Some quotes from an interesting article from Margaret Carlson on Bloomberg.com
http://bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601039&refer=columnist_carlson&sid=azceW2G4gToM

Clinton saw the New Hampshire result as her political resurrection, where she finally found her "voice.'' But if the voice was different, the message was the same. Voters would coronate her partly because she had been first lady, because she was a Clinton, and because it was her turn after all she had been through. It wasn't as much a matter of competing as it was waiting until Super Tuesday to accept the crown.
.....
She has an explanation for why each of Obama's victories is inferior to hers.
.....
Even as Clinton pretends that any primary she doesn't win doesn't count by refusing to congratulate the winner, Obama's wins are getting bigger and broader.

I just read online that Fmr. Republican Senator Chafee endorsed Obama today in RI. :thumbsup2

Anyone from OH? I decided to go to Columbus the weekend before the primary to canvass for Obama. We have to defy the polls in OH, WI, and TX and come up with victories!

DN is hot on the job out there in Kent State...she's closer to Cleveland than Columbus so she'll need you down there!

Did you send her the links for voting in November? I talked to a friend of mine that re-registered when I was a student at TCNJ - she lives in Bergen County but wanted to vote at school so re-registered in Mercer County. After college she registered again, back up in Bergen County for the primary last week.

Is she encountering a lot of enthusiasm?? The polls out today have me a bit nervous but I'm confident we can close the gap.

Yes, I sent it to her yesterday and she called to let me know she had it.

She says that she's done most of her volunteering on campus so far and the kids are really enthusiastic. What the local folks are concerned about is the adults. She told me that she's met a few Kuchinich supporters who are now volunteering for Obama.

Thanks, Tim. Sad that a supporters thread apparently has to say "No Bashing" for people to understand.

I just don't get that. We all saw how well the "I'll just concentrate on the big states I think I can win" strategy worked for Rudy.

Even before the 2004 DNC me DH (who's a political nut) started telling me about this guy in Chicago who was a great speaker and who he thought had a real chance at being the first African American president. We watched his speech at the 2004 DNC because we'd heard so much about him. Since that day, I pretty much figured I'd be supporting him at some point down the line. Since the beginning of this campaign, I thought it was his to lose. Looks like I might have been right.

Actually, I think this campaign was Hillary's to lose...and let's just say that it's not going terribly well for her at the moment. :thumbsup2

Barack is the first candidate since I came of age to vote half a lifetime ago (literally ;) ) that I've had absolutely no qualms about. His politics align closely with my own, though not quite identically. He's a ridiculously inspirational speaker, which goes a long way towards telling what kind of leader he would be. He doesn't cave to special interests, and wants lobbyist influence minimized as much as possible. He's in favor of campaign finance reform, and doesn't buy the ridiculous "money as speech" arguments.

There's just SO much that I admire about the man! No, it's not a cult-like feeling...it's just an honor to finally have a candidate worthy of true support!

Totally agree with everything you said... it's such an important moment in time right now... There was much speculation back during the 2004 DNC that he would in fact run for President, he was definitely going places back then, talk about inspiration....

I totally agree! I get so excited about his campaign. :thumbsup2

Anyone know when the next debate is? I know HC is running that ad in WI saying he said no to a debate (after 18 of them no less), but I think there is one next week in TX?

The funny part is, while running that ad, she was dithering on whether or not to pull out of a debate in Ohio. And people wonder why we say it's politics as usual if Hillary is the nominee? :confused3

I believe that Texas debate is the next scheduled, and I know that they also have one in Ohio (now that Hill made up her mind).

BTW...Did you see Barack's answer to her attack ad? :teeth:

Obama needs to close the gap among Democrats and then the Independents and Republicans will push him over the top. Two plus weeks to make his pitch to the voters.

We start early voting here in Texas on February 19. Obama will get mine and my wife's vote on the first day.

Oh, I dunno about his still needing to "close the gap"...did you see the demographics from the Potomac Primaries this week? He won women. He won 65+. He won middle class. He won the "elite" vote. He won pretty much across the board.

I don't trust the polls coming from "likely voters" in Ohio and Pennsylvania, to be honest. I think he still has ground to make up in those states, but basing it only on people who voted last time kind of eliminates a huge chunk of his support. It's an unlikely candidacy, and it's "unlikely" voters that will put Obama in the White House!

Another big union endorsement. :thumbsup2 I know if I were in a union, it wouldn't influence my vote. I would guess there are plenty of non-political types out there that will take their union's advice though. I know we've seen many that just don't want to do the research, even if it's just a click away.

Major union nod for Obama
Posted: 05:01 PM ET
(CNN) — One of the country’s biggest unions — the United Food and Commercial Workers Union — voted Thursday to endorse Barack Obama.

Obama’s Democratic opponent, Hillary Clinton, had also hoped for the union’s nod.

The union, which has more than a million members, is very active in Ohio and Texas — both contests the Clinton campaign is counting on to help her regain momentum in the Democratic presidential race.

It is also very strong in Pennsylvania, another major contest looming on the horizon, and is a major force in voter turnout in all three states.

The union represents workers in the meatpacking industry, in supermarkets and food processing.

You may like the man, but to put it bluntly, THE MAN IS NOT QUALIFIED TO BE PRESIDENT OFTHE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!!!!!!

He has done nothing in is life to justify anyone's vote for the highest office in the land. This is the most important job in the world.

Please tell me why you would vote for this man. Don't tell me its because you like the message. Tell me what he stands for; what qualifies him for the job.

He has never held a job, never run a company, he has never been the governor of a state, and he has not even been in public office that long.

WHAT ARE HIS QUALIFICATIONS.....Someone, anyone???:confused3

Umm, did you read the title of this thread????

I have been an Obama supporter even before he started running for president. His step sister is in Hawaii campaigning on his behalf. (Likewise, Chelsea Clinton will be in Wailuku, Maui campaigning for her mom.)

He reminds me of Patty Murray from WA state http://murray.senate.gov/about who entered politics on a grassroots level. She used to work in a classroom.

It's time for a change! :hippie:

I thought I saw he is going to be in HI for a rally but maybe it was his step-sister I saw hosting the event.

It will be great if we win WI and HI going into "Super Tuesday" in TX, RI, VT, and OH. I think RI will probably go to Clinton but we'll take VT. TX and OH is anyone's bet at this point. I signed up with the Columbus office today to volunteer the weekend before the primary. Has anyone made any calls? I was calling WI the other night and I called CA and CT prior to Super Tuesday.

I also read today that two superdelegates switched to Obama from Clinton.

yes yes! I love the response ad to it. I think she is going to go all out, similar to the ugly SC debate, next week in the TX debate.
