I have to throw my 2 cents in here - maybe I have no right on account of not posting much but I am going to anyway.

This board is such a great place to come to to read, post, lurk - whatever floats your boat. For one person to say what is right or wrong for someone else I feel is out of line whether it is for the sake of "encouragement" or otherwise. We are all working hard and making progess with our training and positivity, encouragement and support is what all we come here for. I may be going out on a limb here in saying that overall we really don't know each other personally so when something is typed it may be taken out of context being that we don't know the nature in which it would be said in person. I also feel though that the "encouragement" that some are offering is (IN MY OPINION) like a backhanded compliment. I will agree that some of this stuff has made me second guess myself, made me think what is wrong with me that I can't run XXX (insert distance here) without feeling like a failure but at the end of the day the confidence that I have in myself is way more then what one person can ever take away from me with words or anything else.

I guess what I am saying here is can't we all just get along - think twice before you post something as the person who you are addressing may not understand where you are coming from as you don't understand where they are coming from.

Thanks for listening, reading - and I know that not everyone will agree but that is ok.

Thanks - I had posted something then this popped in. You say it better than me :)

ok, i know this is a family-friendly site and everything but i just have to say that i kicked today's run's A$$!!!! wooohooooo!! i decided to do the "long run" today since dh is working from home and i could leave the baby with him. i mapped out my 4 miler but KEPT ON GOING!

i ran 5.44 miles in 59 minutes. THE FARTHEST EVER!!

look, i know it's still not even halfway to the half marathon distance but considering on 6/14 i could barely run for one minute at a time i'm pretty freaking pumped!!!

woohoo!!

also, i got my bib today for the 5k i'm doing on sept. 12th. immediately after i opened the package i got butterflies! i'm so nervous!

That is awesome!!! Way to kick some hiney!!:thumbsup2

I just signed up for my first 10k scheduled for the first weekend in December...I wonder everyday what has gotten into me! :lmao:

Awesome!!! Which one are you doing? I still haven't signed up for anything-- I am still nervous.

I can vouch for this. After telling me how proud she is of me for months, my 74 year old, morbidly obese mother bought an exercise bike and has been riding it daily. A high school friend told me she wants to do the Princess Half in 2012 and asked if I would also be doing it that year. My niece is already fit and healthy, but running together has made her more committed to fitness and running, and if this keeps her from being part of the rising obesity statistics in the future, I will do everything I can to help her.

They say that if your friend becomes overweight, you have a 57% chance of also becoming overweight. I believe that the reverse can also be true. Fitness and healthiness are contagious!

That is so great. And reading about MeredithRx's story made me tear up a little.

Is anyone else excited that our race is just six months away? princess:

Excited is one word- so is nervous/freaked out. The more I look at a picture of that medal, the more I really really really want it

I'm not sure what being an East Coaster as opposed to living in a square state has to do with it. I get on the subway every day the same way you all get in your cars.

I haven't lived in New York for more than a couple of months so I can't relate the way you can about living there. But I was definitely more active there than living here in Texas. You still have to walk to the subway. And I found myself just walking more outside because if you only have to go a couple of blocks you won't take the subway. Here, I drive to go two miles to pick up my daughter from school.

PS - Thank you coach for your sage words of advice and encouragement. I truly appreciate it:worship:

I agree!!!!

:cheer2: Yay for you!! That is awesome. I hope to be able to go that fast at some point.

I went to the gym after a week to do some light cardio and weight. My knees and shins don't hurt which is good. And I bought some new sneakers so hopefully that will help.

I am going to try to do four miles tomorrow. I don't know what it is about this distance, but I have this huge mental block about doing it. I can go 3.5 without trouble, so 4 really isn't that big of deal. I just need to get over it.

thanks ladies!! love you big bunches!

i mean, i know dh is happy and everything for me but i feel like YOU ladies understand better!

oh and i had a lovely glass of chocolate milk after. i really could have finished a gallon of it! yum!!! i didn't have anything to eat before my run except for a cup of coffee. i need to figure out a better plan though. i'm not going to be able to run longer without eating anything. i just don't feel that good when i eat before i run. and perhaps eating before would help the fact that all i want to do ALL day after running is eat, eat, and eat!!

