November 9, 2008 4 day Wonder- who's in?

Maybe it was because it was our first time without the kids and I didn't know what to do with myself or someone at work said I should have gone on royal caribbean. Looking forward to giving it another go. My kids are really looking forward to it. Especially my ds12 who is never full (growing teenage boy!!) . He is looking forward to all the great food!!!

I have been on a Carnival Cruise to Bahamas before with my DH but my kids have never been on a cruise. I don't know why, but I didn't care for cruising. Others I know love it. Some friends at work would rather go on cruise than anything else. What am I doing wrong??:confused3 I think part of it was that DH and I are not real partiers or really outgoing to go and mingle with strangers so we sort of kept to ourselves. I felt like all we did was go from one meal to the next. I know this time it will be much different since we will have our kids with us and all our family and of course because its DISNEY:dance3: :lovestruc :dance3: :cheer2: :cheer2:

It might be the cruise line wasn't right for you, or the destinations not very exciting, too. I know what you mean, though. On our cruise DH and I probably got a little tired of each other by day 6, LOL. We didn't know anyone else, and didn't have traditional dining where we sat with the same couples every night. So on this cruise, that will be different. That said, we loved the different ports, and seeing something new all the time. One thing that "sold" us on DCL was looking at the Navigators and seeing SO MUCH for just adults to do! We really enjoyed just adult time on our cruise. This seemed like it would give us the best of both worlds. The kids can be in the clubs as much or as little as they want- we can have an adult only pool and Cove Cafe to be kid-free- and have fun stuff like martini tasting or galley tours. Plus lots of fun things to do with our kids. We enjoyed our cruise on Princess, but at least on that itinerary/ship, there weren't a lot of activities that our kids would enjoy as much as we did, other than excursions. I'd like to try Royal Caribbean maybe when the kids are older, or one of the new Princess ships then. But for the next 2 years Disney is our choice!!!!:yay:

What is everybody thinking about doing for the excursion for Nassau... I've looked and just not really interested in any of them, except the Harbor Cruise?

what is everybody else's thoughts?

Hi everyone,
I was thinking of doing the Altanis adventure again. We did it last year and had a blast. The day we were there Hurricane Noelle was fast approaching the island and the beach was actually closed. We did the dolphin encounter at atlantis, it was amazing. The dolphins that they had there, were from New Orleans and were the ones that were rescued. Our dolphin had a baby, my DD was only 3 years old and kept asking to take it home with us.
I changed our post nights to the Animal Kingdom lodge, has anyone heard anything about it? The Poly was so expenses I just couldn't justify the expense.

I have stayed at the Animal Kingdom Lodge and it was wonderful! It is especially great for kids. It's one of our favorites.

As far as Nassau, we are planning on getting rooms at Atlantis so we can use the facilities.

Hurray!!!!!

We are booked on this cruise to.
3rd cruise, and this is going to be the vacation to top it all off.

How much is a room at the Atlantis? And how many people can be under the same room? Just wondering if it is worth doing it as well. Last time I was at Nassau we walked through the Atlantis and played in the casino, but was unable to use any of the facilities... just wondering?

We are going with my sister's family too, and thought if we can all use the same room # maybe it would be worth it.

Welcome Caligirl2000 looking forward to hearing your thoughts and ideas regarding this fabulous vacation that is 7 months away!

Right now you can get a room for $290. There are sometimes deals out there to get a lower rate. Only 4 people can be under one room, though. We are going with our best friends so we will have to get 2 rooms.

Welcome Caligirl! :cheer2: Glad you found us. Is this your 3rd Disney cruise or just your 3rd cruise? How many of you will be in your group?

Read along and jump right in!

Okay!! Who's in for this cruise? I know it's pretty early... but I'm excited! It's my first DCL cruise and the first one with my kids... DD will be 11, and DS will be 8. :woohoo:

We'll be doing the land/sea package, staying 3 days before (currently at the Caribbean Beach, but maybe we'll switch to Port Orleans) and 3 or 4 days after the cruise as well.

