Completed my frist 5 miles this wonderful morning :yay: Pace was at around 12:55 a mile. During my mid week runs next week I am hoping to push somewhat harder to improve my weekend endurance pacing.

Out of curosity, I usually drink choclate milk after my runs, but ran out of it...Do you think a glass of milk along with a pudding cup is equivalent? Must say I love me some pudding cups (Yum Yum!)

awesome!!! how did it feel? i was riding high all day yesterday after i completed my first ever 5 miles!

i would venture to guess that it's probably ok. i don't think the chocolate milk is an exact science, especially for the type of athletes we are (totally awesome, but not professionals!), but i think the important thing is that both carbs and proteins are getting into your body! i would think that your combo would do the trick!!
i love pudding cups but my problem is that i'll sit and eat 3 instead of just one!:rolleyes1

Thanks...It did feel really good when I finished. I just thought to myself, WOW almost half way there...the goal of 13.1 does feel very poissible now princess: Next Sat is my first race of a 5k and cannot wait to see what to except from a race day!

oh great! we're almost on the same schedule! i signed up for a 5k in central park on sept. 12th. i got my bib and t-shirt in in the mail on friday :)

i also like the way you think...i started to get a little nervous after my run. i was thinking, "great! 5 miles...oh wait, i'm still not even halfway there. ugh." but you're right. we SO can do this! :)

just got back from another run! i had cereal for breakfast and headed out about 20 min later. i don't know if it was because i was still tired from yesterday's kick-butt run or because i just am not used to eating before running but i felt ALOT more tired today than yesterday. i didn't even attempt to do the 5 miles i did yesterday. but, i managed to do 4.2 miles in 45 minutes!

and i just downed some chocolate milk. yum!

Nice Work! It could be either or, but I tend to do better on an empty stomach. This is why early mornings work in my favor.

Did a little research and ...

Possibly.

The ratio of Carb to protein is not out of reason ( between 4 and 5:1) but I wonder about the other stuff in a pudding cup. The ConAgra and Jello pudding cups contain Partially Hydrogenated Soybean Oil or a trans fat. Transfats are used in foods to keep them soft. They have a long life once in the body and are true blood sludges.

A better choice may have been a glass of vanilla milk with 2-3 teaspoons of sugar. OR a home made smoothie with a little OJ, yogart and fruit.

Not being critical of the choice but of the manufacturers and their insistance on using 'bad' ingredients.

Hmmm very interesting Coach. Thanks for sharing...maybe I will give the smootie a whirl when out of my chocolate milk next time.

I would point at the residual fatigue in the muscle. Generally if a breakfast is an issue is presents intself in a way not described as tired.... more like a GI issue or cramp

Me too. I can usually get away with a fruit bar, but not much else.

I did 5 last night myself, too. Along the Hudson River, which was beautiful, but a little strange, with all the traffic going the other way on the West Side Highway. Big bonus points for the bathroom stops, though :-)

Glad to hear I am not alone on this one....it has been challenge for sure, eating/not eating, when, what???? So far I far enjoy AM runs on empty stomach (6Mi this AM), BUT I have to be sure I eat "good"carbs night before so I have reserve. I drink about 16oz H2O 45"prior to run and take water with me in new Awesome hand held bottle thingy and sip throughout. I am good at the recovery treat, but the before and during I havent figured out yet.....

MeredithRx - I wanted to let you know that there's an article in the September Vogue about MS and "the power of fitness"

I completed Week 6 of C25K last night. I'm very excited. I would never have believed I could run for 25 min. without stopping :cool1:

I just joined the thread and read back but couldn't find it... Is someone running the half-marathon to support MS?

Is15, A Woman is Running the Princess who HAS MS

I just did a 5K race. 40.49 was my time. I feel good, but it was a little hard.
I am just sad, thinking, how on earth am I going to add 10 miles to that?

That's awesome. MS is a big part of my life (mom, aunt, sister all have it). My mom, I know, would join me if she could! She is coming to Disney with me but going to stay in the room until after the race so I can go back and get her.
