OCD Princess Planners: Flights, Frights, Food, & a ToT Race, Too!!!

You all want to read another race report, right? ::yes::

you bet I do...

Ok, so on the day Tammie and her family did the color run I was out with Steve doing a 5k. It was suppose to be a long run day for me too, but since I had been using my worn out shoes quite a bit... my ankles were a tad sore. I figured doing just 5k would be a welcome break.

The race was very local. I could have probably run to the start from my house since on my long runs I loop not too far from where the start of this race was. It made it nice because while the start time was 8am, we didn't need to leave too early to get there. We did however have to leave earlier than we would have had I not totally spaced picking up our race packets the day before. :sad2:

The start was going to be on a track at a school. I had never been to this school (near by town) so I was surprised that it was a dirt track. Weird.

Anyway, there was LOTS of people already there so we parked about a quarter mile from the start/finish/packet pick up area. We got to the packet pick up and by the time we were there, my ankle had started to gush. Yep... those icky blisters had burst. :crazy2:

ICK ICK ICK

We had to walk back to drop off our packets. In it... lots of pamphlets for future races sponsored by fleetfeat.... our bibs and dorritos. Dorritos? Back at the car, we got our bibs put on. It was not like other events I had done where the bib held the chip. Instead, not only did the chip come separate, but they wanted it back at the end. There were instructions on how to zip tie it on to your shoe or use your laces to tie it on. Steve decided to just put it it in his pocket. (BAD IDEA)

The race started and the cluster of people was ridiculous. It was like the phm again...with walkers blocking the entire path almost immediately. :confused3 I weaved a bit and lost Steve. Once around the track and then out into the "real world" It was on one of the down town streets close to the one mile mark that I caught up to Steve. I am not sure where he came from nor how I was behind him. Well... yes.. probably behind because I got stuck behind walkers...who just wouldn't move.

I wish that I had more walkers to hold me up in a 5K...then I would not feel so bad coming in last...

We ran a short bit together but by about 1.5 miles we were separate again and I had forged ahead. I passed more and more people. I had my sights on one or two gals ahead of me that I never was able to catch. :headache: I should have pushed harder to catch them.

I finished the race in 27:36. It was weird because as you cross the finish, they immediately are giving you a medal and untying your shoes to get that chip.

Wait, did that say I finished 4th? :cool1: I knew that first 5 in each age division got a prize.

I waited for Steve to finish. He came in at about 35 minutes. Sorry... not pictures of him. However I got him to take a picture of me with my snazy prize.

Since Steve had to look at his time place and I wanted a better set of pictures (those first ones are blurry) We went to the computers to check.

Steve was VERY disappointed to learn that since his chip was in his pocket it NEVER picked up him crossing start or finish. I was disappointed to see this.

Notice my gender place (19 out of like 98 women) and my over all place (46 out of 153 or 154 if you count Steve ;)) stay the same. The division place was now 5th. Well, apparently someone had put their gender as female (thus why my over all place was not changed in gender or overall) but had put their age as 0. I am not sure how she finished ahead of me since I came in before her. (unless she was near the back of the walkers and could not start for some time)

So upon checking that I was told I could get my 5th place ribbon instead. At first I was a little irritated that I would have to walk back to my car to retrieve the 4th place ribbon (oh yes, did I mention I had already been to my car and dropped off said ribbon? The car that was parked a quarter mile away) The gal felt horrible though about having given me 4th prematurely (come on... this was like 30 minutes after I finished...so changing it that far after the finish seems a bit silly..so prematurely seems a stretch.) She said I didn't need to go back to retrieve the ribbon.

