:confused3 Hi! This board has always been so helpful, so I thought I would try to ask my question on the DIDboards.

We may be moving to the Ocala area very soon. We are going down this weekend. My husband has an interview.

Can anyone tell me anything about the area? I really want to know where are the best places to live? The best schools, etc.? I have a child in kindergarten.

Thanks in advance for any help!

I live about 1 1/2 hours south of you but I hear Ocala is a nice area. I wished I could help you more.

Ocala is a very big place and like any big city, it has it's nice areas and some not-so-nice areas. It is the horse capitol of the world and the surrounding areas are pretty much farms and rural. Silver Springs of Glass Bottom Boat fame is just to the east. I'm not sure how the schools are.

I grew up in Ocala, and it ranks 3rd in the nation for horses (behind California and Kentucky). It's not a big city, but it is growing. It's also not as big a place as GeorgeG makes it out to be.

I lived on the northeast side, but the southeast side is nice as well. We used to call it Slowcala when I was a teenager, but it's a nice place and the schools are good.

Thanks for the info...if anyone else can suggest any neighborhoods or schools I would appreciate it!

Also..FSU grad...I am an nole too!

It seems big to me, especially when I get lost. I guess it takes a little more getting used to. Some of the horse farms are really nice.

My parents still live there, and I went to Fort King Middle, and graduated from Vanguard High School. My brother went to Wyomina Park Elementary, and the same middle and high school.
