October 13th, 2007~"Cruise-A-Palooza"

Hi everyone and "Welcome" to DisneyFamilyTX!

I don't think I have ever went shopping on "Black Friday." I basically am in recovery mode on that day. You know...food, more food, the preparing of the food, cleaning up the food, and than a little more food... :teeth:

Kevin, Mark and our oldest DS hit Best Buy, Target, and Gamestop in the wee hours of the morning. He too was disappointed. The laptop he wanted at Best Buy was sold out. He did get 2 SD cards, memory stick, and a few other things, and our DS did get the game he wanted.

Well, I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. :sunny:

Hey everyone! Just booked for this cruise and am VERY excited to be going. We'll be on deck 7 midship on the port side - and it's going to be a loooong year and a half! Anyhow...

My name is Mike and I'll be cruising with my wife (married 3 years, will be 4 years before the cruise) and 2 year-old daughter (she'll actually turn two a couple of days after we get back). We're meeting the wife's sister and her husband (one of my best friends), and they have three daughters of their own. Also working on a buddy and his wife who have a daughter 3 weeks older than mine, so hopefully they'll be joining us as well.

It will be our first cruise ever, and from what I've read we picked a good one to start with. Hopefully our DD will be old enough to enjoy the cruise, even if she probably won't remember it.

Anyhow, very nice to meet you all! :wave2:

Hey Mike - I'm Brent. My family will be on the our first cruise as well. My wife and I have a 4 yr old DS who will be 5 at sailing and also a DD who will be turning two just after the cruise. We took our DS to Disney when he was 2 and its quite amazing what he actually remembered. Looking forward to the cruise - I'll be looking for ideas/hints of things to do with the little one's throughout the cruise.

All the best!

Welcome DisneyFamilyTX!!!! I see this was also your first post - welcome to The-DIS as well.

Looks like you are looking for some 'start up' information on DCL - if so, I can't think of a better place to start than the below link

I can relate...if I had a dime for each time our family gave us an 'eye roll' when we start discussing past/future WDW-DCL trips. I confess...many of us on these boards need to go through a Disney support group - wait a minute...we are on one.[/QUOTE=d'Isigny]

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome. I'm really looking foward to getting to know everyone and hopefully meeting on the cruise. Great info on the link! It looks like a great source.

I definitely feel like this is a support group! ;-) My DW and I feel that Disney is just a great way to do something as a family. We really have a blast whenever we go.

I'm learning my way around the board and lingo. Gearing up for the holidays - Cruise wear is definitely going to be on my list to Santa!

All the best!

Outside lights are up, most of the inside of the house is decorated except for putting up the tree. We will wait until we get back from WDW to do the tree. Next 2 days will work on packing for our trip.

The weather in Central PA has been wonderful the past couple of days. In the 60's during the daytime.

Back to work tomorrow, but for only 2 days.

It seems like their our such limited quantities of the special sale items that the only way you get them is to be the first 5 people in line.

Unfortunately your right. My husband (and me too, I admit) wanted the Toshiba laptop. We found out later that they only had 18 per store. Oh well, what can you do? :confused3

Nancy, kudos to you! All your Christmas decorations up! Normally I would be right there with you except this year we have George, the dog. :dogdance: I can just imagine what havoc he can and probably will make on his first Christmas. So, this year we are going very light on the decorations and hopefully next year he will be older, maybe a little wiser and not so prone to chewing. One can always hope and dream you know. ;)

I also have to say Nancy..."Have a great time at WDW! :dance3: How fun is that and what a perfect time to go. Lets just say I'm just a little bit envious, but it's all good, it's all good. :teeth:

Everyone, have a great week!!! :sunny:

We went out on Black Friday and got a few things from Sams CLub, went to the mall just so the kids could see what Black FRiday looked like.
Our outdoor Christmas lights and tree are half decorated, same inside. We put a train under the tree.........

Spent last night trying to pack for our trip. It is hard this time of year to decide what to take since it is warm during the day, but cools off at night. I have alot of holiday sweaters, but am restraining from taking them all with me. Will only take my Mickey/Minnie Holiday sweater. Or for at least now that is the only one in the suitcase.

I noticed in that Mario Lopez is now a narrator for CP while I am there. We have CP dinner package for 11/30 to see Rita Moreno who is one of my favorite narrators as she really gets into the music. But might have to try standby line to see if we can see him just to see if he is as cute in person.

Last day of work so need to get busy.

Not sure what I am most jealous about - Candlelight, Disney World or this being your last day at work.

I still get 'chills' when I think of attending Candlelight at Disneyland in 2001. David Ogden Stiers was wonderful as narrator of the Christmas story - and the huge orchestra with up to 100 voices made such a memorable evening. Enjoy – what Epcot restaurant did you sign up for?

Have a great trip...say Hi to Mickey for us....safe travel........k

I'm so jealous...going to WDW and the CP. I'd love to see Mario in person too...you'll have to tell us if he is as cute in person...

Hope everyone's TDay was good. I spent mine in Sunny Florida...unfortunately not in Orlando...but in Tampa with family. It was nice getting away from VA for a little while.

