October 2011 Code Watch

Same here - we have reservations at ChampionsGate in case there's no discount for our WL room. Also looking into a last minute room at Bonnet Creek. Anyone else doing this?

FigmentChick, you make a compelling argument. Suites at that price? Excellent deal. I saw that on Mousesavers and considered it. We don't really need to eat all our meals at WDW. We drive down so we have a car. The deal is looking more and more tempting.

Thank you for the compliment (I don't get many of them...I'm management :D. Sorry....I have a weird sense of humor). Anyway....I've made my peace. It's been very hard (I'm going to miss POR so much, but I can visit it on our "day off"), but I'm getting through it. I've played with our "schedule" and rearranged the days we were going to be at AK and DHS as those were the only days we were going to use EMH. I was also planning on taking the older two to MK on Monday night for EMH, but it's not a big deal.....it was a surprise they didn't know about and we'll just do something else.

We stayed off site in one of the DTD Hotels our first 2 visits to WDW back then we did have a car our second stay but the transportation provided by the Hotel was sufficient for our needs.
EMH or the lack there of would not bother me since for the most part when I schedule I plan on avoiding them.
You got a great deal and if it were not for the fact that I no longer drive and DH does not like to drive while on vacation I would consider staying at BVS in a heartbeat.

Hey, sjs.....I understand about the transportation thing and I also understand that is why a lot of people can't switch to off-site (I know for a fact those shuttles don't run nearly as often as the Disney transportation). However, I am not one to relinquish driving....ever. I just feel more comfortable knowing I have a car in the lot and can leave whenever I want....even if that means only waiting for a bus for 5 minutes. Also, my hubby suffers from anxiety, so having the car is a necessity in getting him out of the parks and back to the hotel quickly if need be.

To bad we won't be there at the same time, or I'd rent a minivan and you and your hubby could hitch a ride. ;) (again....sorry....weird sense of humor)

We are going OCt 22-29 with res at CBR already. I am fine with the 2 resevations/depsoits since the 22nd was a no park day, but we planned to get up early on the 23 and hit the parks. If I have 2 res-do I have to go to the CUstoms house at CBR and actually check out and back in? I guess I will have to do this to get our park tickets(if the package requires us to buy them)

What is the chance at a resort as large as CBR they would make us change rooms?? That seems a little crazy to me. IF I have to pack up and move that will really hurt my plans for the day.

You must go check out and back in again no matter what room you're in.

If the 2 reservations are for the same "type" of room (preferred v not-preferred, same view, etc) they will try to keep you in the same room. However, often the type of room available with a discount is limited, and often is the more expensive room category - that's why there's a discount. The cheaper rooms tend to book first. So if your reservation spans 2 differenty types, you will likely be moved.

I believe, however, that Bell Services might actually do the move for you as long as everything's packed. Ask at the concierge desk.

Come over to the dark side with me and stay off-site. LOL But I'm not kidding.....I made back up reservations on Friday for Buena Vista Suites and got a phenomenal rate ($76 per night is the average....and that's a SUITE). Anyway.....I'm keeping my reservation with POR until the last possible moment. We always rent a car, so Disney transportation is not a consideration for us and I am only losing three EMHs that we would be using during our trip....I just rescheduled my days.

Let me know....I still have the discount codes.

A friend of mine stayed here and LOVED it! They couldn't get a discount so she went off site. She loves being on site, but would not pay the price they wanted.

IF you MAY want to do it, you need to call TODAY and book it. Today is the last day of the offer.

Discount codes for BVS or for on site resorts? And is there anywhere to look up codes for Disney properties? (I know, I know...I just can't give up the ghost quite yet). I could stomach no free dining for our dates if I could get a great room discount or SOMETHING. Although I just switched my ressie from POR to POP on Friday morning (before the FD rumor-blackout dates post came out), so I am not sure if they even do deep discounts on the value hotels or not.

Sorry...I just SO want to feel like I am getting a great deal to justify taking this trip.

FigmentChick--I thought you and I were arriving around the same date (20th for me)? I am going to get a room only reservation for Oct 20th, 21st & 22nd if they offer a room discount and stay at Buena Vista Suites for those dates if not. I (hopefully) will then make a second reservation for the 23rd on. When exactly will you be there?

