Offical 2003 Stanley Cup Finals thread (Finals start on Pg. 17)

Wah!!:( What has happened to the Wild? Well, this has been a great ride while it's lasted... I have a feeling it's one game from being over.:(

Sorry Minnesota....Cinderella Lives in Anaheim
Technically, she lives in Orlando, Aurora lives in Anaheim.

It is tough to watch these games, but still, I think the Wild had a fantastic run.

quack quack quack Mr. Ducksworth - I can't believe I will have to eat my words this year about the ducks.

I know but you got to give the guy a nod for putting together the Corporate ownership with the Mighty Ducks tag, can't cha? :)

Are those Devils on a mission or what? Another great game with lot's of hits and controversy too!!! They are the only team undefeated on home ice in the playoffs. Marty was superb in net last night. It would have been interesting to see the Sens score to tie the game after the "upstairs gang" missed the Devil's other goal

Anyway, can the Ducks pull off the sweep tonight? They can but I'm going to say no. I think the Wild will be playing with more passion than they have all year and they will finally find a way to score on J.S.G. I also think it will be more physical than before.

Jeff, the link you gave goes to a "page not found" on a Mastercard website. I'm curious as to what the game was.

The Wild has a chance if they score first...I'm afraid if the Ducks do, it will be all downhill from there. I think the game is as much a mental challenge now as a physical one to them.

Sorry Ducks fans (if there are any) Devils are gonna eat them up. Remember the Panthers? Same story, different team.

Supamaki, that is a pretty bold prediction. All of the Devils fans I have spoken to said that "They were't saying anything yet"! They know that this Ottawa series is FAR from over.

I had a lengthy discussion with a good friend of mine last night (Devils fan). There is no way you can compare the Ducks to any other team in hockey. They are fast and they have the BEST goalie in hockey right now. They swept the #1 seed, ran into a really tough Stars team but were never in any trouble of losing that series and then swept the #6 seed who also made it to the conference finals.

My take on a Ducks vs Devils series is whoever gets to play their style of game will command the series. If it is wide open, end to end pond hockey, well, you know what mascot is more comfortable on a pond. If the Devils come out and play smashmouth style, get in S.J.G.'s face, get a lead and drop back into the neutral zone trap, well, then the Devils will do what you said they would and be dining on Duck ala orange.

However, the Disney team is at home relaxing, keeping loose in their whirlpools and anticipating watching the Devils and Senators beat the living heck out of each other. They are already in the finals! Can the Devils keep their home ice dominance alive? We'll find out in just 3 short hours!

P.S. Jeff, that game is now on my favorites. It is pretty cool. Now, If I can only not run into so many cones!!! ;) ;)

The PLOT thickens! Man, did Stevens ever put a hit on Hossa:eek: I think he knocked him into the Memorial Day weekend!

I thought it might have been all but over after the 1st period and the way the Devils were dominating the game. The Sens could only manage 2 measly shots on goal. But then a relative no-name, who goes by the moniker of Jason Spezza, decides to enter his playoff career with a bang. A goal and an assist. The Senators have their backs against the wall but they are not ready to die just yet. Can they break the home winning streak of the Devils to force a game 7? Who knows:confused:

Meanwhile, back at the pond, the Ducks are relaxing and studying tapes to try to find any weaknesses in the Eastern conference teams.

I heard they might get Will Smith for the home opener of the Finals to sing "Gettin' Jiggy With It"! (just kidding)

Jason Spezza was Ottawa's Number 1 pick in last year's draft. He's only 18 or 19. He started the season in Ottawa but has been shuffled between the Senators and their AHL team in Binghamton, NY most of year. They do expect great things from him in the future. Last night was a bonus.

I still believe Ottawa has the fire power to defeat the Devils. But, as you say, can they beat the Devils in New Jersey? I say they can.

Meanwhile, back in Anaheim, Paul Kariya has been spotted riding Star Tours 20 times in a row! Paul, as you know, is a BIG Star Wars fan. :teeth:

Was Spezza their #1 pick. I thought he was the Isles pick, and they "threw" him in with Chara for Yashin. But I'm not 100%. What I am 100% about is the Devils will win tomorrow night.

Spezza was the second overall pick in the 2001 entry draft and was a key part of a trade that sent Alexei Yashin to the New York Islanders. The Senators also acquired defenceman Zdeno Chara in that deal.

Well, I knew he was a Number Pick, didn't I. I feel like those guys who are arguing in the commercial about where a player was born only to find out both were wrong after checking with NHL.com. BTW, this quote came for an article at slam.ca

I don't know Supamaki, can the Devils overcome their first home ice loss of the playoffs and go up to the Senators house to make it to the finals? Both of those teams played with so much passion last night. I really enjoyed watching the game. The saves made by both goalies AND the posts and crossbars were truly spectacular!!! I can only think that the Ducks have a big grin on their faces watching their future opponent get the snot knocked out of them. Whichever team advances, they are going to be very tired (and sore) pups.

Tomorrow night at 7 EST can't come soon enough for me.

I love game sevens!! That was a great game last night. Both teams played with their hearts on their sleeves. The goalies put on a show. They skated, they hit and you just knew it was going to be decided in overtime.

I take issue with the winner of this series being physically damaged or exhausted. There will be three days until the Finals start and either team will have the home ice advantage so they will not have to travel to Anaheim until Game 3. The Ducks might have too many days off. I believe it will be 10 days in total. Granted they will be rested and most of all healed from any bumps, bruises, twists and strains but there is something to be said about having your body used to getting hit every two or three days. I think the first game in the Finals will be crucial for the Ducks.

Enjoy everyone! Big Dude, pass the beer and munchies will ya?

Ya know, Big Dude, it's a good thing I'm going to lunch in a few minutes or that last post would have been hard to see!! Now, the keg should be enough, that is, unless the game goes into overtime. ;) :jester:
