November 9, 2008 4 day Wonder- who's in?

Christine, I'm with you on the planning dining thing. The only adr I make is for the character meals. Thats why the meal plan doesn't appeal to me. I would be stresses about every meal. I like to go with the flow when I am on vacation...I hate being commando mom. Its hard enought trying to fit everything in. Good luck to those of you planning ressies...hats off to ya!!:worship:

On our previous trips, the only ADR we made was for character dining. But that was pre-DDP! Now, I hear it's almost impossible to walk up and get a table service meal without a reservation. :scared1: I don't want to always eat burgers or pizza! But maybe we'll make Boma and Ohana's our post cruise ADRs... would love the Ohana character breakfast since DS is a HUGE Stitch fan! I'm not sure I can talk DH into 2 character meals, though. I'm sure we won't be back to WDW for a few years at least, so I do want to make the most of things I think we'd really enjoy.

My biggest concern with ADRs is having to be "done" with a certain activity, etc at a set reservation time. I don't want to always have to plan which park to do each day, because of weather, tiredness, etc. I'm a winging-it kinda gal!

I am. Ironically, I have two girls 4 and 6 as well. Hee, he, he.

Dognut, I see you are from Southern California. Whereabouts do you live? Caligirl, are you SoCal too? We live in Devore- small town at the base of the Cajon Pass.

Christine

Well I called for my ADR yesterday, and actually got everything. I was really stressed about CRT but even that was no problem. Hope everyone else got what they were looking for. When is the Super Soap weekend again? Do they go to all the parks on just MGM?

Has anyone tried a Dole Whip? I keep reading about it and have never even seen it.

With all the planning of the ADR's I keep forgetting about the cruise. That is why this is such a perfect trip. Does everyone have their rooms assigned on the ship yet? Palo's? I can hardly wait, is anyone esle trying to lose a little weight before the trip?

Hope everyone is well
Jenn

Mmm, mmm- Dole Whips!! We get them all the time at DL. I actually prefer the Dole Whip Float, which is a regular dole Whip in pineapple juice  You've gotta be the sort of person who likes pineapple, though! We were at DL a couple weeks ago, and these teenage boys were in line behind me. One boy had never had a Whip, and kept telling the other two, "come on! The line's too long! Let's go get a cookie!" and the other boys were like NO WAY! We got to talking, and the one boy mentioned that outside of DL and WDW, the only other place you can get a Dole Whip is on the Dole Plantation in Oahu. I forgot about that! Been there too.

SSW is a big, um, disaster right about now. Usually it's the 2nd weekend (8th/9th this year) so lots of people booked that. Then non-Disney sites started saying it's going to be the 15/16th. So lots of people are trying to change ressies, etc. WDW still has not officially said anything- well, how could they, when the stinking November hours aren't even up? Arrgg. I plan to try to hit one day of SSW, either way. :confused3 It just makes a difference because I want to make an ADR for that day. It's just at DHS. But most people are thinking, Osborne Lights should be up the weekend of 15th/16th since the MVMCP started earlier in the week- but how will that work with the crowds already at SSW? I was hoping to catch Osborne Lights as well. Sigh, we'll see. I'm sure it will all be great no matter what!

We have a SPH room for this cruise- 5020. We're so excited!! I think it'll be a great way to see if we really want an oceanview, inside, or balcony (since DH and I had a balcony on our Princess cruise in November) on our '09 7 day Magic. We actually have a SPH room booked for that one too!

And oh YEAH am I trying to lose a little weight! I have about 15 to go.

Christine

Hi Christine and Jenn,
I am also trying to lose weight before the cruise. I am following sparkpeople.com which has worked well in the past but it just seems like I keep slipping up. I've lost my mojo. I was doing so well (lost 35lb so far) and the longest I have gone lately without screwing up is 6 days. I need to get with it. I was wondering if you guys wanted to start our own challenge with weekly weigh ins to keep us honest. You don't have to tell your weight just weither your up or down that week. :woohoo: Anybody interested. I could sure use some help.:confused3

Colleen,

35 pounds is awesome! Wow, good for you!!!!

