I've been thinking about it, and when it comes to being a singing star, is it really ALL about the singing? I don't think so. Isn't personality and an ability to connect with the fans a very important thing? Of course it is. So, really, even if John Stevens and JPL aren't the greatest singers on Earth, maybe it's their ability to connect with some people that's getting them through. I think maybe we need to start looking at that a little closer.
I mean, think Britney Spears. She's pretty, she's a good dancer and she knows how to command an audience - but IS she REALLY a good singer? Her voice is so doctored by computers that I'm not sure we'll ever really know what her voice is like. I've seen old clips of her singing at state fairs and such, and she isn't anything special without the technology helping her voice. I don't think in today's world, that having an amazing voice always counts for much. Sad, but true. It's all in the connection with the fans. SOMETHING is working for our friends JS and JPL, and as Simon said "people have the right to vote for who they like" - and that's exactly what's happening.
