That is actually going to be the hardest thing for me to do! I've only been doing this for 3 months and I'm so afraid that if I take this "break" (no pun intended...), I won't start back. I've lost 40 pounds in 3 months since starting to run, and I just don't want to lose my momentum...

But the reasonable adult inside my head tells me that rest is the fastest and safest way to get back... I hate being an adult... ;)

So sorry about your injury. I hope it heals quickly and you are able to stay motivated.

I'm very impressed that you lost 40 lbs in 3 months. How did you do it? I started running in June and have only lost 8 lbs - I have a lot more to go! The whole reason I started running was to lose weight. I have started lifting weights because I heard that will help, but it's not coming off as quickly as I hoped. What's your advice?

No real advice-- except that I started with the C25K plan and the eating just kind of fell into place. All that effort was definitely an appetite supressent! :lmao: But I also cut out fried foods and junk food. My sweets were 100 cal packets of cookies, but again, very limited. I took 2 days off a week from all exercise, but my other non-running days I did the elliptical for about 45 minutes at a fat burning heart rate. I also log every bite that goes into my mouth and all my exercise. It helps keep me honest.

Nothing to sensational, but it has worked for me. Hope this helps, and good luck!

MamaCrush - thanks for the advice. Unfortunately running makes me very hungry so I eat whatever I can get my hands on. I know I need to get that under control.

Coach - I was just looking at Jeff Galloway's training program for the princess half and for the long runs he suggest going 3 miles every other week and adding miles every other week. Do you recommend this? It seems like that is cuttting back quite a bit when you get into the higher mileage. M4M doesn't go under 5 miles after week 8, but it is a shorter training time. Also, Jeff only recommends 30 minutes of running on the short runs. Is that enough? Thanks!

Merci

I am running 10 tomorrow. I was trying to get the organizer to change the date to Sunday so it would be the 10 for Texas on 10/10/10.

I think one of the better things about the W&D was that it forced a mile or longer walk post race getting rid of much of the soreness; for me.

what time does this race start tomorrow? I think i might need to re-route myself on the way to where i run on saturday mornings because of road closures for this race.

What she thought was bursitis turns out to be a stress fracture according to the MRI I had yesterday.

I am so disappointed since I think this may knock me out of the 2011 Princess!

Don't count out the Princess 1/2 yet. You've got some good recovery time right now (I'm not sure how severe your stress fracture is, of course). Anyway, I've been down this road...I am currently rehabbing from a pelvic stress fracture (I got it mid-July). I was supposed to be running the Chicago Marathon this Sunday (10-10-10), but not now. The Princess 1/2 is my substitute race. It has been 2 1/2 months since, and I have worked up to run/walking 4-5 miles (3 times a week)again. I cross train the other days (lots of core work-it helps with stamina and speed, elliptical, recumbent bike, swimming, and definitely weights). I had a stress fracture in my heel last year (again from running) and went thru this whole recovery process then as well. It's hard, but use this board for some support and you will definitely come thru. Plus, you could end up a more fit and powerful woman with all the cross training!!!!

Also, make sure you add LOTS of Vitamin D and Calcium to your diet. I had a bone-density test done, and I was lacking (the cause of my injuries). I now take oodles of vitamins daily.

Um, I see in your signature that you got into the coveted ARMY 10 MILER! You are lucky! Have fun...

Was it that coveted? I had no idea :cool1:

I ran it last year and when race sign-ups appear, I just put a calendar reminder to sign up right away. I'm excited about it, though my training has been lackluster at best.

My DD-19 and I will be doing the Princess Half Marathon! She talked me right into it! "She must be crazy,:rotfl:" I thought!! "I don't run!" I do now!! Sure hope and pray I get through this!! :confused3

I just ran my last run until my half on Saturday. I am not as nervous as I was a week ago. I am anxious to do it, and I am anxious to get it behind me. This is something I NEVER thought I'd be doing.

The race is at 0800, and I hope to be out of there by 1130 because it's 2 hours back home and my nephew is getting married at 3pm. I know I am cutting it close, but it's doable and I didn't want to miss this opportunity. So....what that means is that I won't be able to post about my run until Sunday.

