Clinton Stops at the Pumps

http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/04/30/clinton-stops-at-the-pumps/

Miss "I'm really one of you and HE'S an elitist" doesn't know how to pump gas or get coffee from a machine.

Next she'll go to WalMart, buy a pair of socks and be in awe of how the cash register really works. :lmao:

The only saving grace about Hillary is she's a junkyard dog who would have McCain's cajones as trophy hanging over her fireplace (next to her shotgun, of course ;) ) should she be the nominee.

Well after all, according to the union leader in NC, she's got testicular fortitude. ;)

Here's another nugget re I'm just a regular-working-schmoe-like-the-rest-of you-and-understands-your-plight:

Clinton Carpools in Indiana
By Perry Bacon Jr.
South Bend -- Like any hardworking, environmentally conscious American, Hillary Clinton carpooled to work this morning in South Bend, stopping by a gas station on the way to purchase some gas at $3.65 a gallon.

Or maybe she is not like most other Americans. In what increasingly is a contest of which millionaire lawyer can better show he or she identifies with middle- and working-class Americans, Clinton's staff arranged for her to join a local man here on his morning commute to work.

Jason Allen Wilfing, a 33-year-old field foreman at Deluxe Sheet Metal, where Clinton was holding an event, drove to the Marriott Hotel in a pick-up truck to meet Clinton. But the white Ford 250 was not his own; he borrowed his boss's car for the event, as he needed a truck with enough room for the other passengers: a Clinton political aide and one of her Secret Service agents.

Wilfing's boss had asked whether he would drive Clinton. "How could I say no?" Wilfing said.

Clinton met Wilfing's family at the hotel before the drive started, although they rode in a separate car during the "commute." Wilfing's wife, Bobbie, said high prices had forced them to stop having their daughter Alexis, 7, take gymnastics lessons or taking the whole family on a trip to Lake Michigan.

The truck Wilfing drove was in the middle of Clinton's motorcade, surrounded by Chevy Suburbans carrying the rest of Clinton's security team and staff, and right in front of them was a news crew taping the entire appearance. After the short drive, at the gas station waiting for Clinton was not only dozens of reporters, but also a member of the staff that gathers video for her campaign commericials.

At the Marathon gas station, Clinton stood beside Wilfing as he filled the tank of the borrowed car, while she spoke softly about her plans to reduce gas prices as more than a dozen reporters watched. (The total for the gas was $63.37 for a little under a half a tank; Clinton paid for it with campaign funds.)

Asked by one of the reporters when she had last pumped gas herself, Clinton said she did not know. Her staff was not only not sure when the last time the former first lady drove a car (it's not clear she's allowed to as the the Secret Service takes her everywhere for security reasons) but had to check to make sure that she actually has a valid driver's license.

Oh yeah, HRC, just another average working stiff.

I'm still sick, but just wanted to report this.... This are super's for TODAY, not to be confused with the 3 or 4 yesterday.

http://thepage.time.com/2008/05/01/thursdays-super-battle/

Latest tally: Obama 4, Clinton 1.

Obama to pick up three prominent Illinois supers — Mayor Daley, House Majority Leader Barbara Flynn Currie and Cook County Board President Todd Stroger — as the state finishes filling out its delegate slate.

Also nabs former DNC leader Joe Andrew after a defection from Clinton.

While Clinton is expected to get Connecticut AFL-CIO President John Olsen.

Edited
An added note, just heard Joe Andrew, he made the decision on his own without input from Obama or Clinton. Obama only needs 284 delegates to get to 2024

No wonder she likes McCain so much. She's a regular working stiff in an SUV .......... surrounded by a Secret Service motorcade, of course.

And McCain is just a regular guy visiting an Iraqi market ........... wearing body armor and surrounded by hundreds of armed-to-the-teeth American soldiers.

I swear to God, if Obama stops off at a 7-11 to buy some pork rinds, I'm going to scream.

Yanno, JFK and FDR didn't feel the need to prove they were "just folks". They knew better. They were born at the top of heap, had every advantage in life and they used those advantages to help the disadvantaged.

