Nov. 28, 2009 Western - Post Thanksgiving Relaxation Cruise

Oh, and I forgot to add. I am still lost as to what I'm going to do "excursion" wise. I really don't see myself doing any of the DCL excusion stuff (it's been driven into my head cruising RC that the cruiseline excursins are overpriced)...but I do want to do some beaches...etc. In Key West I got some Flounders time and I think Matt and I will go to some shops/bars...and get Key Lime pie on a stick.
What's everyone else planning at the ports????

I've been reading trip reports pretty mych all day every day....lol...(yes, neglecting housework...and tending to the sick self/kiddo here and there) and I've seen some fun ideas....I just don't know what we will do....

YAY for the GTYK...I'm going to do it in a few...Have to feed the little...

My answers:

Do you like living where you live? (and remind us again where that is?) Vermont and not so much. It's the least of the evils as far as where I can live that's close to the rest of my family. If I could move my entire extended family it'd be to N. CA or AZ. Hubby MUST live near a ski mtn.

What's your ultimate vacation?
Part of me wishes I could go to Hawaii but part of me thinks it would ruin me. When I was a kid and we returned home from our first WDW vacation I would fall asleep every night and wish I'd wake back up at Disney. I feel Hawaii may be the adult equivalent for me and my life would never feel satisfying again unless I moved there :rotfl2:

Favorite weekend activity?
Sleeping in. In the summer I love biking with the family, hanging out on the statehouse lawn playing frisbee. In the winter I like to snowboard or snowshoe. I miss the ocean and wish I could go sailing every weekend.

Worst pet peeves?
Someone chewing with his/her mouth open. I hate it when furniture is moved even a few inches from where it should be making the angles funny. I hate it when friends leave voicemail on my phone telling me they called and to call them. That's what caller ID is for. I have very particular ways I like the dishwasher loaded. I'm relatively neurotic.

If you could have lunch with someone famous who would it be?
David Sedaris

Favorite city?
Detroit. Everyone thinks I'm crazy but it is such a beautiful city. So worn down and sad but sooooo beautiful. There are so many awesome GOOD people there.

Favorite drink? (Alcohol if that's your thing--or not if it's not.)
Beer or tequila. I am a freak for good french roast coffee.

Favorite and least favorite holidays?
Thanksgiving is my favorite and Halloween is my least favorite.

Are you a morning person?
No no no. I would be happy if I could stay up till 2 am every day and sleep until noon.

Are you a Disney nut?
Yes 100%
Some Disney questions:

Favorite Park?
Magic Kingdom hands down, but I also love Animal Kingdom.
Favorite resort?
I fell in love with AKL and we're about to stay there for the first time. Can't wait.
Favorite restaurant?
Boma (so far!) I love the Crystal Palace too.
Favorite ride?
Splash Mountain but it's always closed when we go. Soarin' is a close 2nd.
Favorite Character?
Tigger but any Pooh Characters really.

I'll fill in what I can before I'm forced to go back to work. :goodvibes

Do you like living where you live? (and remind us again where that is?)
New Jersey - And yes I do like the state. Not sure I like the town or the state politics but Jersey is an attitude that can't be replicated. The state has some incredibly beautiful parts and we like it when the tourists stay away from them. :goodvibes

What's your ultimate vacation?
Not sure I have an ultimate but I do love to travel. I'd like to take the family to Europe. I love Europe and want to share. But I guess if I had to pick an ultimate vacation it would be a visit to Disney parks around the world. :goodvibes

Favorite weekend activity?
Hanging with my family and it doesn't matter what we're doing.

Worst pet peeves?
If I listed them all no one would speak to me at the cruise meet. :rotfl2: So I'll just list my big one. I can't stand listening to people clip their nails in public places. I have no problem listening to family members do it at home or when I'm at a nail salon. But nothing creeps me out more than someone clipping their nails behind me on the train or at work. I swear those nails are going to fly into my hair or something. Oh yeah, and loud phone talkers on the train. Dude, you're not the only one on the train. Shut up because no one on the train really cares about your personal life. :headache:

If you could have lunch with someone famous who would it be?
Roy Disney

Favorite city?
New York City

Favorite drink? (Alcohol if that's your thing--or not if it's not.)
Iced Coffee

Favorite and least favorite holidays?
Christmas is the favorite. And 4th of July the least because of my psycho neighbor. I always try to schedule a vacation over the 4th. :goodvibes

Are you a morning person?
Yep. Up at 4:30 in the morning so yes I'm a morning person.

