Offical 2003 Stanley Cup Finals thread (Finals start on Pg. 17)

I was just being pragmatic. I would have been foolish to call a sweep after what the Ducks did to Detroit Dallas and Minnesota

What happened in the second period to put two NHL goaltenders to sleep? First, Giggy makes like a statue and then Brodeur muffed a routine clear in shot.

At least the overtime goal was a thing of beauty. Except for those two wierd instances, Game Three was a jem. I'm expecting more of the same tonight. I think the Ducks can tie it up. The playoffs have been too good to end in a 5 game finals, folks!!

On a side note, my Canadiens made some news today. They hired Bob Gainey, he who owns 5 Stanley Cup rings from his playing days with the Habs, as GM with Andre Savard stepping aside to be Asst. GM and Head of Player Personnel (that's Head Scout to most people). I am a very happy person today!! :teeth:

So, will there be any "garbage goals" tonight????? ;)

I am just SO undecided about who to root for in this series..........
my beloved BC Eagle Brian Gionta and his Devils.......or my Disney Ducks........ hhhhhhmmmmmmmm.......
such a difficult decision......I'm just enjoying the hockey :teeth:

I'll take a small bite since I really have no stake in this one (even though the Ducks are from Anaheim)

Jeff,

They just interviewed that couple. I bet they are hoping for a freebie from Disney or something. Hey, all power to them!!

It's nice to see an old guy get a break in life. I'm still waiting for mine...sigh! Nice shot, Stumpy!

The Ducks dominated Game 4 and Brodeur was the only reason why NJ even got to OT. Giggy played a solid game. This was one of the most thrilling 1-0 games I've ever seen. Game 5 should be another classic.

As soon as I get cocky the Ducks bring me back for a helping of crow. I will make no more predictions until the end, That way I won't have to eat anymore crow. It doesn't agree with me.

Just when you thought it couldn't get any better........the offenses just explode!

That was one entertaining game last night right from the start. I must say that this entire series has turned into a classic. It appears that the coaches gave the goalposts and crossbars a night off yesterday.

Well, it's back to the pond. Can the Ducks even it up again or will the Devils continue to roll? I think we need a "Devils will win" prediction from Supamaki to insure a game 7 back in NJ ;) ;)

How about that skate slice on Maddens face last night. It took about 25 stitches and he only missed 3 shifts:eek: That is one tough dude!

GAME ON!!!

Yep, it was the shoot-out game. There's one in every long series. The players just decide to rebel and let fly. You saw both coaches shaking their heads last night.

What a game, the Devils never let the early or late 1st period goals faze them. The Devils had the lead in the Third and thoughly dominated the Ducks. I guess they just like the home cooking, eh? For a team without a fan base, the fans certainly make the Devils play better.

I don't expect to see more than three goals in the next game. In fact, that's my prediction. The final score of game six will be 2 to 1. If won in regulation, the Devils take home the Cup, if it goes into OT, the Ducks win and force a Game 7.

Who would have thought we'd get an old fashioned, hard nosed, explosive series from these two teams. Who says hockey isn't exciting to watch?

Game On! :teeth:

That game certainly was thrilling. I watched it at work last night. And you can imagine what a bar on the Jersey Shore was like. Now all we need to do is get the Nets in line, but that's a whole different post.

GO DEVILS!

Are you a fence jumper?

Oh, no! But it is more fun to watch a game if you are behind one of the teams. I'm a Canadiens fan true & true. Besides, the Ducks are owned by Disney and is my DW's favorite team. ;)

But if there is one thing I love to watch, it's a good goaltender. And this series features two excellent goalies. One that's a future Hall of Famer and one who could turn in to one.

You have to admit, all those crazy bounces last night more than made up for Marty's little mistake in Game 3. Eh? Poor SJG, he had his own players scoring on him! Two other goals reminded me of playing pinball the way the puck bounced right onto Devil's sticks and skates. Geez! Maybe Barry's psitic (sp?) knew what she was doing with her perdictions...scary! :p

No way, I'm keeping my mouth shut. But I will say this. I wore the same clothes (My Elias jersey with NJ Devils T-Shirt under it) and went to the same bar that I watched the Devils dismantle Boston and Tampa in, and I'm doing the same for tomorrow.

What a hit by Stevens and what a goal by Kariya!! Now, that's hockey!! :teeth:

My DW keeps reminding me June 9th is Donald Duck's Birthday. Donald, who was the original Mighty Duck in the short "The Hockey Champ" in 1939, will be celebrating his 69th birthday the same day the Anaheim Mighty Ducks play in Game 7 with a chance to win the Stanley Cup.

Well, that's a nice coincedience for my wife. But, we all know it will take another great effort by the Ducks if they want to win. New Jersey played all year to have this game at home. They are 11-1 and extremely confident at home. As Mike Babcook is saying now, which team gets the break first might be the difference in the next game.

I can't wait to see how it plays out. The only guarantee is we will see someone skating with the Cup at the end of the game.