In the end I was happy enough... 5th was pink. Steve however was LIVID. He has vowed to never run another event held by them. It is true, there should have been a warning that the chip had to be near to the ground in order to be picked up. However the instructions did say to place on shoe...and he chose not to. In his defense though, he is very knowledgable about gadgety workings. The chips that are on normal bibs are strong enough that if you swallow them they will still pick up. The are also super cheap. So why this company went with an even cheaper chip (like the difference of 10 cents vs..??)... :confused3

NEVER THE MAN'S FAULT when he chooses to not follow directions...Jeff and I have this argument all the time...:lmao::lmao::lmao:

I guess last weeks race and this weeks adventure run have taken its tole on Steves running motivation. It makes me worry about the donald in January. :(

He will be okay for the Dopey, this running thing is new and he is working with the race queen...

He will be okay for the Dopey, this running thing is new and he is working with the race queen...

Well, I think it is all very discouraging to him. He starts to make progress... then there is pain. I mean... running... it does equate to pain, but not the type that either he or you endure. Those are the bad kinds... the injury... the muscles or tendons not behaving. I just hope he doesn't give up.

No the people you run with need to communicate what they want from you...you have been more than upfront about how you run...Steve should know that you are going for time...its not completely you

Well, this wasn't for time. I was running.. but not for speed. A pretty slow jog.... After all... it took us about 45 minute to get to the 2 mile mark. Course there was stopping at check points to retrieve tickets and get any goodies...which is great if you want a cookie...or some punch...or even a water bottle. Not so great if they have a gift bag for you. :rotfl: Kinda hard to carry stuff.

The three of us. (Josh, Kira and I) were certain Steve was:furious: After a good nights sleep and soak in the tub he assures me his attitude was more that he was just frustrated that he again "failed". At the time though, it brought back all those feelings of guilt and frustration and pain cause all I could think of was that I pushed someone A-Gain...and made someone mad at me. :sad2:

What a fun sounding race...

If you have a roadrunner sports near you, you should really try one of these. Super fun... They tell you get one ticket... then grab a beer if that is all you want to do (yes, they have a beer garden where participants can get beer for a buck) They have had 12 check points each time I have done it. It is hard to get to all of them... but fun to try. This time was better because I was a little more familiar with the area (last month I had no idea what streets led to what) and also I was able to read the map better this month. Last month we won nothing. This month between the 4 of us, I feel we did pretty good. I love those water bottles... they are the ones that Steve and I both use. So that was quite the prize. Zach will use the crossfit classes. We will have pizza before the next adventure run. That leaves the massage and the mexican. It is not far from where Steve works... so I figure he can use the gc for lunch one day. The massage :scratchin not sure I want to spend an hour with someone touching me. Seems odd. Then again... maybe it would be good to do one day when I am really hurting from all the running. ;)

Tammie's ToT Training
Galloways 10K Week 3
June 17-23

Another week full of ups and downs in the running/training department. I really wish that I could have more ups than downs...

June 17 (Elliptical): I managed to sneak in 30 minutes on the elliptical before heading off to summer school this morning. I wanted to get to Curves afterwards, but instead Jeff and I went and looked at a house...of course I fell in love with the house and the location, but sadly the home is really over priced and I just don't want to budget that hard for the next 20 years...although we really need a new house and this one is right where we want to be in the country (and houses in this area with the land don't come open very often). We have decided to just let it sit a couple of more months and if it is still on the market put in a more reasonable offer.

June 18 (Short Run W3/D1 & Curves): This morning I got a short run in before summer school. I really love the quietness of the park this time of day (5:45 am) but sadly a lot more people are getting out and about and exercising too now that the weather has turned nicer. The shins gave me problems again this morning, but not enough to stop me...just slowed my pace. I ended up with 2.5 miles at a 14.1 minute mile pace. After summer school I headed over to Curves and got a session in and a lot more golf ball massages to the feet to help the shins.

June 19 (Curves): Just a session today at Curves. I wondered if the elliptical was the cause of my shins acting up again, so I decided not to use the elliptical until my shins were back to not hurting...and of course I did lots of golf ball massages to the feet.

June 20 (Short Run W3/D2 & Curves): All during this mornings run I felt really off, but my shins were not hurting so that was a good thing. I really felt slow and not very smooth, so I was not expecting a good pace...but when the run summary came up I was shocked by what I saw...one of my best run paces ever...13.6 minute mile over 2.5 miles! This afternoon I got another session of Curves in.