Are you a Disney nut? Yes.

Some Disney questions:

Favorite Park? Magic Kingdom
Favorite resort? Fort Wilderness Campground
Favorite restaurant? Chef Mickey even though the food isn't that great.
Favorite ride? Not sure I have a favorite but DD loves Splash Mountain and I love to go on it with her.
Favorite Character? Eeyore

Phew, got that done before I have to schlepp to my meeting.

We (me, Jill, DH, Lee and 3 girls - Samantha (11), Lauren (9), and Kaitlyn (6 almost) are so excited! It's less than 20 days! Who's got a packing list to share? :yay::yay::yay:

His name is Jim Alderton.

Hubby and I are from Illinois however for nearly three years now he's been living in California. I'm hoping to eventually get out there in the next couple of years once the housing market turns around and we sell our house.

wow that must be tough

you must be really looking forward to this trip

does anyone know if there are specific rules for the FE

I noticed that there are adult names on the list - but i am only putting thinds together for the kids

is that alright:confused3

We are packed and ready to go. Just finishing up FE gifts. Fish extender came in mail today. I even remembered to get the underwater cameras here so I don't have to pay $18. I can't think of anything else we could possibly need.

I hate to wish time away, because it really goes fast enough anyway, but I wish today was Thanksgiving.:cheer2:

Do you like living where you live? (and remind us again where that is?)
Illinois. Yes, I like living here, maybe not the particular city that I'm living in, but I do like to have the change of seasons and I do prefer the cooler weather. Hubby lives in Irvine and I love that city. Much too expensive to move to though so once I finally move out there we'll have to find something with a comparable feel, but more affordable.

What's your ultimate vacation?
I would really love to do the Adventures by Disney tours of Germany, the Alps and Alaska.

Favorite weekend activity?
Reading a book ... uniterrupted.

Worst pet peeves?
I agree with Eeyore'sthebest and have to say the sound of nail clippers. I also do not like the feel of them being used on myself ... I prefer to have my nails filed. What makes this even worse is the fact that I work for a foot doctor so I hear this noise day in and day out!

If you could have lunch with someone famous who would it be?
Ugh, this is tough. I guess it would have to be my favorite author, Jen Lancaster.

Favorite city?
Chicago

Favorite drink? (Alcohol if that's your thing--or not if it's not.)
Dr. Pepper or unsweetened iced tea

Favorite and least favorite holidays?
Favorite holiday - Easter, because I was born on Easter Sunday! Least favorite - Halloween.

Are you a morning person?
Yes. I believe it is physically impossible for me to sleep in.

Are you a Disney nut?
Oh, yes. Hubby and I were married in WDW, honeymooned there and visit a minimum of once to twice a year.

Some Disney questions:

Favorite Park?
Disney's Animal Kingdom

Favorite resort?
Wilderness Lodge

Favorite restaurant?
Mama Melrose

Favorite ride?
Kilamanjaro Safari

Favorite Character?
Pluto

I have a small family gift that everyone gets that is specific to NJ, where we're from. I also have a bag for each child. However, I am getting completely separate gifts for adults-only staterooms. I really don't think they want the kid stuff that I bought. If a stateroom has kids in it then they won't get the adult gifts. Make sense?

Hi Jill - we have two of our girls the same age. You should consider coming to the cruisemeet so the girls can meet. I have a DD11 who will be in Ocean Quest and a DD nearly six who will be in the Oceaneer's Club.

Meet is at 2:45 p.m. on day one in the Promenade Lounge. If you want to come, just PM me with the info on everyone who will be there and your home state/province. I'll be sending out a list mid week.

Girls seem to be the prevelent gender on this cruise! My little one will need a friend in the club too! Hope you join us for the meet! Glad you found us!

