Maybe I'm weird, but I didn't find the gel messy at all. I ripped the top off, put my mouth on the wrapper at the hole (yes, I'd washed them first), and pressed the gel into my mouth.

Is there some other way you're supposed to do it?

Just back in NYC. It is COLD here.

We had a fantastic trip. Running with Jeff Galloway on Friday was amazing. He is such a cool guy.

Finished the race in 2:20:28. Yes, 28 seconds SLOWER than Philadelphia. At least I'm consistent. I'm not too broken up about it, considering that I was sick all of last week, and had spent most of yesterday walking around EPCOT.

Running through DHS and DAK was pretty fun. There were issues at the start though, and many of us were running on the grass alongside the highway, due to people who had lined up incorrectly. The crowd (cast members and volunteer) support was really super, and they had the Osborne Lights all lit up for us in DHS. It was pretty surreal.

The mile 11 clock was broken. This made me very unhappy.

The finish line party was not fun, IMHO. WAY too many people, many of whom had been drinking for hours before the runners got there. It took me an hour to find my boyfriend, because the cell service was awful.

At this point, I'm not 100% sold on the Princess. Disney didn't do the greatest job organizationally. I only waited 15 minutes for a bus from my host resort to the start, but plenty of people waited an hour, and arrived shortly before the start of the race.

We'll see. At the moment, I'm looking forward to some down time with my cat :)

Congrats on the race!!! :cool1:

And yes! It's cold here in NYC! I did a 10K on Governor's Island, and with the wind it was definitely frigid at the start!! Once I was running I was fine...but when I finished it was straight for my bag and my hoodie!!

Great race time!

Glad you enjoyed running with Galloway and enjoyed the rest of your trip too. Perhaps some of the disorganization is a result of it being an inaugural race? Of course, you would think regardless, WDW would have it figured out from all the other races they host.

How early did you catch the bus before the race? There might be a lesson in that for all of us running the Princess.

I was on a bus at 6:50 PM for a 10:00 PM race.

well it's not a wine and dine update but i will tell everyone that i ran 9 miles today! my longest yet! it took me 1hr 41min to complete which puts me at a 11:17 min/mile pace.

Good job, your time is great. I run slower on my long runs too. I can't keep the same pace as I do on my short runs.

Amy congrats on your time, you did fantastic!:woohoo: I think it's great that you got with run with Jeff Galloway.

I have ATT, I am hoping for good cell phone coverage at the Princess.

I am sorry to hear about your disappointments.

I like the jelly beans sport beans. I used them twice now, and they seem to help me.

I have a packet of those and clif shots that are next up to try. I like that the beans don't seem as messy

Congrats on completing the race. I think it's so awesome you got to run with Jeff Galloway. Sorry about the disappointments. But it does make me think taking a cab would be well worth the cost over the hassle of waiting for a bus.

That's probably the right way. I didn't eat the whole gel at one time. It was too thick and too sweet for me to have all at once. So the messy part came when I tried to roll it back up and then put it in the pockey of my handheld water bottle.

I agree. I started with GUs and tried the beans last weekend, and I prefer them. Less messy and not nearly as sweet. I like the cherry "super energy" ones with caffeine.

I am like the other poster and don't want it all at once. You are doing it right, though. :)

Sorry about the disappointments. :(

Thanks for the recap, and yay on running with Jeff!

I thought the Princess was fairly well organized, at least more than it seems as though W&D was. However, I drove to the start and did not do bag check, so I can't speak to the bus situation.

I do think the Princess corral situation was a bit nuts. At the RnR I did, they did a wave start with 30 corrals (20K people). Princess had 12K, and only 5 *large* corrals. Being mostly a walker then, it didn't bother me too much, but I can see it being an issue for those that run the whole thing.

Good job, your time is great. I run slower on my long runs too. I can't keep the same pace as I do on my short runs.

I had Sprint at the '10 Princess and had no problems with coverage.

Amy! Congrats on the run! I'm bummed that you weren't completely happy about it though :( i hope you'll still do the princess! hopefully the fact that it was the inaugural race it had something to do with the disorganization.

I am sure that there would be some logistics issues with it being the first time they offered that race. I don't know why the clock being broken at mile 11 would have been such a big deal...as long as you are keeping your pace all other miles it shouldn't be something that would ruin a race. JMHO. We always meet up at the baggage pick-up because so many people using cellphones at the same time is not something that works anywhere although at the Princess I had no issues but at DL I did. I always drive to the races, so I have no idea how the bus service is - except that I always beat them! ;) I thought that the Princess was very organized and the Disneyland Half was as well even with there being considerably more runners - we had corrals down two streets because there were so many more than at the Princess. I am sure that the WDW Marathon will be incredibly organized. Sorry your experience wasn't a great one but your time was great and it sounds like the atmosphere was very nice. Regardless, it is up to you if you will let that experience ruin your chances of running at Disney again. I think personally that your expectations were a bit too high. No race is perfect and there are always going to be things that can be done better. I hope your cat helps you recuperate.

The mile 11 clock was just a personal thing for me. Mile 11 is where I hit my wall. EVERY damn time I run. I count on the clocks to adjust my run pace, and my race sort of fell apart, not having an accurate idea of where I was from mile 10 to 12.

As for my expectations, yes, they were pretty high, because Disney encouraged me to have high expectations.

As for the Princess, I'm still thinking about it.

Amy first of all congrats on your run! I am sorry you were disappointed with the race.

Not that I am an expert, but seems from what I read lots of people unhappy with the logistics with the W&D. I read a few people who said the Princess was much better organizationally. Almost every review I found complained about the crowds at the afterparty. That is a shame, I hope Disney will learn as their races are not cheap.

So exciting about your run with JEff Galloway, thanks for the review....looks really cool.

Hoping your next 1/2 experience will be better and that you continue to train for the Princess as you are a very supportive person here. Great job and happy running.

I have not run the princess but am 100% sure that your experience will be better. I have run 19 Disney events and have written race reports in some form or fashion for all 19. Only the 19th, the W&D was a totally negative report. I found little to be satisfied with. I was talking with our intern yesterday and he mentioned it sounded like a bad design. I thought for a second and answered back bad execution, the design was mostly good.

With regard to losing 28 seconds - this course was not a course that you would expect a better time on. Way too many corners so by design you are actually running a longer race since you are not hitting the tangents.

I am in your camp on the missing clock. In the grand scheme of things it is not a big deal, unless it is the one in your bite me zone. For me it was the length between aid stations coming into DHS. That gap was longer due to the course needs. I was ready for the aid station a good third mile earlier.

Coming Up
Ten for Texas - This weekend
RnR SanAntonio - Nov 14
LaPorte By the Bay Half - December 5
Goofy #6- Jan

roomthreeseventeen, I'm with you on feeling mixed about the Princess after Wine and Dine. I keep telling myself that everyone says the other races are so much better organized. I haven't signed up yet, but have a room booked and have started looking at flights.

I'm not used to this kind of a letdown after a race. Usually, I finish and I'm SUPER excited for my next race. Maybe once I hang the (really really awesome) medal on the wall, that will help.

Hello,

For those wanting a "WISH racing team" Headsweats brand Visor and/or Hat by the January Marathon Weekend, please hurry and place your order over on the thread. I need to get the minimums before the end of the month so the order can be placed and I can get them mailed out to people.

Find the link below in my signature for the Hat/Visor order (not the special order Visor)

Thanks!!

For those of you who did the Wine & Dine this weekend and are now in doubt about doing the Princess, I can tell you that my experience with the Princess is infinitely better than my experience with the W&D. Even the inaugural Princess was handled more smoothly.

First, the runners are primarily women and there is much more comraderie on the course.

Second, it is a morning race so you show up much more rested.

Third, the course itself is much easier to navigate. Even the first Princess that had us only use the southbound side of World Drive seemed less crowded than any point on the W&D course.

Please don't let your experience this weekend stop you from doing this race!

I was browsing the boards last night and came upon this thread. The more I think about it, the more I want to do this. And here's how selfish I am: I want to make a trip by myself. Dh and I are currently discussing (read: arguing because he won't just do what I want:lmao:) dates for our next trip. And the Princess would fall right into some dates that we're considering. But I want to go on my own. I want to take a trip, just me, stay in a hotel room, just me, and tour the parks, just me. No kids to feed, no feeling guilty about wanting to go on a ride that makes dh sick, no getting angry at how long it takes him to get ready in the morning (at his rate, HE's the one that should be running a "princess race":rotfl:)...just be selfish for once and do something for me.

But...then come the financials. But I really, really, really want to do this! (Cue temper tantrum here.:rolleyes1) I've never run a race before. But I know that even walking it, I can do this. If I start training now, I'll definitely be in better shape for the race. Hmm, I wonder if my friends would "sponsor" me, aka pay for my trip? I have 377 Facebook friends. Maybe they should all be kicking in $5 to let me have fun!:lmao::lmao::lmao:

Well... you could always sign up with Team in Training and do Princess with them. It's a good chunk of fundraising, but everyone I know who has done a race with TNT can't say enough good things about the support and camaraderie.