June 21: I had planned to get a curves workout in...but forgot my workout bag and I just did not feel like driving home and then driving to Curves.

June 22 (Long Run W3/D3): This morning was the first time since I started running/training that I really had to force myself to get up and get out there. I just did not seem to have the heart...not sure why but this attitude really scares me, but I did force myself out of bed and onto the pavement. It was another one for the record book in terms of distance 5.82 miles. Throughout the entire run I had to fight with myself about keeping running and not walking more then I should. It was a HUGE STRUGGLE and not pretty, but I pushed myself through it and ended up with a 14 minute mile pace...right where I want to be for ToT....

GET YOUR HINEY MOVING TO WDW UPDATE
JUNE 23

I have FINALLY made it out of Texas and into...

but still on I-20 headed east and through the city of

Shreveport, before stopping in the town of Red Chute.

I have travel 560 miles, only 901 miles to go! :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

That is OUTSTANDING! You should be very proud of yourself!

Yesterday really super duper took it out of me. I ran my 6 miles... it was a great run. I managed to stay at an even pace for the entire time. When I look at my graph, despite any amount of incline... the line indicating my pace stays very flat. I normally will slow and then speed back up, giving me a gagged line.

Then I worked. Ug... too much work.

Then I met up with Kira, Josh and Steve to run the roadrunner adventure run

In total it was about 4 miles (yes, taking me up to roughly 10 for the day... ya think I am ready for ToT?)

that is quite the day, you are NUTS!

Meanwhile, Steve had not yet found us in the crowd of very wet people. I thought maybe he had just decided to hang out in the parking garage near our cars.. nope. Kira, Josh and I decided that Josh would drive around. Kira would stay put and I would go back to the after party to see if he was there. Finally he showed up to the garage. It had taken him and hour and 15 minutes to get back. He was really really hurting! Then he wanted to just leave... he didn't want to talk to us. He was MAD. I assumed he was mad at me for pushing him to run most of that first 2 miles. I decided I am HORRIBLE with running with people. I did ask numerous times if I was killing him. Each time he said no. Still... no more running with people for me. (Sorry, Tammie) I just end up causing people pain.:(

I really do think you are reading this wrong. It sounds to me like Steve was mad at himself. he wants to be at a certain place, and yes, he may be comparing himself to you or having unrealistic goals on progress, who knows. But he just sounds frustrated in general and NOT at you.

I forgot to also mention that I had ran in completely new shoes yesterday. The brooks I had got had caused blisters... changing sizes didn't help. So I went back and got... NOT minimalist shoes. :faint: They actually are the same ones Steve runs in...only mine are the mizuno wave 16 and his are last years 15. I found myself hurting in ways I don't normally... but maybe it is the mileage? Maybe it was the physical work that I did in my job? I just have to give it another shot. The difference in heel to toe drop was noticeable to me... and I had to fight to keep from heel striking (which could account for the shin pain I was experiencing) They were not too much heavier though... and the good news is the heel doesn't rub and cause blisters AND my bunion was not in the least bit irritated by the shoe!!!!:cool1:

Well 10 miles in brand new shoes might not be ideal lol. Shin pain isn't good,. Have you stuck with them all week since then? Any changes? YAY for no bunion irritation and no blisters.

I almost bought those shoes once but they felt "short" to me, not sure why.