I'd be happy to. I'm doing a weekly team weigh in thing at work- but only have 3 weeks left to go on that. I did great the first few weeks, but 2 weeks ago I showed up a pound (when my scale at home showed down 2, which was really disheartening) and this last week I stayed the same. So I'm down 8 but have 15 to go. I know from having done this before (ahem) that the last 7 or 8 are killers to get off. I could also use encouragement to exercise! It helps me a lot, and in crazy busy weeks I don't get to it.

Christine

This is exactly what I need. It is hard to do it on your own, when the only person you answer to is the dreaded scale. I need the incentive to stay on track. I am like you, I am great for a day on two, then the bottom drops out. The sour Jubejubes call to me in the middle of the night (I believe they should be a food group.)

That is amazing that you have already lost 35 pounds. I am going to start the Martha's Vineyard diet detox on Monday. I have been quite sick with the flu/cold for about 2 weeks so hopefully this will get me on track.

Count me in
Jenn:cheer2:

Wow!! Thanks for the support. You guys rock! I had to laugh at the jubejube food group. My weakness is sweets but mostly cookies and cakes. I was really good only allowing myself 1 pack of thinsation cookies (100cal) after dinner with my tea. Lately its been anything goes. Christmas sort of ruined my streak. I gained back 10 lb over 4 months...yikes!! So I had lost 45!!!

So do you want to start now or wait until after mothers day?? Start fresh Monday?

I vote for Monday, if that is okay. Starting always seems better on a Monday, unless it is a long weekend. I can think of a million excuses not to start, but now I have a support group to keep me on track.
This is funny after spending all week worrying about where we were going to eat during the whole trip, oh and the cruise don't even get me started. We were very good last year about not eating to much. We always took the stairs and never to the elevator. I think the only day we had lunch was the first day when we boarded the ship.
Is everyone taking the magic express to the ship, or your own transportation. Last year we took the ME bus, it left the AK at noon. I am not sure if the one from the hotel leaves any earlier. It is nice to be on the ship and "wonder around" before you sail.

Well ladies, here is to a successful adventure.
Jenn

Monday is good for me as well!

I want to be at a comfortable weight- especially by the cruise! I want to enjoy everything and deny myself nothing while onboard! If I gain some during those days, so be it. Although on my 7 day cruise in Nov. I only gained a pound or so. I tried everything, but made sure to always leave some on my plate.

But they didn't have Konk Koolers or Mickey Bars!!! :rotfl:

My downfall is fast food. Sometimes in the craziness of running kids to one activity then another, or meetings for me, we just "pick up something" and ya know, it's never a salad! HAHA!! I really prefer the salads I make at home.
Christine

Sorry Ladies, I went to lay down for a bit. I have a nasty cold with a low grade fever and aches. Thankfully I am on vacation this week and I don't have to worry about missing work. We are so busy at work I would feel really guilty staying home. Although it is a double edge sword because if you go in to work sick they get mad. Oh well. I am so happy that we have our little weight loss team. This is exactly what I need to get back (and stay) on track. Its funny when I loose weight it comes off 1 lb a week but jumps back on 2 at a time...how is that fair??:rotfl2:

What great ideas about taking the stairs and leaving food on your plate. I also read somewhere that 3 times around deck 4 is a mile (I think). I hope to have time to do that some day when my dh has the boys at the pool. Ideally it would be great to do in the morning before they get up so that I can have my shower etc...but realistically...its my vacation and I am not a morning person at the best of times.

I was still watching what I ate in Nov when we went to disney and made the mistake of trying a mickey bar...OMG. YUM but 330 cal 30 g of fat!!(I think it was around that. I tried to do a google search for the calorie count but couldn't find it)

I read somewhere that the sugar free desserts on the wonder are just by request and aren't out at the buffet. Is this true? OUr last carnaval cruise I gained 2 lb but did enjoy my meals with a sugar free dessert. They were out with the regular desserts just labelled.

Here's to Skinny Mondays!! I work 4 12hr night shifts and when I am done my legs hold a bit of water. I will weigh in a couple of days after my last shift. Just incase you think I'm MIA. Somedays I will not have a chance to check in because its too busy at work. But I will on my days off.

...and they're off to the races!!!

What's the Martha's Vineyard diet detox? Tell me more about it. I need to do some sort of detox- I know I am carrying around lots of water and junk.

