Today I finished week 5 of C25k and was able to run the entire 20minutes. I wish I could say I felt strong the whole way, but I so wanted to walk with 3 minutes to go but forged on and did the whole run. Slower than before, but I have a hilly neighborhood. Just glad I did it...I do miss the walk breaks though, thankfully this week I get 2 more days with running and then walking.

I am just happy I am getting up 3 times a week to get my runs in. When I finish this, will start training for the princess via the Galloway method. Yay me.

I am coming off of plantar faciitis and hoping my foot stay where I can run.

Looks like lots of peeps are having great weeks also! Way to go everyone.

We are following the same plan. I just finished W5D2 and made it through okay. I have to say that I am terrified of the 20 minute run that is coming up for me on Tues. Then again the 8 minute runs terrified me when I was doing the 5.

Great job and good luck with your training!

I must say there are some amazing people on this board, making wonderful accomplishments. As I read the boards on a regualr basis, I am blown away by everyones wonderful efforts. Everyone deserves a huge pat on the back, Job well done! for all their hard work. Keep doing what you all have been doing, and are all doing sooooo great :)

Yes there are some AMAZING people on the thread.

Well Said!! Thank You!

First congrats on getting in 2 miles. Remember week 1? It was probably as tough as this week.

I guess my question is why not take a walk break? I am a big fan of a run walk method for new runners anyway. If you are a Garmin user just set the Garmin to lap at quater mile intervals and take a 30 second walk at each lap. If a watch wearer, then set the watch for either 4 or 5 minutes and take a 1 minute walk every time it beeps You may feel like you are regressing but you are doing the same run//walk type intervals I would suggest to a 15 minute miler for the half. I would then stick with the plan to get to the 5k.

Regardless, even if you want to run the 5k continuously, I would continue on with the schedule with the following modifications. I would make the two mid week runs only 20 minutes and not worry about miles this week.

I also work to develop plans with some periodization (easily seen with a pull back week at least once a month). I see that the C25K does not include this.. or at least the version I am looking at. When you look to start a training plan for the half try to find one that suits your needs and has a shorter long run every 3-4 weeks.

You are doing great! Just keep pushing forward and you will be crossing the finish line on Topiary Lane in no time!

Thanks! But if it's all the same to you, I would rather NOT remember Week 1! ;)

I will have about two weeks after I finish the C25K program before the 5K. So I was thinking I would stick with the plan as stated to its end, then spend the following two weeks working with a 3 run/1 walk interval that I could tinker with for use during the race. My goal at the race is A) FINISH the thing, and B) ENJOY the experience. As it is right now, I'm feeling good until about the last .3 miles and then I'm not enjoying anything... I think the run/walk interval plan during the 5K will make it easier for me to enjoy my surroundings. As for 1/2 training plans, I'm considering the M4M run/walk program. I'll probably also check out Galloway before I decide.

Now-- here's what actually happened during my session today. My computer was all wonky so I wasn't able to check in here for comments/advice first, so I decided to trust the program and go for W7D1, running continuously for 2.5 miles or 25 minutes. I had a light meal of carbs and protein, then about an hour later headed for the gym. After my warmup, I set the TM for 15 min pace. The next thing I knew, it was 2 miles! I continued to run up to 2.3 miles (my longest continuous run ever!). I was feeling a bit nauseous so I lowered the pace a bit and walked the remaining .2 miles. I did the whole workout in 37:48. Avg Pace: 15:08 I was so pumped!!! :woohoo: :cloud9:

My DH is very supportive and has helped me stick with this in many ways and will be waiting with open arms at the finish line-- but a cheerleader he's not. He's more understated than that. So I couldn't wait to share with my princess peeps~!!!! princess:

BTW: I have a friend who has loaned me her Garmin 305 since she's out with an injury, but I haven't used it yet. I'm saving it for my half training. And I'm hoping I'll be able to figure out how to use the darn thing by then! ;)

Sounds like today was better.

I hate to bring up really bad memtories but some day you will think back to the week and have a feeling of pride about where you are.

:goodvibes This reminds me--

When I was checking out at the grocery store today, the very nice young man at the register picked up the G Prime I was buying (on sale). He asked if I liked it. I explained I was getting ready to run a 5K and then plan to train for a half marathon, so I wanted to try it. (Now remember, I'm 50 yrs old and considerably pooh-sized...) He looked at me with such an awe-inspired look, and said, "Good for you. People half your age can't even run a mile." :rotfl2:

You go Mamacrush!!!!!:cool1:

I ran my first 5k today! It was my first race ever, and I was not nearly as nervous as I thought I'd be. There were about 100 people participating and I was well behind the pack of runners, but I was ahead of the walkers, and I somehow managed to get 3rd place in my age division! :woohoo: Pretty amazing since I was grouped in with the 18 year olds lol.

Congrats! That 1st 5K is such an awesome experience.

After Week 12 of 16 weeks of my HM training, I ran a 5k this morning and I smoked that thing. You can read about it here WITH PICS!! I am so excited and may I say pretty darned impressed with my time improvement!

That blog was so inspirational-- to see your improvement and also to see what your DIL has accomplished. Thanks for sharing.

