain in the front of the knee obviously attributing to the Patellar Tendonitis and the side pain possibly being the Mensical tear. Obviously for tendonitis, just rest, ice and take some Aleve or an anti-inflammatory. But, common sense says to have a specialist take a look. Better off now than aggravating it down the road.

Did my first 5k this weekend.... not the best time in the world (44:56) but hey, a month ago i would have laughed at you if anyone mentioned my name and a 5k together.... baby steps! :cheer2: I'm just happy I got under 15 min miles!

Congrats on doing your first 5K! I remember doing my first one and I was really nervous about it. Dead last finish even. But I got through it and I'm now training for my first marathon. Keep up the hard work!

Sabnrob06 - Sharp pain in the knee sounds serious. Good Luck.

If it was me, I would ice my knees after every run. I would see a sports medicine doctor and get some physical therapy underway. Right now, I do several exercises to help my knee area that were taught to me at the physical therapy place. I also ice for 15 minutes after every run. I am keeping my fingers crossed that something bad doesn't happen to me too, so I can run the princess marathon.

I will be running a 5 mile Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving day. Anyone going to join me? What better way to start Thanksgiving Day.:)

I signed up for the Turkey Trot in my area too!! I'm excited! My parents are going to do it with me! I'm excited for them to get out and do some exercising. They're going to walk together and I'm going to do my best to run as much as I can! Good luck! :cheer2:

i'm planning on doing a 5 mile run on thankgiving morning in brooklyn.

today is day three of my "rest my foot" phase. i will try to get out tomorrow morning before my mommy & me class (i'm teaching the tuesday classes on my own now!).

i really really hope it feels good!

i found a stroller cover online that is supposed to keep the baby warm: http://www.amazon.com/Warm-Lamb-Sin...iewpoints=1&sortBy=bySubmissionDateDescending

this way i don't have to worry about not getting my runs in during the cold months!

I'm in too, signed up yesterday.

I'm a little bummed today though because I had originally planned to do the WDW 1/2 in January and pushed back to the Princess to give me a bit more prep time. Today I checked my SWA free flight voucher and found that it expires 1 week BEFORE the Princess. I had checked it prior to the WDW timeframe and knew I had plenty of time.

Now I've not only got to get physically prepared, I've got to pay for a cross-country flight too. Oh well. At least I saved $10 on registration, right??? :)

You could try to call Southwest and see if they are willing to work with you. You never know since they are so customer friendly.

You can extend the life of your vou@her for $50 rt.

I too signed up the other day-- wanted to get in before the price hike. And I signed up DD4 for the kids' races so that should be fun.

I did my first 10K race on Saturday-- and finished dead last. Ok, well not dead last, because another lady and I agreed to cross the finish line together. It was wierd because on the one hand, I felt totally intimidated by everyone else who were so much faster. But I finished with a 14.3 minute/mile pace which should not get me swept for the princess, and that's honestly all I really care about. And if you had told me three months ago I would go 6.2 miles at all, I would have asked what parallel universe you had visited :) So I am going to take that momentum and keep going-- but it is a little hard not to compare yourself to the others..

I'm running my 1st 10k on Nov. 13th. They have last year's times posted and according to that I might come in before 2 people (both ages 60 -69). I get so nervous thinking about it. I keep reminding myself that my goal is to finish and that is all.

I hope I can find someone to cross the finish line with me!

Hey, my first 10K I was 594 out of 603 ~ and one of those behind me was around 5. You're getting out there, and that's what matters! Where you finish isn't as important as that you're trying! (Ok, unless you're in the Olympics...and even then I'd pretty much say the same thing. It's the spirit of competition and the courage to start that's important!)

I think it is so wonderful that you did a 10k and that you are under 15 min/miles! To me that is AWESOME!! I can't wait until I can do that good! On the bright side - I will probably be behind you at the princess, so i will distract the slow bus for you! :rotfl:

I'll be doing a Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning as well. I'm deciding between a 5k or a 4-miler. I guess I'll see which one my sisters want to do!

I'm sure this has probably been discussed already a bit, however I am still a tad confused. I'm hearing that they require you to be at the race 2 hours before the start. Which would be 4 am. But that then all you is stand around and wait. And last year it was so cold people were really miserable. Is there a real reason to get there so early?

We will not be in a front corral. It will probably be at least 6:30 before we even cross the start line. If we planned to arrive between 5 and 5:15, is that not enough time to get in position, etc.?

The reason to be so early has to do with road closures.

What Amy said.

Keep in mind it takes at least 10 min to check your bag, and another 20 to walk to the corral. If you want a port-a-potty stop in there, add 15 min for waiting in line. They close the corrals at 5:30.

As to the cold, I would recommend getting the following at walmart, target, big lots, dollar store or a thrift store, that you don't care about discarding:
1) a pair of cheap gloves
2) a cheap blanket earmuffs or a headband that covers your ears (bondi bands work, and also work for sweat wicking so you may want it anyway)
4) a zip up hoodie or sweatshirt, and/or sweatpants

They donate all discarding clothing, etc. so you can consider it for a good cause.
