Well crudpuppies!

Now it's at the end of February Vacation week for New England -- it's going to be impossible to get good airfare or room rates, and the Parks will be full...I really don't get this, the goal must not be to draw people when occupancy is down -- and it's going to be very hard to convince dh and ds it's a good idea for me to go do Princess when we had planned to do family trip to Phoenix and the Grand Canyon...

Maria :upsidedow

Can someone please confirm that the race is actually on SUNDAY not Saturday? We will arrive on Sat and just want to be sure my daughter can still go to pick up her package.

Thanks.

For the past two years it has been on a Sunday, but this year I dont know things are up in the air --- you could call disney and ask them (hopefully they know that now)

swim-mom, if that works for you -- that's great! However, i can't see flying down from RI to WDW for 2/3 days... financially. That will be school vacation week here - and i would assume that flights would be high.. And, personally, i can realistically only afford to pay for round trip air for me and my dd for one trip / year --- so that needs to be worthwhile.. at least a week. ;)
IF i had more financial ability, i wouldn't think twice about flying down for a weekend! :)

I have an advantage - Spirit airlines is only 15 min from my house and with low airfare anything is possible. We are DVC members so my room is paid for, so my only expense is food and air --- and anything I get at the expo. The race I figure is paid for in advance so it does not hurt the pocketbook that hard -- which is why I want to reg asap to get it done and over with.

Teh website shoews Friday to Sunday for teh weekend. The biggest race has always been the last day of teh weekend. I would be shocked if the hal fwas not Sunday. However, even the website says everything on there is subject to change. :headache:

I'm bummed. I'm not sure DH will be able to make it and its supposed to be my big post cancer race. :( The other dates timed perfect with when he was supposed to do a military move from his short tour overseas in Italy. Ugh. Need to call DVC tomorrow to try to book the new weekend in February and cancel my March Treehouse ressie. BLAH!

I will be away on vacation when the registration opens, does anyone know how quickly it becomes full. Do I have like a week or two or possibly months?

They start posting how full it is when it hits 50%.

Hello,
As you can tell by my posts, I am new here. I hope you don't mind me jumping in here.

A couple of months ago, my sister said, "Let's run the Disney Princess Half Marathon". Ever since, I can't get it out of my head. I really want to do it now, but she has a bad knee and her orthopedic surgeon discourages it. She's working on talking to a sports medicine Dr. to see if it's feasible.

A little running history, I was overweight and decided it was time to eat right and exercise for me. I started my weight loss journey (rejoined Weight Watchers for the umteenth time) 3 years ago this month, I have lost 65 pounds and have been maintaining since. A month later, and started running the C25K program and have been running since. I have never run further then 10.5 and have only done that once. I will be 50 this year and I have a personal goal of running a half marathon. I am trying to convince myself that I.CAN.DO.IT!

I see the w/e has changed, and I know how that effects peoples plans. That's unfortunate. Having never been to Disney, I don't know what other effect changing the w/e has. Does it change it to a prime times down there. It there another big event going one then too?

Sorry for all the questions. I appreciate your insight on this.

Welcome Trudes! If you have done 10.5 already, you can defiantly do the half in February.

You can do it trudes. In the training plan I am using the farthest run is 10 miles and thats only a few wks before the race. So I know you can complete it!

The rates would have still been in peak season the w/e after too. Not sure why the change.

Welcome Trudes
My training run max is 10 miles about 2-3 weeks out. Maybe your sister can come and cheer you on.

Ugh, I can't believe they changed the date. I don't know if I can go now. 8(
I may have to check out what other races I could do.

Hi. I'm subbing! I want to keep up with you ladies even if a trip to WDW may not be feasible for me that particular weekend.

Back in April, I set a new 5K PR. :cool1: 5K is as far as I've ever trained or raced but I have just recently started training for a 10K. I haven't found a race to sign up for, but I'm just gonna keep training anyway and run whatever races I can find. My goal is to continue training thru the rest of this year to prepare for a local half in January - unless I CAN find a way justify a trip to WDW in February, in which case I'll just train a little longer and do that one instead. :woohoo:

Good luck, Princesses!

Hi I hope you all don't mind me jumping in now. I don't plan on running the Princess 1/2 until 2012, but you all will keep me motovated to keep moving. My hubby is a runner he has done countless full marathons including the WDW marathon in 2009. I on the other hand am just starting out. I am in week 1 of C25k and plan on working up to the 10K plan. any advice for a newbie runner?!?

You can do the 1/2, all you have to do is just start now. Why wait until 2012 when you can really do 2011 :)

Dont sell yourself short!:lovestruc:lovestruc:lovestruc:thumbsup2

I totally agree! I had never been a runner and I started training for an 8K in late January and ran it in March. Then I trained for a 10K and am running it on Saturday (ah!!). I'm planning on doing the Princess in March and wish it was sooner!! I could totally do it by September I think ;)

You definitely have enough time to prepare for 2011 if you're doing C25K now. :goodvibes

Wanted to see if I can join you ladies? I just started running again after a 10 year hiatus. I had a pretty serious medical problem back in 2001, and then started having babies in 2003. My youngest is 18m, and I feel like getting back in shape.
I'm walking/running about 4-5 miles 5 days a week. Three months ago, I couldn't run down the block, so I'm excited to train for a half marathon. Now I just need to convince dh that we need to go to WDW in Feb after our trip in Jan. I'm sure if I set this as a goal, he'll be on board.
Looking forward to joining this thread and learning some tips from everyone.
Anyone have any good websites someone could recommend for training tips?
