Offical 2003 Stanley Cup Finals thread (Finals start on Pg. 17)

Big Dude is bowing down to Kariya!!! Madden is one tough dude but Kariya.........I don't know how to phrase this but BOOYA!!!!!

Being a Flyers fan, I know what a Stevens hit like that can do (remember Lindros?) I just don't like a "hitman" like that. Here is an open letter to all of the NHL teams: I am 6'1" (6'4" in skates) and weigh 285. I know how to skate and will be willing to be an on ice goon just to let Stevens know he is not the biggest hitter in the sport! He has done this to too many quality hockey players and he needs to get a dose of his own medicine!!!

All I have to say at this point is GO JSG AND GO DUCKS!!!!!

GAME ON!!!!!

Adam aka Big Dude

uh Big dude,
No doubt you have size but do you really think you have the speed to chase down Scott Stevens and slam him into the boards? Some of those guys can skate really fast and stop and turn on a dime. Remember what Scott does is legal. And if he signed as a free agent on your team aka the Broad Street Bullies(where did that name come from) you would feel differently.

I'll agree and disagree with you antnee. If Stevens were to sign with the "Broad Street Bullies" (a name adopted in the 70's because of the fighting ability of the team members) I would probably have somewhat of a different attitude but I will still call a play as I see it.

Now, as far as having speed to chase down Stevens, I think I can hold my own for a couple of shifts if I strapped on my CCM Tacks and an oxygen cylinder. Truth of the matter is, I'm too old for the NHL and I am a goalie on my club hockey team. I would never use the boards because the boards end up taking a lot of the energy from the impact. No, I would just wait in the shadows and let him have a shoulder when he wasn't looking or expecting a hit. Kinda like he did to Kariya. I look at that play over and over again, you can see it here, just click on the text next to the picture of Kariya that says "ugly late hit". What's nice about it is they show it in real time and in slow motion. The puck was a good 20-30 feet away from Kariya. Stevens knew it and you can still see him "lock and load" for the knockout. He had ample time to stand down but he chose the "Stevens way". You can say what you want. The officials didn't make a call so it can be called "legal" but I say it was a cheap shot. There was no reason for it.

That being said. I can't wait until tonight. Game 7 Stanley Cup Finals. The 2 best goalies in the league. A number 8 seed and a number 2 seed. What more could one ask for?

GAME ON!!!

Adam aka Big Dude

Well I will take a look at the video later and give you my opinion. You make me laugh about the oxygen tank :teeth:

Anyway who would have thought we would have had this type of series with 2 defensive minded, trapping teams. I have to admit I am excited about game 7 cause it could be explosive

Big Dude and antee, we could argue until the cows come home (and around were I live, that's prettly late) about the Hit. The best thing about it was Kariya wasn't hurt as far as we know. ;)

And, if he wasn't hurt, I think the NHL should look at his helmet and mouthguard. If they are that good, they should make them manditory for all players. Because, that was one heck of a lick!

I'll be in chat tonight if anyone wants to stop in. We could move over to a separate chat room and 'oh" and "aw" together!! My DW will be a nervous reck. My play by play of her reactions will be worth stopping in. :jester:

Here's to a good game!

I think this my first time posting on this thread since the Stars got knocked out of the running way back when. I just wanted to say though that I really hope the Ducks win tonight. I think they really deserve it and they have worked really hard for it. I loved that intro they did on ABC compairing the team with the movie :)

Speaking of the Stars...

What's the difference between the Stars & a bra?

A bra has 2 cups. ;)

C'mon Stars, win the Cup in 2004!

The right team won. Go NEW JERSEY! Way to bring a third cup home to NJ. Can't wait to see it for myself. Now all we have to do is get the Nets in line.

I was pulling for the Spurs to win, but now I'm also pulling for the Nets to lose.

Congratulations to the Devils, but not those gutless turds in the stands.

Those Devils fans in the stands have to be some of the lowest, gutless fans in the world. I was expecting a great ovation for Giguere, but the boos he got were totaly uncalled for.

Wow! What a game! Go Devils!

2003 Stanley Cup Champions.

Has a nice ring to it.

Great series, Great Hockey. Mixed emotions. The Devils certainly earned this cup and they get a BIG UPS from me. They showed they had what it takes to be a champion again.

Although the boos from the NJ fans seemed uncalled for, you have to attend a Stanley Cup Finals game to experience a, sometimes, once in a lifetime experience. You are sucked up into an emotional rollercoaster and if your team happens to win, the euphoria is mind shattering. At the moment the Conn Smythe trophy was awarded, the Devils fans, riding that sea of emotion, felt that Martin Brodeur should have received the award. Even Giguere said "I'm not surprised they booed me," . "In New Jersey, they probably wanted their guy winning it and this is very understandable."

Personally, I feel that Giguere was the MVP of the playoffs but Brodeur certainly had the numbers and the Cup to back up his credentials.

Jiggy finished with .945 save %, 1.62 Goals against average and 5 shutouts.

Martin finished with .934 save %, 1.65 Goals against average and 7 shutouts

Not Too Shabby!

I'm not making excuses for NJ fans but I would cut them some slack on this one.

The only thing that could have topped this is if Paul Karyia came out of the locker room just as Scott Stevens hoisted the cup and cold cocked him with a thunderous shoulder to the chin. That would make for a great commercial and an even more anticipated start to next season!!!;)

Kudos to both teams and congratulations to the Devils and their fans. I'll miss this thread.

GAME OVER

Adam aka Big Dude

you know what Big Dude you are right but I am still embarassed by the booing. What a great series I thought we would have seen a lot of 1-0 games but instead we got a great series