We ended up being the third wave. While we waited I went over the game plan with the kids...we would run 2 minutes and walk 1 minute and stick together...doing this as a family. Boo was still pretty grumpy and Goo was annoying him...I could sense that he was not in the mood for this race...but dang it mom wanted to do something as a family so get HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY. When it was our time out of the chute, my boys decided to take off at a dead run, which I have been trying to teach them is not what you do on a long race. So for the first 4 minutes we ran, until Goo slowed but Boo kept going and before I knew it he was out of sight in the mass of people:scared1:...great, how on earth am I ever going to find him...cell phones are not working because of the mass of people, he does not even have a phone on him, and we did not have a meeting place picked out if we got separated. I was mad!!!!! :furious::furious::furious: But we still had a race to run, right before the first color (1K) Goo decides he is tired and starts complaining, but I get him back on track with the walk break, but as the race continued he got worse and worse complaining and whining....Ab and I literally drug him through about 1/2 of the race whining and throwing a fit. His feet hurt, he was tired, the paint got in his eyes...UGH...the reason I did not let him run the first time and during the whole time I was mad at Boo in addition to dealing with Goo. Finally, we crossed the finish line...with a time of about 42 minutes....:rotfl2: the same time I got back in March when it was just me running...this time I did the whole 5K dragging a walking complaining child...I would say that I have improved greatly in 3 months. At the finish line we grabbed our granola bar and some water and then set out to find Boo. Any other normal person would be waiting near the finish line if they got separated, so we walked up and down the finish line area looking for him...finally about 15 minutes later he crosses the finish line....:confused3 how on earth did he end up behind us! After a really good tongue lashing from me, the 4 of us headed to the after party for a little paint fun before heading home to get cleaned up!

Fun pictures but oh, that was draining just reading it! You get mom prizes for that one.

but I survived!!!

I definitely was! He was and is so frustrated. It makes it hard for both of us because if I have a good run... I want to be able to share with him. However, it just makes him frustrated with his own situation. I was able to convince him to attempt some different shoes. Low and behold..one run in them and the usual pain was not there. Now if he could just get over his cold maybe he could start back up his training.

I did have to change that shoe. It ended up with some shin pain and some hip flexor pain. I am loving my newest shoe. The Adidas boost is working really well for me. :goodvibes (hopefully it works for Steve too..as it is the pair that he got recently) After completely a full series of runs in the week...I have not had any trouble...so they seem to be keepers!

Shoes can make such a difference, it's crazy. It kind of makes me think of weight loss support groups. If one person is doing really well and the other(s) aren't it can somehow be demotivating to those that aren't progressing. I don't know why that is, but it is. I see it in so many different areas and it's tough, we all should be able to celebrate individual successes without comparing or personalizing and yet human nature just does the opposite.

Ooh, hip flexor pain, that's not good! Adidas huh? I wasn't sure how they were as a running shoe. I just had to get new shoes for Eric and he plans to do XC in the fall so was trying to find something that would meet both needs and not break the bank. Glad to here they are working well for you, you've had way too many issues in that area!

The adidas boost is brand new...with new material. Instead of EVA it has something else in the midsole. (I can't remember off hand) They are NOT cheap though. I mean.. to me most running shoes are not cheap. (average being around $100) but these run $150. So they are on the higher end of price for shoes.

Ugh that is pricey. Shoes are cheap, I couldn't in anything semi decent for the boys that work for PE, gym and a little running under $50 and really they probably should have something slightly better though Evan does have inserts, with the miles you are putting on those shoes, spending the $$ to get it right makes sense. I am probably allergic to whatever they put in the boost lol, thank heavens for EVA as it is fine.

Tammie and Ann, you two never cease to amaze me. I'm so proud of both of you.

Ann, the organizers of that last 5k didn't sound to great. What were the Doritos about? Were they a sponsor?

Tammie, way to go getting the same time despite the walking and complaining. You are going to run circles around that time when you run solo next. That's great that you were able to run as a family, well almost. I know it wasn't funny at the time, but how funny that he finished 15 minutes after you. He never saw you all go by and you guys never saw him. Oh, I'd have been livid, frantic, etc.

I think I justified the cost since they should last me longer than my minimalist shoes. Nike frees are rated at about 150 miles. So at the one month mark I start seeing serious wear....and by 2 they are done. These are rated more like most neutral shoes... I should get 400 miles out of them...and thus maybe as much as 6 months. So in theory, I might only need 2 a year... vs. 6 pairs of frees. If the frees are on sale for $70.... then 6 of those is $420. The boost $300. So maybe these in the end will be cheaper. Not to mention, I do get a discount at RR sports. I think after all was said and done I paid $130 for them. So really that $300 per year is even less....

