LOL you are surprised about a snow day for 3 inches of snow...

As a kid we had snow maybe 5 times while I was in school. Each time we got a day off school- the most we got was about 2" and that was once- usually it is closer to 1/4 and 1/2 inch of snow- but trust me everything must close because we people who can drive in 6 inches of water with no problems can't drive on ice at all.

I do recall one time I was in 3rd grade and called my best friend all excited about the snow and the day off school. Her mom answered the phone and asked if I was ill- since I wasn't at school- you see she had sent my friend and her sister off to school on foot as usual- without a second thought- they had only just moved from Maine the year before and really the snow was nothing to think about so she thought nothing of it.

But from that day on my friend always got to harass her mom about making her "walk to school in the snow" and when we wanted to be really obnoxious we'd add things like barefoot without a coat -lol

So we will get snow days here easy-even have had them if none is staying on the ground and it is just falling in flurries.

Enjoy your snow!

As a child I have fond memories of going to my friends house and sledding down their huge hill. As an adult, I have memories of sliding down my driveway trying to shovel snow; only to have the snow plow go down the street and block the drive with snow. Oh yeah, and the fact that snow (or ice) was no excuse for being late for work. Unfortunatly the adult memories are more vivid than the kid memories. I still don't miss it.

I still take the Disney bubble snow over the real stuff!

Be, your post made me LOL because I heard the same thing from my parents when I was little. Funny thing is, when I tell my kids I had to walk up hill in the snow Im telling the truth. I lived in a small community and there were no busses so we never had delays or snow days. We literally walked to school in inches of snow...and to get to school I really did walk up hill. LOL A HUGE STEEP hill! 3-7 predicted for here overnight. Argggggg...I really really hate snow. Anyone want any? I would be happy to share with you.

While Be's story was funny, your's is much closer to my own experience as a kid! Sure it wasn't fun thinking of having to slog through it just to get to school, but oh, the fun on the way home! Woot!

No snow here. Just rain and more rain. Temps are in the mid-60s -- I actually had to wear socks this morning

All the morons are out tho - My 40 minute drive to work was closer to 1h 15m due to the ineptitude of people who can't handle things falling from the sky while they drive. *sigh*

I guess it's the price I pay for living in 'God's Waiting Room' and I'd still rather have this than snow any day

When I was little I remember having loads of snow around at Chritmas. My school was an hour's bus journey from home so we used to get snow days and even now I have my pc at home hooked up just in case i can't get to work. The only thing we've had so far is rain, rain and more rain, so if you guys could send some snow to England I would be grateful

Here in Maryland, we don't usually get snow until after Christmas. However, this year is breaking the cycle... anyway, I remember one year when I was about 9 or 10, we were going to my Uncle's house in New Hampshire for Christmas. I was so excited because FINALLY, I would get my white Christmas. Well, what do you know.. NO SNOW IN NASHUA on Christmas that year, and guess where it did snow? HERE AT HOME! LOL

We are in for another snow storm tonight, though we will likely get a few inches of snow tonight, then it will change into freezing rain.. most likely a snow day tomorrow.. hate the ice!

yeah, what is it with that? I have lived in Florida for almost 4 years and I can never understand why, in a state where it rains all the time, people suddenly forget how to drive when it rains? What is that?

And to all you people up north talking about this "snow" stuff...well, I just had to get my sweatshirt back from my sister since I don't have a coat and it is FREEZING here...I mean the other night at work it was like 55 or something. I can't handle this. I can't wait until our 2 months of winter is over and the summer comes back for the other 10!

I'm right with you! It hits 65 and I'm cold. With having Reynauld's, the cold feels even colder. I'd never make it if we ever move back north. As for the drivers, it's tagged on an extra 10 minutes for me to get starwarskid to school, just because of the snowbirds and tourons. Add the rain, and it's even more time. I think the horse and buggies back in Lancaster County, Pa moved faster than drivers yesterday.

SNOW DAY!!!!

23 degrees, 4 inches of snow on top of the 3 we got earlier in the week and coming down at about an inch an hour, soon to be 2 inches an hour and no school!!!!!

I wouldn't mind it being cold if it snowed, but we having nothing but fog. Fog normally lifts after a couple of hours but it's now 12.38 and it's still here. I hope it clears up soon as I am going to my Fiance's work's Christmas Party tonight

Spending a day with your kids reminds you of the joys that they are, and the miracle of them growing up, especially as they start to develop language and personality.

Case in point: DD#2, 16 months old.

Today, I thought back on her first word. After countless sleepless nights, mountains of diapers containing things too foul to be mentioned, the worries, the joys, I remember seeing her angelic face, looking with those innocent, beautiful eyes, into mine, and she said her very first word:

Banana.

(well, actually a-na-ma, but I knew what she meant)

A few weeks later, I was SO proud when she put together her first 2 word sentence. It was after she was crying piteously, needing the comfort and attention that only a parent could give. It was a difficult day, a long day at work, but I knew that my baby needed me. So I picked her up, and she uttered her first sentence!

No Daddy!

(and twisted and writhed to reach mommy)

Finally, today, the culmination of language development. She has finally put together 3 words, the 3 words that you long to hear from your child.

(as she clutched a gigantic stuffed animal toy in a store)


Could somebody remind me why I signed up for this?