Please refresh my memory on two topics:

1) Are you a fellow Sparker (SparkPeople.com)?

2) What is your HM this weekend?

You'll have an awesome time, running with your daughter! My mom will be with me for the weekend as well (she is my cheering squad).

Registration is 50% full as of today!!!! I need to find some money in the couch.

Hey everyone! I am thinking about signing up for the princess half, but will only be able to afford it if I stayed at Shades of Green. I saw that only host hotels would be providing race transportation. Would it be possible to utilize the transportation fromthe Polynesian or do you have to show proof that you are staying at that resort?
Thanks for any help! I hope I will be able to join you all in February!

Alright, still not sure if I can do the race so I haven't registered yet. But don't want to get closed out of an affordable resort either. So, I made resort ressies and AS Movies - don't usually do value, but hey - a girl's gotta' do what a girl's gotta do. Anyway, I figure I can cancel my ressie if I can't register due to DD's competition schedule. And if I can, I will register the very next day I find out! I really want to give this race a try! Did the WDW Half in 03 and 10. Did the Full in 05. Did the W&D. But there seems to be something about this Princess race that seems just a little more fun! Is it as good as the January races - or even better? Tell me why or why not . . . I'm already assuming it's gotta' be better than the 1st W&D!

Omg - I guess I need to really sign up :) I have my hotel - thank goodness but I have not signed up yet. I just did the Diva Half in Long Island with a stress fracture in my left shin :) I did it was not my best time but I did it and at the end of the day that's all that matters :)

Sorry to hear about the stress fracture. What were the symptoms? My left shin is my literal pain in the you-know-where, as well. The compression sleeves and some rest have helped, but it still twinges sometimes.

Yup that is how it started and I waited too long to get new shoes and I really did it to myself - if I would have bought new sneakers sooner and rested my shins I would not have this.

Either way I still did the Diva Half although uncomfortable, I took off 3 weeks before the half and never got to more than 6 miles for a LR - all things considered I am walking and just sore.

No running for 3 more weeks to insure it heals :)

PM me if you want :)

Historically, all you have to do is walk to the Poly and then board the bus. Disney contracts bussing to a third party for events like this and they are more concerned about getting you from the Poly than where you are staying.

One reason I ask lots of questions and then usually conclude with if it is not better real soon see a doc is the SF issue. I try to not mention SF out right because I think it is an over 'diagnosed' condition on running forums. But as miles start to pile on SF becomes a more likely issue. Get to a doc to have it diagnosed. There are old school methods to determine if you have a SF but you really need to have a doctor look at the issue if it drags on and does not get better.

Ahh...Everytime I get on here to read the newest messages I read about someone else who is injured. It put the silliest vision in my head of a bunch of injured/leg casts/crutches people, wearing princess costumes, all "hobbling" across the finish line with Epcot in the background.:lmao: It made me giggle.
We runners are crazy fools to partake in a sport that causes so much pain to our bodies....BUT...I love it so!!!:lovestruc:lovestruc I can't wait 'til Feb!

But the thoing of it is, running does NOT have to cause pain and it shouldn't. If you take things nice and slow and progress as your body tells you...injuries will ot happen. I have has minimal injuries and minimal discomfort. Its because I read my body's cues and act accordingly. I just finished my first HM so it can be done!!

I just officially signed up!!! SO EXCITED. Already have a room, ordered my window tiara 13.1 sticker for the minivan, now I just need to train. Coming off of C25k so timing is perfect. :cool1::banana:

Been working through some plantar faciitis issues speaking of injuries, but the past week it was so much better. That is what was keeping me from signing up til now, but feeling really good about things......I got a massage ball for my foot at the running store that is a miracle worker! Also am icing and stretching as prescribed by my doc, just glad it has gotten better!

Anyhoo, thanks for listening. Happy Running!

For a lot of runners, it is a rite of passage. For me, it is not acceptable so when I got my first injury - straining my IT band at the DL half, I did everything I could to let it get better before I started training again. These races are pretty fun and the medals are awesome, but I learned a lot from Jeff Galloway - he said he hasn't had an injury in 30 years and gave me advice about my IT band so I took it, it worked and no more injuries for me. I love those medals, but I love my mobility more. Running doesn't have to equal injuries.