Shelley

Welcome Jill! Lots of girls on this trip!! :thumbsup2

Okay, 2 weeks from tomorrow we leave. :cool1::cool1::cool1: I can't wait. I have a feeling that the 5 pounds I wanted to lose before the cruise aren't going anywhere :headache: so I just want to start the vacation. Then I won't feel so bad when I have a little snack. :rolleyes1 :goodvibes

Do you like living where you live? (and remind us again where that is?)
Connecticut. I like it enough. I've only lived here, so I don't have much to compare it to. It's expensive (or so they say) to live here...but again...since I've only lived here...I have nothing to compare it to...and everything is relative. I like the fall here, but the weather can be a little strange sometimes...seems like we have such short springs/falls...which are my fav's. The reason we'll prolly never leave here?? FAMILY. All (well cept Jen and her clan who flew the coup...hehe...but they are a 4 hr drive away) of our family (and friends) live here, and I can't imagine leaving them.

What's your ultimate vacation?
I LOVE cruises. I like that I don't have to plan things...and I don't have to worry about food etc. I like that it's pretty inclusive. I just wish they would go ahead and lump the gratuity into the cruise price...cause that is a large chunch of change when you have a family of 5. I would also like to go to Hawaii...and a cruise to Hawaii would be amazing. Basically though....I like to travel anywhere...so ANY vacation is ultimate...hehe

Favorite weekend activity?
I love that Matt is home, and he can get up with the kiddo's. We generally have a B-day party or some other thing on Saturday's...but if we are free I like to go to the park/off on a walk with the family. I also enjoy going to my parents house for dinner on Sunday's. Ahhhh...a meal I don't have to cook!

Worst pet peeves?
When someone says they are going to do something, and they don't follow through
.

If you could have lunch with someone famous who would it be?
Uh....I dunno. I'll get back to you on this one...lol...

Favorite city?
I like NY....but I will admit I'm a little intimidated by going without someone with knowledge of how to get around. We went to see the filming of Live with REgis and Kelly a few years ago...and I'd enjoy going back for something like that again.

Favorite drink? (Alcohol if that's your thing--or not if it's not.)
Margarita!!!! BUT...only if it's made with homemade/decent sour mix!

Favorite and least favorite holidays?
Christmas--fav..but I hate how the season runs...with hype and comotion...and then bam...ends. Least fav?? Uhhh...I like em all?

Are you a morning person?
No. I hate waking up early...and I think I need about 9 hrs to function well...but once I'm up...I'm up...and I deal with it...It might not be pretty for the people that wake me up for the first few minutes.

Are you a Disney nut?
LOVE the Dis

Some Disney questions:

Favorite Park?
Magic Kingdom
Favorite resort?
I loved Dixie Landings when we stayed there....I haven't seen em all...so I can't really pick a fav. I love that they are all different.
Favorite restaurant?
??
Favorite ride?
Splash Mountain but it's always closed when we go. <--- Ditto
Favorite Character?
I like the Minnnie and Mikey traditional character. Says DISNEY to me...but I also like Pooh and clan--piglet would be my fav

Hey Jill

glad to hear from you

the people on this site and our shipmates are a wonderful bunch:hug:

we won't be at the meet and greet b/c of our arrival time but we are in room 1072 and my middle girl is 12 and my youngest is 9

couple of others for your girls to hang with:yay:

Candy

I know some of the girls have been communicating via email. My daughter has been emailing with two others. If anyone else has an 11 or 12 year old who would like to email with my DD11, just send me a PM and I'll send you her email address. The more "friends" they make before the cruise, the more likely they will be to hook up at the meet and hopefully in Ocean Quest.

I started my pre-cruise diet--NO CARBS-- and am down 5 pounds. I know I wont lose all the weight I want-- but if I can lose 5 more in 2 weeks-p- I will be somewhat happy and be able to eat what I want on the cruise--can't wait for creme brulee!

I'm already low carbs and have been for 2 years. However those 2 little pretzel niblets that I just ate probably don't help. :rolleyes1 I think I'll go get some water. ;)

Do you like living where you live? (and remind us again where that is?)
A suburb of Pittsburgh.
It's a love/hate thing for me. Love our home, love our schools, mostly love Pittsburgh but it is way way way too parochial for me in many ways. City is beautiful, lots to do. Hate the weather. Was meant to live at the beach but it just hasn't happened --- yet.

What's your ultimate vacation?
Tahiti. We love the Hawaiian Islands so much, I would like to try the real South Pacific. Getting our Europe fix next summer with a trip to Greece followed by the DCL Med Cruise.

Favorite weekend activity?
Swim meets with daughter, hanging with the family, going on a date with my wife.

Liars, fake people and hypocrites.