I am not sure what the Doritos had to do with anything... I mean... salt after a race is good, but not so much in the way of Doritos... They were not a sponsor so I have no clue why they would be in the bag.

On an exciting note... we are just 89 days away from the race! :cool1: Also, I set a goal for myself to run 500 miles this year. Well, I have almost reached it. I at 99%. I have just 7 miles to go. I will hit that this week. :cool1:

500 miles! Wow!!!!

I didn't realize a minimalist wore out so fast, that must be a pain to replace so often not to mention the cost. The Adidas sound like a great fit!

And economical too. Fuzzy shoe math is kind of like fuzzy Disney math I think :)

I am fascinated by the difference little things make, like socks.

Socks make a HUGE difference. Lightweight compression are best for me and no one should EVER where cotton (I know... you probably have to don't you)

:rotfl: Fuzzy shoe.. fuzzy disney math... yup....

Thank you. I had no idea when I set the goal I would accomplish it so "early" in the year. I mean.. I know the year is more than half over... but I just would not have thought I had a good number of months ahead of me when I achieved it.

Well drifit and cool max are ok but I have to check the content on things now. Funny thing is I've been running in a drifit road runner sock that I thought was perfect with balance and cushion and fabric but with only 3 pairs, laundry and an extra run this week plus a missing sock I decided to try my everyday around the house lucy socks (tried a thinner drifit..too thin!) which are a 50/50 cool max cotton blend an a lot more cushiony and well....for my longest run ever they were awesome! I really assumed my feet would be way too hot and they were sooooo good!

So now I am rethinking the sock thing. I may need to bump up the cushion.

Can you do feetures? They have a lot of cushion. Just not sure on the material... that might not work for you.

For whatever reason, the lycra/spandex content in socks does not bother me. I suspect that is for 2 reasons, 1 it is mostly wrapped in "good" fabric and 2, it is just at the band around the ankle which is not a location that I'm really sweating at lol. Plus I am only wearing them while working out versus undergarments all day or sports bras where I do sweat quite a bit at the band and that makes the contact somehow exaggerated. That said, the lucy socks I love are only a 2% spandex and I wear them at night, every night, all night long expect for summer months so there is probably something to it (the lower %). I have to admit, the idea of spending $14 on a pair of socks is a bit painful but we will see. I'll probably do some comparing the RR ones and the Lucy ones I have and see and go from there. RR and feetures are both around 8-9%. Which isn't horrible but less is better!

$14 for a pair of socks.. I agree!!! It is just crazy. I have been lucky to find ones I like at Fred Meyer (Nike) on clearance. Recently they had a bunch of pink ones... compression. I think I paid $3 each. :cool1: I have splurged a couple times though... but mostly I stick to cheaper pairs.

For our costume for MNSSHP we have decided to go a different route. Rather than making the aprons (my sewing machine has basically died) or purchasing a costume that it is doubtful we would wear again...Ashley has talked us into going a different route...thanks to her love affair for pinterest and Disney inspired fashion. We are going with the Disney Princess Inspired Outfit Route...going classy for the party. Not sure Halloweenish this is, but we still get to be true to our princess.

To refresh memories I am Aurora and here is the outfit I have come up with...

I am really hoping that I don't look like a big wad of pink bubble gum or worse yet a big bottle of peptobismal. What do you think?

We are going with the Disney Princess Inspired Outfit Route...going classy for the party. Not sure Halloweenish this is, but we still get to be true to our princess.

To refresh memories I am Aurora and here is the outfit I have come up with...

I am really hoping that I don't look like a big wad of pink bubble gum or worse yet a big bottle of peptobismal. What do you think?

You will look awesome! I love those shoes!!!