It really is a sick joke for someone to pretend they're "just folks, when they've lived in the bubble of the Arkansas governor's mansion, the WH, the Senate, and is worth $109,000,000. How stupid can some people be to believe this crap?

That was not a rhetorical question.

See how much $ you will save with the Gas Tax holiday, for me? It's 15.05 over 15 weeks averaging 120 miles a week.

http://www.jabberwonk.com/flinker.cfm?cliid=13lkzo

Yeh, that'll help the average American family :rolleyes1 How many jobs will that cumulatively cost coming out of the National highway fund that employees people during the summer for road work?

Horribly sick, the room is spinning as I type this

LuvDuke, I will say, I do NOT want an average stiff running the country... I want the brightest person in the bunch, and, that my friends would be Senator Barack Obama! Smartest one in the room....

If I travel 400 miles per week (estimating high) for 15 weeks, I save a whopping $54.

Gee, thanks Hillary. How much is NAFTA costing the American public in lost jobs? How much of the airwaves have become a monopoly since the Telecommunications Act? How much did Bill make from foreign governments for his influence, pardon me, speeches?

No wonder she's losing.

Sounds like the flu. Take care of yourself.

Btw, we've tried stupid in the WH. It didn't work. ;)

I am with you!!! I just sat there yesterday in amazement watching that spectacle at the gas station. I still will never understand the "I want a person like me to be the president"....I don't.... I want the smartest and best educated person out there, like FDR and JFK. Why oh why is it a crime to have been well educated??? As for the elite stuff...I admire a person who had all of the advantages but then chose to instead of living like a Paris Hilton decided to do good for all with the advantages they were blessed with. How can Hillary have the testes (since it has now been reported that she's got 'em) to claim she is not elite????
Who in their right mind would ever think Hillary is just like me??? As you stated her life is not really like any of us in America...will people not wake up to that fact??? It drives me crazy to think that her gas station antics were effective...just how dumb is America????? Maybe I am being cynical and people were not fooled by her antics but then again some people still think Obama is a Muslim.

Well, if he stops and buys some pork rinds, that should finally dispel the still widely held notion amongst some of the best and brightest (after all, HRC said that he was not a Muslim, as far as she knew) of the electorate that he is a Muslim, since Muslims do not eat pork.

You know, such an action might be cause for a breaking news flash with on-the-spot analysis by CNN, MSNBC, Fox, ABC, CBS, NBC et al. And then the next day, the fine upstanding panelists on the morning infotainment shows and The View can rehash it all over again. Just imagine the frequent replay of the opening of the pork rind bag. And then the capper: the Clinton campaign spends the last of its remaining ducats on the ad to beat all ads. It is 3 am in the morning, who do you want answering the phone--Ms. Two-Shots-and-a-Beer-who-never-met-a-pig-she-did-not-like and so does not eat pork rinds-when-she-is-not-lying (oops, mis-speaking)-due to sleep deprivation, or that elitist-pork rind-eating-Harvard man whose just too smart for his own good?

I do too. I will never understand the person who votes for the one they want to have a beer with, that is just stupid. After 8 years of the idiot Bush you would think voters would want the intelligent candidate.

Saw Obama and Michelle on The Today show, it was really sweet seeing her defend him. I will have to watch the full interview on Sat. I would guess they didn't say anything shocking or we would have seen that clip this morning. Michelle refused to say that she felt betrayed by Wright, she said let's move on to what's really important, like helping our children.

They are going to play a little bit more tonight on Countdown I believe.

HAH! They didn't even know if she has a valid driver's license LOL :lmao:

Chris, I hope you are feeling better. I only saw a few minutes of KO last night, and I did not see the full sequence. He was talking with Eugene Robinson of the Washington Post about Wright and Obama. The gist of it was that Obama has said what he has to say and who knows what effect it may have. Sorry I can't provide a more detailed report. Did anyone else catch KO last night?

I saw parts of Countdown which led off with a story saying that SDs have basically decided already...which they alluded to as good news for Obama. I was chasing my son around to get him in the bath at that time so I missed some of that piece. I was hoping maybe someone had seen that part. I saw a bit with Eugene Robinson...he and Keith were basically saying how they too did not understand why people do not want an intellectual president, with KO saying something along the lines of ,"I want them to be so much smarter than me that it hurts."