Christine

Hello!!! I'm so happy to find this thread. We made our reservations about a week ago. I just ordered my passporter. This is my first cruise so I'm very excited.

Welcome allboyz and Caligirl!

I have to ask what is the passporter? Do you order it from Disney?

Hope everyone is having a great day.

Thank you for the warm welcome. The passporter is this must-have (according to the posters in general cruise discussion) detailed book regarding the cruise. I know I kept seeing people discuss the passporter and i wondered what they were talking about. Anyway, you have to order it online. Barnes and Noble has it on their website but it costs more than Amazon. Amazon has it for $12.89(total of $16-something after standard shipping) . Barnes and Noble (actual store..not website) has the one for Disney World but not for the cruise. Anyway, I will let you all know if it is worth the hype once I get it. The amt of stars for previous editions and the new edition (just released) suggests that it is. :)

I ordered the Passporter from their website, passporter.com. If you sign up for their newsletter you get a discount on buying it, and previous customers continue to get discounts on future versions. I got both the Passporter for WDW and the Deluxe refillable version for DCL since I know there will be more DCL cruises in our future!! That way it can be updated with remove/replace pages for new ports, excursions, etc. I have been really enjoying reading them. It has everything like phone numbers, etc all inside. It has pockets for you to keep receipts, etc in for each day, as well as to jot down memories of each day or plans you need to keep track of for the day (say dining reservations...). Certainly some of the information can be learned from the DIS but this is all in one spot. I can't drag my DH over to the computer each time I want to talk about dining- but he can read the reviews in the Passporter and give me some input. The WDW version has full maps of each park, as well as the resort hotels. I'm diggin' it!

Christine

My passporter arrived today. I did not know about the deluxe version so I just have the regular version. Perhaps I will get the deluxe version before our next cruise. :rotfl: I haven't been on my first cruise yet and I'm already planning for the next one. :rotfl:

How's the new passporter???:confused3 I bought one for my disney trip but I had already been 3 times and had done a ton of research and read other books so I didn't find any new info in it. I was thinking of ordering the passporter for this cruise since we are new to cruising. What do you think of it??

Welcome aboard allboyz!!:dance3: How many people are coming in your party? Do you have sons coming with you on the cruise? Just a guess from your name.

Thank you for the warm welcome! :) Yes, I have 3 sons that will be with us. They will be 14,10 and 7 at the time of the cruise.

I honestly can't answer your question regarding the passporter yet. I just got it yesterday. I flipped through it a bit but I was too tired last night to really read it. Today my middle son has a 2 hr soccer practice so I plan to take it with me. I will post about it later. I can't wait until the cruise!

So who else has a stay at WDW as well as the cruise? Let's see where everyone will be staying and when.

Pixie's Family will be at:
Port Orleans Riverside 11/6-11/9
DTD Doubletree 11/13-11/16

:dance3: 10 days o' Disney!

I'm not sure yet! LOL At first we were saying NO because we are already spending so much on the cruise. However, now I'm thinking it would be VERY difficult to be that close to Disney and not go. LOL Then I played around with maybe going to Seaworld and Universal Studios instead (we have never been there) but I think I would still regret not going to Disney. We don't have enough time to do all of it (we are taking the kids out of school and don't want them to miss too many days). I told my oldest son today that I might go ahead and hold the hotel room at Shades of Green (hotel inside Disney property for military..across from Poly) in case we do decide to go to Disney for two or three days before the cruise. They are booked early so I think I'm going to do that tomorrow. Oh and another reason I want to go to Disney is that I found out that weekend prior to the cruise is Super Soap Weekend. Many ABC Daytime soap stars will be there. LOL I have always wanted to go to that but have never had an opportunity. So if I were a betting person I would bet on us staying at :

Shades of Green 11/6-11/9 LOL

*If I'm able to find some inexpensive plane tickets that would make it much easier because I would not have to worry about the two days (one day each way) of travel.

The Charming family and our friends will be staying at:

The Polynesian 11/5-9

Just a few more weeks till ADR time!!
