I just ran my last run until my half on Saturday. I am not as nervous as I was a week ago. I am anxious to do it, and I am anxious to get it behind me. This is something I NEVER thought I'd be doing.

The race is at 0800, and I hope to be out of there by 1130 because it's 2 hours back home and my nephew is getting married at 3pm. I know I am cutting it close, but it's doable and I didn't want to miss this opportunity. So....what that means is that I won't be able to post about my run until Sunday.

Welcome chernabogfam...how wonderful to have a mom daughter trip for the race!

Trudes, good luck this weekend...I am sure you will do great in the race. Drive safe on the way back!

Wow, what a full schedule for tomorrow! Good luck with the race; enjoy the wedding!

Lol, ok, I should be ok.

I found a cute vinyl decal for my car. It's a Disney Princess Tiara with 13.1 inside of it. Found it on ebay and I bought one for my sister too. Hope she likes it. Now I am waiting to be able to buy a Princess in Training running shirt.:)

I just got one of the cute princess tiara decal for my car too! ebay...gotta love it! I am so there!! but....4months on the countdown....kinda catches your breath!

Have a great time this weekend. I know you'll race wonderfully! If you can, bring an ice pack for the car ride home!

I'm still in recovery mode and thinking/worrying about my upcoming ten mile race. I am so not ready to start half marathon training again!

I am running 10 tomorrow. I was trying to get the organizer to change the date to Sunday so it would be the 10 for Texas on 10/10/10.

I think one of the better things about the W&D was that it forced a mile or longer walk post race getting rid of much of the soreness; for me.

I was more sore the day after W&D than I have ever been after a race. I think it's because I am usually on my feet more after a race and just didn't get the chance this time.

10 on 10/10/10 is such a cool idea! Maybe I should try for 10 on Sunday... A nice slow 10. Or maybe the 7 I planned :)

Long story short-- the Monday before the Mickey 5K, my left knee began to hurt. I babied it through the week, ran and mostly walked the 5K and had a GREAT time and experience. Came back anxious to start training for the Princess using the Galloway plan on rundisney. But my knee still hurt, so I decided to see a Sports Med doctor. What she thought was bursitis turns out to be a stress fracture according to the MRI I had yesterday.

I am so disappointed since I think this may knock me out of the 2011 Princess! And my cousin has just decided to do it with me. I haven't spoken with my dr. yet since the MRI, so I'm hoping she can give me some alternative activities I can do while this heals so I won't lose to much aerobic conditioning. Then we'll have to see.

And I'm pretty sure I know how I got this. Due to the Carolina heat and humidity this summer, I trained exclusively on the treadmill. About two weeks before the 5K, I took my training outside since I would be running the race outside. I think I should have made the transition sooner. I probably ran too many miles on the harder surface... Probably hasn't helped that I ran the 5K on it either! :sad2:

MamaCrush, sorry to hear about the injury. I hope it's not as serious as it sounds, and you can get out there soon. But do take extra care of yourself. If it is a stress fracture, make sure it heals completely before you run on it again.

That is actually going to be the hardest thing for me to do! I've only been doing this for 3 months and I'm so afraid that if I take this "break" (no pun intended...), I won't start back. I've lost 40 pounds in 3 months since starting to run, and I just don't want to lose my momentum...

But the reasonable adult inside my head tells me that rest is the fastest and safest way to get back... I hate being an adult... ;)

Do you have somewhere that you could swim or do some aquatic running, while you're on the injury list?

I'm looking into that, actually. I'll have to join the Y, but that may be worth it...

Talk with your doc before heading into the pool for aquatic running or any other activity that could put stress across the SF. A SF high in the tibia is a tough work around.

Make sure to ask about row machines, recumbent cycles and water activities. There is a good chance they will let you play with these but then there is a chance they will not. If they nix all the above then make sure the Y has an arm cycle that you could work on. It is not very romantic to crank out a bunch of time on an arm cycle but it beats sitting on a couch.

You could also do strength workouts at the Y, if you join. Obviously full body weight and anything crossing the SF are out but you have the enitre upper body to work to tone up. Strength training is the third leg in a great fitness plan.

Regardless of all the above, take 2-3 rest days a week. While a crack in a bone seems insignificant, it does require a certain amount of the body's energy to repair.

Thanks, Coach, for the suggestions. I will definitely check with her on all that. Also-- does it sound reasonable to you that my last minute transition to running on a track is the cause? Nothing else really out of the ordinary occurred during my training... Would just like to do whatever I can in the future to avoid having this happen again.

Not really.... but it is hard to day. I have suffered a couple SF in my days and one was an over use injury and the other I felt as it happened when making a quick stop on a run to avoid traffic.

A transition from treadmill to road will usually cause soft tissue injury from muscle strains to blisters. I guess that if you punded harder than normal on the first run off the mill that could have created the stress.

Also, make sure you are getting sufficient doses of calcium, even more in the next 6 weeks.

Thanks, I will definitely check my calcium intake.

Also, once I'm cleared by the dr. of course, are there any particular muscles you would recommend I strengthen or would that not really help with prevention-- although I do realize it would help with my overall running and fitness.
