OCTOBER 30th & NOVEMBER 3rd Cruises (FE and Meets)

Wrapping a Disney trip around it does help. My son and started with the Expedition Everest Challenge in May (5K plus Scavenger Hunt). We had so much fun with it that we decided that would be a new mother/son tradition. My daughter is running the 1/2 marathon with me - hopefully that, too, will become a tradition. Of course, she is in a lot better shape than I am ;)

DH & I are running the Wine & Dine with you too!

Wow! Lots of runners here! I am looking to start training for a 5k. I have only walked, never run. I have been a couch potato for years, so I may check out the info suggested!

We returned from our Gulf coast vacation yesterday. Lots of fun and sun. Not too much time in the water as the waves were pretty big most of the week and a good bit of rip tide. We were knocked off of our feet several times and we weren't out very far.

Hope everyone has a good week! It is supposed to cool off here tomorrow night. We have had 20+ straight days of 90+ weather. Looking at averages, we shouldn't be there for another month!

Agree with Stephanie, Please take your FE with and put it out on your door. You might still be surprised at the gifts you will receive, even if you are unable to give this time (we can). :wizard:

2 years ago, I could have never seen myself running in a 5k, let alone a half marathon. In 2010, DD and I completed 12 races (5k's and 10k's). We celebrated that accomplishment by running the WDW half marathon in Jan 2011. We are signed up for 3 more half marathons...Disneyland 9/4/11, WDW Wine & Dine 10/1/11, and WDW half marathon 1/7/12.

DH and I started this journey together because my mom was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer in 11/08. One of thew biggest risk factors for ovarian cancer is obeseity. Since then, I have lost 50#, with another 35 to go. I continue this journey after losing both of my parents in 2010 (Mom, age 62, 6/25/10, and Dad, age 67, 11/9/10). They were young...I am all about reducing my risk factors! The strange thing is my mom's parents are still living, and so is my dad's mom...just lost my 1st grandarent 4 years ago.

I am training again for the DL half marathon. If you haven't checked out the Run Disney website yet, I encourage you to do so. Jeff Galloway, the official trainer for Run Disney, has some great programs and training plans for free on the site. I use his run/walk/run method, and finished my very 1st half marathon WDW 1/2011, with a time of 3:19:07. My goal is to beat that time for Disneyland! I had barely any training in for my 1st half as I had been my dad's caregiver, and had no time or mental energy to train. My longest run all year last year was only 6.2 miles. The 2 months before the half, my longest outing was only 3 miles. I spoke to Jeff at the expo, and he suggested to run my first 3-4 miles at a 20:40 interval. I ended up running the entire distance that way, and finished with a smile, standing upright, and wanting to do another one. Jeff Galloway has some great books out there too...I would suggest picking up his 5k book to start. It is a great motivator, plus gives you training, some nutrition, and some great mental tips. His training plans can take a beginning runner from couch to a half marathon in 18 weeks...quicker if you are already running.

My motto is...I may be slow, but I finish the race, It's better to be slow, than to never start at all, & just put one froot in front of the other!

DD has even done 2 5k's with us, a watermelon run last year on July 4th-and the heat was horrible, and Castaway Cay.

Hope to see you out there for the Castaway Cay 5k, and running around the Dream :yay:

Stephanie

Thanks for sharing this Stephanie! Very inspirational :) Your time of 3 hours and 20 minutes is amazing with no training - that is a 15 minute mile! Awesome!!!

I ran my second 5K race yesterday and I even placed (as did my son). It was a smaller race so I can't say that I ran super fast or anything, but the trophy sure was a nice surprise.

I did manage my best 1st mile time yesterday since High School so it helps to see the results coming in. I still can't imagine having to run that race 3 more times though! The distance seems daunting.

The family is doing doing an 8K on July 4th and then a 10K on July 23rd. I guess I stay motivated if there is a race of some sort tied around the training.

I am going for my Coast to Coast in 2012 - planning on the Inaugural Tinkerbell Half at Disneyland and then the Wine and Dine Half again in WDW. I have been really torn between the Inagural Tinkerbell and the 1/2 at WDW in January - why Disney made them so close together is beyond me! I *may* try for the full marathon in 2013.

Two things that I am waiting for : I actual enjoy running and I get this runner's high I keep hearing about.

Oh how exciting! On my bucket list is a 5K and I thought what better place than Castaway Cay. :) So starting this week, I'll be walking a mile on my break at work. Then I'll be adding more in over time. I hope that 4 months is plenty of time to get myself into a postion to at least walk the 5K at a fast pace...

Do a search for Couch to 5K.... lots of people have used this program with success!

I have C 2 5K on my iphone, have to start that program soon, but at least doing my 2.5k 3-4x a week is now quite easy. I think the C 2 5K, will help with my pace, which is semi-slow now, 16.5m/mile or 10m/km.

We should have a group meet at the start of the 5k. I will be walk/jogging the course. I am thinking that I will make a cute shirt to wear and get signed by characters.

hmmm......

I love this idea!!!

or

Just a start, but I like simple designs, thinking about how to add the DCL logo, perhaps a shadow behind mickey or behind Castaway Cay 5k, hmmmmm. I did it in deep blue as well incase any guys don't do dark purple. The file is very large, sized 8x8, could go on either the back of the shirt or at a smaller size for a chest design or both.

You are much more creative than me for sure :) I couldn't even get that far!

Definitely a great start!

Getting excited! Only 11 more days until I can do our online check-in and register for Palo!