Thanks for the heads up, but I booked a room at BVS the same day that you posted the sale info from Mousesavers newsletter...about a week ago? It is a great deal, but free dining will save me even more if it is offered for the majority of my trip. I am undecided what we will do for the first part, during the blackout period. We will probably try to stay on-site those 3 days if they offer a room discount, otherwise we will fall back on BVS.

A friend of mine stayed here and LOVED it! They couldn't get a discount so she went off site. She loves being on site, but would not pay the price they wanted.
That was my issue. I am an accountant and I budget for every line item on a vacation (food included). Free dining is an awesome offer, but only for our whole stay. I don't want the hassle of a split stay and I can save so much more by staying off site. When I factor in how much our family eats and the food & wine marketplace booths, the free dining from the 23rd to the 29th is just not a value for us. Plus, with BVS, my daughter could use the sleeper sofa and not have to share a bed with her brother....big plus on that side.

Hey, Jennifer....it's discount codes for BVS. It was in the Mousesavers newsletter. Honestly, I would rather pay "value" prices and get a moderate (well, semi-deluxe) resort off-site than stay at a Disney value. Although, I shouldn't hasten to judge because I truly have never stayed at POP. However, there are five in my family (me, DH, DD11, DS10, and DS2.8) and squeezing into a value room is not so much fun for us. Plus, the girl and I need counter space for all our hair products (we both have frizzy, natural curly hair that's impossible to tame).

I will be there on the 20th. It' s not in our best interest (financially) to do a split stay. It would only help me with my ADRs for Sunday through Thursday (didn't plan on anything Friday and Tuesday is California Grill) and staying onsite just to get EMHs isn't worth it either because I really only needed them for Saturday and Monday morning, which, given that I will now most likely be off-site, I am just switching parks those two days. So, we're going to cancel all our ADRs except California Grill and Tusker House. We only planned on the table service for free dining, we would actually prefer not being tied to any ADRs and let our vacation free flow, so to speak. Don't get me wrong, I am sorry I won't get to try San Angel Inn and Restaurant Marrakesh, but I am not overly devastated. I'd rather have the more relaxed vacation with my family and save the moola.

Too funny!!!!!!:rotfl2:

The promo code for the second night at $59 ends tonight, but then it will be $79 a night (or is it $69? sorry...I can't remember). Still a great value in my opinion.

Can someone share the code for BVS? we are going 10/15-10/22 also.

What is the cancellation policy? Will we have to pay for parking at the parks?

Code is over at Mousesavers. As for paying for parking at the parks? Well, yes if you do not have AP's, DVC (I think that is still a perk) or something like that. However, they have breakfast at BVS, free parking and no resort fee. The website says, that they have a shuttle with schedule to/from WDW. The do charge for WiFi and the suites have two flat screen televisions.

My number one suggestion to any people visiting WDW has always been "Stay on Property". I actually feel as if I went over to the dark side by suggesting that this is a great deal. The hotel looks great and the suites look fabulous.

Please post a hotel review when you get back. Thank you

Actually, Grumpy... I'm still struggling hard with this one. I'm really, really, really hoping for an AP discount rate at a WDW property BUT... I'm not ruling it out.

The code is MSV and is available at Mousesavers.com. You have up to three days before check-in to cancel with no penalty. You will have to pay the $14 to park at the parks, but as Bell says, they offer a shuttle. When I say I'm paying $90 per night, I am including the $14 each day to park in the parks in that price.

Bell, I feel the same way. I always advocate to stay on property, but we do have to be practical. I can spend $216 per night and stay at POR and not have free dining for three of those days. Or I can pay $90 per night, have more room and just pay for dining out of pocket (which isn't that big a deal for my family). Plus....now we're not tied down to any ADRs.....we can ride the rides to our hearts content and shimmy on over to counter service if we get hungry.

Bonnet Creek is nice too. The same friend stayed there. I think they came out with an offer as well.

The only time I wouldn't consider off property is from Dec 26th to the new year:goodvibes Just too busy.

I just realized that the FD deal will change me to the package rules with 45 days cancellation! My sister may or may not join me. She is going to be moving to a new house then and it depends on how well the move is going. If the FD comes out, can you add another person later(after the 45 days are up) without penalty? I assume that person will still get the free dining? So far it is myself and my 2 kids so we would have space in the room to add my sister. SInce the price will go up(more tickets) I think I can do this without penalty.

I believe you can add someone up till 3 days prior to the trip and they still get on the package. It will depend if free dining is being "offered" at the time you add her if she would get it.