I signed up for the "Trafigura Home Run" 10k in downtown Houston benefitting the Houston Ronald McDonald House. There is also going to be a Family 1k walk that day in case there are others in your family that want to participate. They are allowing dogs on the 1k walk as well! Here's the link if you want to read more about it or sign up: http://www.active.com/running/houston-tx/houstons-ronald-mcdonald-house-trafigura-home-run-2010
I'm a little nervous too, but for some reason this week I've noticed a marked increase in my endurance and strength...especially in my cross training classes. Even my class mates and trainer have mentioned it to me. So I figure I better sign up now while I'm feeling good before I chicken out! As I wirte this though, and as the day wears on, I'm feeling those hill repeats we did in class last night out at Hermann Park in front of the Miller Outdoor Theatre...have you ever had the pleasure of that torture? :lmao:

I'm giving you the Awesome Award for today. That's really fast too! Just think....twice that and you'll be 2 miles from the finish and only 2 hours in! I consider that to be awesome. ;)

i didn't. in fact i need to figure out what to do about the whole hydration thing. i haven't been eating or drinking much before running and i need to change that.

it was absolutely beautiful out during the run - i live by the water so it's usually a little cooler than downtown!

It took me 51 years to realize that I am an *gasp* ATHLETE! Who would thunk???!!! :rotfl2::lmao::dance3:
Lol, I can totally relate. Sometimes my DH tells people that I am a runner. It sounds funny to be referred to as a "runner". But yes, this old lady is a runner.:)

ten weeks out. I think it possible. You thinkning a 46 minute 5k? Or slightly under? How are you feeling about you and your training?

You seem to be on a solid 15:30 pace in training and I would like to see you 5k results. Do me a favor. I know this is a big event but see what is feels like to add just a small tick to the speed in the last quarter to hald mile. Stay constant with you pace in the firsst of the race just juice it near the end. I want to see if we can set a good benchmark time for getting a read on the on the 15k

The great news is that you have a 2 minute buffer over the lantern rouge on last year's 15k. If you train well and hard you should not loose that much pace with the added distance.

So assuming you are feeling good about your training and you should have a better feel tomorrow afternoon, I say go for it. If you feel good sign up when you get back home from tomorrow's race. Post the receipt in a place of prominence and take off an a training plan.

Coach's input on your log... try spreading out the mid week stuff a little better. I understand it is a snap shot of one week and that life can get in the way but a M-W-F-S effort is better for the legs.

I do feel good about my training. Like I said I have good weeks and bad weeks. The walk's this week were because I could not run at lunch or with the baby stroller.
I will post after the 5K tomorrow.

Oh, and my receipt for the princess if on my bed room mirror. So I see it everyday when I wake up and then go to bed.princess:

The good news is that everyone has god weeks and bad weeks. :-) I've had runs where I had to call my boyfriend and have him bike over to where I was and walk with me home, because I was dehydrated, or tired, or whatever.

Jo- I responded to whether I think you can do it or not on the goddesses thread but I do want to say this. There's a chance you might finish last I suppose. But I think you shouldn't focus on that. Even if you finish last... you will have still finished a 15k! That's an accomplishment. I ran a small 5k when I first started running and I ran it in about 35 minutes give or take. (This was a few years ago now so I don't remember.) I didn't think it was bad for where I was at the time. Turns out only about like five people finished behind me. But my brother was there waiting for me at the finish line and I had finished... that was all that mattered. So don't get too caught up in worrying about finishing last!!

You can do anything you put your mind to!

Hi everyone! I booked my trip to Disney today (staying longer than the race). Very excited as I haven't been to Disney since I was 9! Thought I would join the thread.