Did a little BF shopping myself...let's just say my family is "CRAZY" , what were they thinking getting me up at 2:00AM to go stand in line at Best Buy! Although...they did get some good deals on stuff, so I guess it was worth it. NOT! :rotfl:

:wave2:

I must say I too am jealous you're at Disney right now Nancy. Hope you're having a blast. Since I think this is the forum to appreciate, I'll share my latest project - I'm making my own lawn Mickey & Minnie Christmas decorations. I'm on the painting phase right now and they're looking pretty darn good.

As a rookie, I have a question regarding booking on the actual cruise. Is there a significant discount for booking a next cruise while in the process of one?

Hope everyone is doing well. Just think, soon enough we'll actually be in the year of our cruise!

Happy Holidays,
Brent

Would you post a picture? I love Christmas we decorate outside too! I would love to see any CHristmas decoration pics including trees!

I would love to see pictures of the Disney Yard art.

Bevtoy......here is a link to our website for our Christmas lights. It is just one of those freebie sites so please do not take it too seriously. Of course we have our share of the mouse in our display. The only homemade piece is the mickey wreath, which alone has 700 lights on it.

We are going to WDW this weekend for our annual family trip then next weekend is neighborhood grown up only weekend at Disney.

Your website, home and decorations are beautiful! :thumbsup2
Wish I had that kind of talent. We put out a nativity and a star each year, thats about it, its really simple but it means a lot to us.
Anyone else have pictures of a decorated house or yard/
My family loves decorations. For entertainment we get in the car and ride around neighbothoods to see everyone elses display. Really gets us in the Christmas spirit.:santa:
We have a angel on top of the tree and a little train underneath it.

Hey Everyone - Well we just got our first snowstorm. It was a good one. Lots of snow. It cracks me up when people that have lived here all thier lives and learn how to drive here get one snow and they lose thier minds! Its days like today that I sit back, close my eyes, and remember the clear blue water at Castaway Cay. To everyone out east. Here it comes, wet heavy and lots of it, Good Luck.

Dave...thanks for sharing - wonderful work on the web site and your Christmas display looks fantastic.

We, too, will pile everybody in the van and drive around to look at christmas lights. There is a street ~3 miles from us that attracts (wat appears to be) hundreds of cars ever night. This neighborhood goes all out and is a treasure to drive past....again and again.

know living in Arizona, we don't have anything near your weather - but we just turned on our heater last night. This morning was our first frost warning...with temps below freezing. I know - I know...that's nothing to brag about. It just is strange - last week we celebrated Thanksgiving eating out on the back patio in shorts and short sleeved shirts. This morning...people must have dug through the back of their closets...wearing down jackets and leather coats that prob still had the tags on them. I know - I know...your hating me right now. I can assure you...come July/August...you'll be able to share your cool tempatures with me while I am melting in 115 degree heat - where nights cool off to the 90's. :furious:

OK...new topic - What are you buying for your SO or children this Christmas that is cruise related?

I'll start - I am a 35mm camera buff. You'll prob need to pry a Canon A1 from my cold fingers after I am long gone. We finally ventured out of the cave and got a 'starter' digital point-n-shoot two years ago. That camera served us well - but had some limitations. It did not take anything useable when DD's were active or the subject required zooming. We decided this year to upgrade it. I would have loved getting a digital SLR...but those are still a little too expansive. So, we are awaiting receipt of a Canon S3 IS - multi featured digital camera. I am very excited in knowing that more of the images captured will be worth printing out or keeping on the hard drive.

Anyone else able to share some things that Santa is planning to put under your tree?

Well...it's late and we have a lot (ok...too much) planned this weekend. Tomorrow is our 'light parade' down Central Avenue. Trucks...cars...motor homes...18 wheelers...you name it...everything entered is covered in thousands and thousands of Christmas lights. We've been attending this parade for 10-11 years. I can remember when this had very few entries and was almost laughable. Today, it's turned into an incredable event. Sunday is the first day of Advent...many activities at church and a birthday party for BIL in the evening. Will probably blink and the weekend will be over.

Take care, Kevin

We got our kids a s h i t z u puppy last night its 6 weeks old. (The board tried to blank out the dog breed so I had to seperate the letters LOL)
The littlest girl is getting American Girl doll accessories, she wants to take her doll on the cruise.

Does anyone know or have a teenager they are taking on this cruise?
My oldest daughter will be 17 at time of sailing and she hasn't been able to locate any teenagers planning to sail.

Right now I'm on the fence between this cruise and the next week. But if we do go, it will be just me and my DS - who will be 17 at the time.

He really wants to go the following week, because he'd prefer the Western AND and a kid he met last time is on that cruise. But I want to go Oct. 13 because he'll only have to miss 3 days of school instead of 5 the following week.

LisaB

Edited to add: As of now, we ARE booked on the Oct. 13 - 20, and I think I'll stick with that date. Bevtoy - Ryan's (DS16 - 17 at time of cruise) email is gt3king1@hotmail.com