Absolutely!!!

But the important thing was that I left my house and traveled 4.5 miles on foot before I returned.

This is what really stood out for me-- that you finished it! I had the exact same experience this weekend.

Good for you for running that far! I got a Garmin for my birthday and used it the first time today. It's really realy cool. It took some playing around with it to figure it out. And I still don't have it completely figured out but I really like it.

I am also dealing with intermittent plantar fascitis ( got it when I was pregnant). I am having to stretch in the morning and evenings and will sometimes sit with an ice pack on my foot in the evenings.

After a week, I went back out and did 4.5 miles. It was really hard-- I hadn't done anything in a week and my diet was not that great either. Ironically, I ate really well and majorly limited my alcohol intake when I was in Napa. And then I got home, DH had to go out of town and work stressed me out. So I ate. And I could tell the difference when I ran bc my pace was about a minute slower, and I ended up only walking the last 1.5 miles. But I figure it's good I got back into it and it can only get better.

I used my garmin for the first time today and love it. I figure it will be a really neat way to monitor my progress as I go along this journey.

Way to go! Keep up the good work.

Thanks!

I just did a 5K race. 40.49 was my time. I feel good, but it was a little hard.
I am just sad, thinking, how on earth am I going to add 10 miles to that?

I feel amazed that I'll be able to add thaat 10 miles. But I KNOW that I can do it. Just stick with your training.

Interesting! I don't know the last time I flipped through a Vogue. I might have to check it out next time I'm at the store.

As for me, I finished my 11 miles this morning! I'm so proud! I had decided ahead of time that I was going to walk it very slowly in order to make sure I did the distance, but when all was said and done, I averaged 15:45ish a mile. So, not only did I do my personal farthest distance ever, I managed to make it under sweeper time! I was excited. And, it's only 2 miles away from HM distance. Honestly, I think that if I hadn't been set to stop at 11 miles (and DH was leaving, so I had baby duty) I really think I could have finished the 13.

I would be very excited as well. Way to go!

:woohoo: go you!! :woohoo: go you!! :woohoo:

we are going to kick so much boo-tay when we're down there.

That is so funny! :rotfl:

That is awesome :cheer2:

I started Week 7 of C25K today. I can't believe I can run for 25 min. without stopping!!

Getting ready to do my first 5k in a few weeks. I am a walker so I am not really looking for speed, just to be able to do it!

Yesterday morning I ran a 5k. I ran it in about 32:01 I think. (I know it was almost 32:00 even) This is not my fastest 5k but just running the race yesterday was big for me because I just finished antibiotics for whooping cough. I did promise myself that I would walk if my breathing became a problem and I only had to stop once for a walk break. So I'm pretty happy with that time considering I just came back from three weeks off and whooping cough.

This has me excited to really get back into my training and looking ahead to the Princess because I really believe I can shave time off both my 5k (and probably even my half marathon time) as I train.

Way to go Megan! That's awesome! It can be hard to get back into things after being sick, so great work!

I still haven't signed up for Princess, but I'm betting I will do so next week. I don't want to jinx myself, so I'm refusing to sign up until after I've finished the Disneyland half. I don't know why this is a jinx, but it just feels like it. I think I'm afraid I won't be able to finish the half, and then suddenly I'll have two more that I have to run (also signed up for Wine and Dine). That said, yesterday, I was talking to my Mom, and it sounds like she and my sister (who's 23 and living at home while going to grad school) might train and run/walk the race! Exciting!

THANK YOU! It is Monday morning and I STILL can't believe it! There is truth to the saying...TRUST THE PROCESS!

Totally agree. I never once thought in a race I'd be charging up a hill, but I totally did that last weekend. :)

I had two great runs on Thursday and Friday, and then a not so great run yesterday. 93 degrees is too hot. Ugh.

BUT, I did make the 100 mile marker for August. :rotfl2:

Leleluvsdis You won't be running alone. You will be running with 11,000 other "Princesses Sisters". Closer to the race others on this board will start talking about their pace and will hook up and run/walk together. There will be a meeting time and place the night before the race to meet others also.

I will be grateful for that too! DW will be coming with me but does not do endurance running....I may need to chat at beginning, you know that nervous chatter.....yeah!!

Excellant run Megan!:woohoo:

That would be awesome to have your Mom and sister run/walk the race!:) I wish I could get my daughter into running. She attempted it a few months back but didn't stick with it.

Coach-- I just read back over my post and think I need to apologize. Reading it now, it almost looks like I blew off your on-point advice and recommendations. My only excuse is that I was watching the Little League World Series with DH and DS10 at the time I was posting, and was definitely distracted by their exhuberant commentary on the game. :)

I will most definitely cut back by running for time for my next two runs. I was kind of hoping for a bit of a pull-back anyway! And since last week was one of my toughest in a while, it may be just what my body is looking for. (BTW-- do you think I should push the pace since these will be shorter in duration, or stick with the 15/mi I'm currently running?)

And you are so right-- I really need to remember how far I've come. Even though I may get impatient with myself, I still think it's amazing that I'm running 2.25 miles and not passing out. Thanks again for your unfailing support on these boards!
