Interesting! I don't know the last time I flipped through a Vogue. I might have to check it out next time I'm at the store.

As for me, I finished my 11 miles this morning! I'm so proud! I had decided ahead of time that I was going to walk it very slowly in order to make sure I did the distance, but when all was said and done, I averaged 15:45ish a mile. So, not only did I do my personal farthest distance ever, I managed to make it under sweeper time! I was excited. And, it's only 2 miles away from HM distance. Honestly, I think that if I hadn't been set to stop at 11 miles (and DH was leaving, so I had baby duty) I really think I could have finished the 13.

OMG! You are doin it!! You RAWK!

I ran my first 5k today! It was my first race ever, and I was not nearly as nervous as I thought I'd be. There were about 100 people participating and I was well behind the pack of runners, but I was ahead of the walkers, and I somehow managed to get 3rd place in my age division! :woohoo: Pretty amazing since I was grouped in with the 18 year olds lol.

I won't get my official time until Tuesday, but I'm somewhere around 33 minutes (I forgot to stop my time when I finished :sad2:). The course was a go halfway and turn around type course and the entire first half was uphill, so I kept saying, "Just get to the turn-around and then coast to the finish" and it worked! I even had enough gas in the tank to pass a couple people in the last k and a half!

I'm curious as to how I'll do on my 10k next week because in my training I run/walk 3:2, but I ran the entire 5k. I know I won't be able to run the entire 10k, so I'm hoping to do a 4:1 interval. It will be interesting...

I completed Week 6 of C25K last night. I'm very excited. I would never have believed I could run for 25 min. without stopping :cool1:

I too just finished Week 6 and I feel like it kicked my hiney!! But looking at it with your perspective, I can see a brighter side! I was disappointed because I wasn't able to run the full 2.25 miles without about a 4 min walk break after Mile 2. (I'm running for the mileage as opposed to the time the plan states.) But even so, it took me approx. 30 mins to run those 2 miles, so I should be proud of the fact that I ran continuously for 30 minutes, right??!!! And, even with the walk break, I finished with an average pace of 15:15. It seems like progress is being made even if it doesn't always feel like it.

I do have a question though for Coach and others who can help. Should I move on to Week 7 where I'll be running a continuous 2.5 miles, or should I repeat Week 6 and hopefully be able to run a continuous 2.25 by the end of next week? My 5K is the Mickey's Halloween Fun Run on Oct. 2nd. Thoughts?? :confused3

Running for 30 minutes continuously is wonderful.

Repeating a week is never a bad idea for training with C25k. Even if you don't finish the program before the race, you're going to get a boost of race cay magic and adrenaline that morning. You'll be fine for the race.

Congrats to everyone who raced today. Great times.

First congrats on getting in 2 miles. Remember week 1? It was probably as tough as this week.

I guess my question is why not take a walk break? I am a big fan of a run walk method for new runners anyway. If you are a Garmin user just set the Garmin to lap at quater mile intervals and take a 30 second walk at each lap. If a watch wearer, then set the watch for either 4 or 5 minutes and take a 1 minute walk every time it beeps You may feel like you are regressing but you are doing the same run//walk type intervals I would suggest to a 15 minute miler for the half. I would then stick with the plan to get to the 5k.

Regardless, even if you want to run the 5k continuously, I would continue on with the schedule with the following modifications. I would make the two mid week runs only 20 minutes and not worry about miles this week.

I also work to develop plans with some periodization (easily seen with a pull back week at least once a month). I see that the C25K does not include this.. or at least the version I am looking at. When you look to start a training plan for the half try to find one that suits your needs and has a shorter long run every 3-4 weeks.

You are doing great! Just keep pushing forward and you will be crossing the finish line on Topiary Lane in no time!

The quality of the video is a little poor but the message is strong

Next time you are on the road and your knee feels like it may want to hurt or you are not wanting to go further and just want to bag the workout.... Or if you had a really bad workout and just feel like quitting while down.....

Just think of Nick

Everyone deserves a huge pat on the back, Job well done! for all their hard work. Keep doing what you all have been doing, and are all doing sooooo great :)

That video was very inspiring. I had a similar inspiration this past winter when I was struggling through C25K and couldn't run for five minutes straight. There's a young man who's a paraplegic and plays basketball at the gym where I work out. The indoor track looks out over the gym floor and I watched this kid take shot after shot the whole time. He didn't make every shot- I'd say he didn't make half- but he kept trying and never stopped. His mom was with him and retrieved every stray ball for him to do it again. It was such a profound lesson in what we can do if we have the will to do it and the support to back us up. And it was like a light switched on in my head. I may have been obese and have two bad knees, but if I stopped thinking so much about what I couldn't do, maybe I'd find out what I could do. And that's the night when I first ran five minutes without stopping.

Yesterday, I did 4.5 miles and felt pretty good about that afterward, but it had to be my worst run in months. Not only was it approaching the hottest temp of the day (84F), I ended up running at high noon, so there was no shade. It was also the first time I ran on the sidewalk instead of a track or an asphalt path. The good- I finished! Of course, since I ran from my house and didn't drive to a park, I really couldn't quit early. I also accidentally switched from a 2:1 pace to a 1:2 pace because a longer walk break got my cues mixed up. That was probably a very good thing. I know Galloway's advice is to slow down 30 secs. for every 5 degrees over 60F. I think I inadvertently came close to that (although that seems a little cool for a starting off point). My pace overall was 14:20mi, which is a minute and a half slower than I've been running lately, but given the conditions, I'm okay with that. The bad- I really need to make sure that I run at a more appropriate time of day. That was stupid of me. Also bad, I had the worst problem with swelling in my hands that I've had in months. My fingers felt so swollen, I felt like they were going to explode. Ugh!

But the important thing was that I left my house and traveled 4.5 miles on foot before I returned.

Today I finished week 5 of C25k and was able to run the entire 20minutes. I wish I could say I felt strong the whole way, but I so wanted to walk with 3 minutes to go but forged on and did the whole run. Slower than before, but I have a hilly neighborhood. Just glad I did it...I do miss the walk breaks though, thankfully this week I get 2 more days with running and then walking.

I am just happy I am getting up 3 times a week to get my runs in. When I finish this, will start training for the princess via the Galloway method. Yay me.

I am coming off of plantar faciitis and hoping my foot stay where I can run.

Looks like lots of peeps are having great weeks also! Way to go everyone.
