We are in the process of discussing what we, the girls in the office, are going to do as far as our gift exchange. We used to draw names, but too many people didn't want the name they got. Then we decided to do an ornament exchange, doing it dirty santa, and that was fun, but everyone is tired of that. Last year we did candles...not alot of imagination involved.
Now then this year we were tossing around ideas....

1)Calendars
2)Socks/Gloves/Scarves
3)Alcohol - (my idea, but not everyone drinks)
4)Dollar store-nothing can cost over $1.00...be creative
5)Earrings
6)Frames
7)White Elephant-something from home

No one could decide so someone came up with the idea of NOTHING OVER $5.00. Everyone agreed that you would have to be creative with this one. You could find something for $10.00 on sale for 1/2 price, you could have a coupon for buy one get one free....anything goes, as long as it doesn't cost over $5.00-not including tax.

Feel free to throw some $5.00 ideas my way...I'm drawing a blank.
What does your office/group do?

My office does a Secret Santa thing, and also usually has a little party at someone's house. I only work two days a week, and I dislike doing stuff like that anyway. So I have been telling them all year NOT to put my name in the hat this year. I'll go to the nice dinner party at Del Frisco's that our employers have for us, but that's it.

I'm not a Scrooge. I just don't like trying to be buddy-buddy with each and every coworker, especially since the rest of the year there is so much pettiness and bickering amongst them. Last year I gave one of them a nice Santuko knife as a Secret Santa gift, and she immediately went to one of our bosses and accused her Santa (me) of trying to send her a secret nasty message .

ETA: Go to Ross or TJ Maxx and look through their kitchen stuff. That's where I got the Santuko knife last year. You could probably find some neat kitchen thing as your gift.

Two of my favorite gifts from an office exchange are a decorative Christmas pillow, and some decorative Christmas kitchen towels.

I got them when I was young and didn't have much $$ to spend on decorations. I still use both of those gifts, and I still remember who gave them to me.