WASHINGTON - A leader of the Democratic Party under Bill Clinton has switched his allegiance to Barack Obama and is encouraging fellow Democrats to "heal the rift in our party" and unite behind the Illinois senator.

Joe Andrew, who was Democratic National Committee chairman from 1999-2001, planned a news conference Thursday in his hometown of Indianapolis to urge other Hoosiers to support Obama in Tuesday's primary, perhaps the most important contest left in the White House race. He also has written a lengthy letter explaining his decision that he plans to send to other superdelegates.

"I am convinced that the primary process has devolved to the point that it's now bad for the Democratic Party," Andrew said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press.

Bill Clinton appointed Andrew chairman of the DNC near the end of his presidency, and Andrew endorsed the former first lady last year on the day she declared her candidacy for the White House.

Andrew said in his letter that he is switching his support because "a vote for Hillary Clinton is a vote to continue this process, and a vote to continue this process is a vote that assists (Republican) John McCain."

"While I was hopeful that a long, contested primary season would invigorate our party, the polls show that the tone and temperature of the race is now hurting us," Andrew wrote. "John McCain, without doing much of anything, is now competitive against both of our remaining candidates. We are doing his work for him and distracting Americans from the issues that really affect all of our lives."

Andrew said the Obama campaign never asked him to switch his support, but he decided to do so after watching Obama's handling of two issues in recent days. He said Obama took the principled stand in opposing a summer gas tax holiday that both Clinton and McCain supported, even though it would have been easier politically to back it. And he said he was impressed with Obama's handling of the controversy surrounding his former pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright.

Wright's outspoken criticisms of the United States have threatened Obama's candidacy. Obama initially refused to denounce his former pastor, but he did so this week after Wright suggested that Obama secretly agrees with him.

"He has shown such mettle under fire," Andrew said in the interview. "The Jeremiah Wright controversy just reconfirmed for me, just as the gas tax controversy confirmed for me, that he is the right candidate for our party."

Andrew's decision puts Obama closer to closing Clinton's superdelegate lead. Clinton had a big advantage among superdelegates, many of whom like Andrews have ties to the Clintons and backed her candidacy early on. But most of the superdelegates taking sides recently have gone for Obama, who has won more state contests.

Obama now trails her by just 19 superdelegates, 244-263. This week, he picked up eight superdelegates while she netted three.

Superdelegates are nearly 800 elected leaders and Democratic Party officials who aren't bound by the outcome of state contests and can cast their ballot for any candidate at the national convention. They are especially valuable in this race since neither Clinton nor Obama can win enough pledged delegates to secure the nomination through state-by-state elections.

Obama now leads in the delegate count overall 1732.5 to 1597.5 for Clinton. A candidate needs 2,025 delegates to win the nomination. About 230 superdelegates remain undecided, and about 60 more will be selected at state party conventions and meetings throughout the spring.

Other party leaders are encouraging superdelegates to pick a side by late June to prevent the fight from going to the national convention in August. Andrews wrote in his letter that he is calling for "fellow superdelegates across the nation to heal the rift in our party and unite behind Barack Obama."

It's the second endorsement for Obama this week that could be influential in Indiana. Rep. Baron Hill, who represents a crucial swing district in the state, endorsed Obama on Wednesday. Clinton has the backing of Indiana Sen. Evan Bayh, who has a vast organization in the state and has been campaigning aggressively with the former first lady.

Obama and Clinton are running close in Indiana and both need a victory there — Obama to help rebound from a loss to Clinton in Pennsylvania and to prove he can win Midwestern voters and Clinton so she can overcome Obama's lead in the race overall.

Great news. Come on Supers!

Well, I just did the calculation. I would save a whopping---get ready for it--$2.76. That piddly sum won't even buy me a latte at the neighborhood coffee house--let alone Starbucks. And since the current price of the gas I buy is $3.61, I can't even buy a gallon of gas with my huge chunk of change. I say thanks but no thanks to HRC's latest pandering and political posturing.