Hope you both are feeling better! I will weigh in tomorrow. Like Colleen, I am on my feet all day as a 3rd grade teacher. I rarely sit, and so I do get some water gain and heaviness in my legs. Surely not as much as a nurse, though!

Christine

Hello Ladies,
I am up 1.5 lb from last week. Haven't been drinking my water this week since I've been sick. This is where I will start my weight from.

After yearsssss of dieting I finally realize that they don't work. You need a long term plan with lifestyle changes. Here are a few secrets I have learned from sparkpeople.com.

#1 Write (or log in on a food tracker) everything you eat down, good and bad. This helps you to stay honest. If you feel like you have screwed up this could lead to a binge. Be accountable!!

#2 Drink 2-3 L of water a day. Helps you from retaining water.

#3 Move...walk, dance, bike, work out. Even if you don't have time to go for a long walk 10 min will be better than nothing. Park farthest spot away not closest.

#4 Use smaller plates and bowls. Wow does this ever work. You feel like you are getting more because your plate if full.

#5 Eat less refined carbs (cookies, crackers, etc with low or no fibre). Try to eat things with 3 g of fibre or more. Helps slow down the sugar rush that just leaves you craving more. If you do have cookies etc eat it will a meal...I find that when mixed with the protein and fat from dinner it slows it down as well.

Heres to a week of healthy changes!!!
Let go girls!!

Colleen

OK Ladies. I am doing terrible. No on track...not even close. Still feeling sick with this cold so I am hoping onces I am feeling better I will be more motivated. Also thinking of joining curves.

How is your week going??;)

I'm sorry that your week is going poorly! :sad1: I have stayed the same. No gain, but no loss. Fooey. I've eaten well this week, but haven't exercised at all. I have been way too busy after school, and not wanting to get up in the morning and run early. I am not a morning person!!! I need to get back on track.

Have you ever joined Curves before?

Christine

Christine,
I haven't tried curves before have you?? I was doing alot of walking but my foot got screwed up from some badly made orthotics. Just waiting for things to settle down. I have had another pair made. My foot has been a terrible pain. Its all I can do to make it thru my shifts. As it is I have to tape my foot for extra support. I thought while I was waiting for it to mend I could at least burn some more calories. I realize that eating right is only half of the solution when it comes to weight loss.

Happy to hear that you are having a good week. I am finally starting to feel like myself ... just more tired.

Take Care.
ttyl

Colleen,

How's the foot? Jenn, how's the week been? This week has been better. I logged about 9 miles of walking on Wednesday so that showed up as -2.0 at my weigh in at work on Friday. woohooo!! So now I'm officially down about 10 pounds. Every time I think about snacking at night, I think about being in a bathing suit at Castaway Cay!!! And how I'd like to feel just a wee bit more comfortable. :rolleyes1

I got a really good pedometer (not a cheapy like I've tried before) and it's helped me quite a bit.

I agree, eating is only half the battle. I've got to exercise more if I want to see any results.

Christine

Anyone who is staying at WDW pre- or post- cruise, have you made your ADRs? I am so frustrated with the November hours not being posted yet. I am not the mega-planner, but I do need to know what parks have EMHs etc. And how late they are open! Arrrggghh. I went ahead and made reservations, hopefully don't have to change any of them.

Hello everyone! I am new here - found you by googling disney cruise info - looks like a great place so I thought I would join in.

I am going on the November 9th cruise on the Wonder with all of you! This will be the first cruise for myself, my husband and two teenage boys. My sister-in-law actually booked this cruise for the whole family so I will be joined by my in-laws, sister-in-law, husband and two children and brother-in-law, wife and two boys. Traveling with me will be my husband and my 14 & 15 year old boys. We are flying in the day before and staying at the Radisson at the Port - we are getting a rental, once on-board we will be staying in cabin #6552. We are looking at taking a historical tour of Nassau and then snorkling in Castaway Cay. After the cruise we are spending 3 nights at the Boardwalk villas. My husband is going to call tomorrow to book our ADR's - we always spend every night at Epcot and he has already planned out our days based on what we like to do and we are going to avoid the Studios since it will be Soap Opera Weekend.

I am sorry this was so long - I just wanted to say Hi and let you know I would be on the cruise with all of you. Look forward to reading more about everyone's plans.

Have a great day!

Dawn
