Nov. 28, 2009 Western - Post Thanksgiving Relaxation Cruise

Hey Allison - Just found out I'm heading to NYC the Monday and Tuesday AFTER our cruise to meet up with a new potential client. What is up with the hotel rates in the city? I can't get ANYTHING decent for under 400 bucks.
Jeff - You do realize it's Christmas time right? Everybody and their brother goes to NYC in December. I work across from Radio City. I swear it is everyone and their brother!!! I hate going outside during the month of December as the crowds are huge. Did you try across the river in Secaucus, Hoboken or Jersey City? You can take the bus or train in for so much less than staying in NYC. And if push comes to shove, I always have a couch!! :thumbsup2

K-- Thanks guys for letting me know I'm on the FE list-- my kids are really looking forward to it :) I checked my email - and nothing. I sent another message to Nessa with my email-- but if anyone else wants to send it to me it is gjstr5@aol.com

Thanks :goodvibes

Yes...but i've been there before around this time of year and never have the rates been THIS high. And while I know that staying in jersey city is cheaper, if I'm coming to NYC, I'm staying in the city. I can't get into the trip in and out plus I need the hotel as my pit stop in between meetings and hook ups with friends. I appreciate the couch offer too! :thumbsup2 I used some points to bring down the price slightly at the W in Times Square so it looks like I'll just bite the bullet and hope this trip scores me some new biz to make it worthwhile.

Glad you got the price reduced but the W in Times Square, geez dude no wonder it was so expensive!! Don't forget to make one last stop at the World of Disney store before they close. They're shutting down at the end of the year!! :sad1:

And I guess the economy is improving if they're able to sell out hotel rooms at those rates. You should consider that a good thing, right?? :goodvibes

Oh - the W was the BEST price I could come up with because I was able to use points to have it reduced. I tried everything from the Affinia Dupont to the Marriott Marquis, the NY Hilton, Sheratons, various Kimpton properties, Crown Plaza, a couple of places in Soho, etc. etc. etc. But I am going to have at least two meetings midtown and one in Soho area so going anywhere too far away from those is not going to work. Didn't know about the World of Disney store. That IS sad. Girls are going to be sad when we come in March for the Big East Tournament as that was a beloved stop.

I just don't think I can wait any longer. I can't hardly contain myself.
Are you guys participating in the FE exchange? I'm so excited that I'm getting my gifts ready before Nessa sends out her list. So I just want to pack bags for your kiddos if you are. :goodvibes Thanks.

Closer to 4? I hope you aren't cutting it too close. Doesn't the ship leave dock at 4?

We were told 4:30

and we booked everything through disney so hopefully they've done their job properly and we make it on time:eek:

we get in to orlando around 2 and then we get shuttled in by them

i am not sure how long the drive takes

It's about 45 minutes from the airport. If you booked through Disney, you'll be fine.

As someone who is anal-rentatively early for EVERYTHING, this gives me heart palpitations. :rotfl2:

And Jeff is obviously correct so don't worry about what I said. My DH and I are always the first people everywhere. He just left 30 minutes early for a dr's appt that is 3 minutes away (with traffic). :rotfl2:

I am with you Allison (and with Jeff too in assuming it will be okay cause disney booked it) but DANG I'd be a ball of nerves. I'm totally neurotic about being on time too (like I'd prefer to be 2 hours early rather than 2 MINUTES late...)

I really think it WILL be okay for you though ackjtal

actually i had planned to spend the evening or tomorrow on the phone with them so that everything was good - so you are not the only one who is a little on the neurotic side:laughing:

good to know:thumbsup2

b/c that means we will be there a little earlier than 4

This comes from the FAQ from DCL official site:

Preparing For Your Cruise
Question:
When can I board the ship? Answer For our Bahamian and Caribbean cruises, check-in registration begins at 10:30 a.m. and embarkation begins at 1:00 p.m. All Guests must board the ship no later than 4:00 p.m. Please plan your arrival accordingly to avoid the possibility of not being permitted to sail with us. For the European and Mediterranean cruises, check-in registration and embarkation typically begins at 10:30 a.m.

That is why I was concerned about you getting there "a little before 4".

If Disney is providing the transportation then the ship has to wait for them to get you there. I am just worried for you if there is some problem with the airplane getting to the airport on time to get the bus. I'm surprised Disney is cutting it that close, too.

Right there with you Allison. Last year we drove down and got there the night before and stayed in Cocoa Beach to make sure we were close enough to get there by 10 am. If I got there that late I would definately be having palpitations. I worry about everything.

Hey

I just read an article that says if you peel onions and put them in a bowl in the rooms in your house you won't get sick:confused3

supposedly the onions have an antibacterial and antiviral agent in them:)

and if you are already sick you are supposed to put the a sliced onion in your socks - it will draw out the poisons:scared1:

anyway i am going to try it - lets hope the dog doesn't eat the onions

While I was sitting in the waiting room waiting for my girls to finish their dental cleanings I was reading a Readers Digest article that stated that eating blueberries, spinach, broccoli and onions all help you to not get the flu. Especially red onions which had the most of the thing that helped your immune system. Thought this was cool and thought I would share. :thumbsup2

ACKJTAL

1. Where do you live? North Bay, Ontario Canada

What a small world ... my uncle lives in North bay, Ontario!!:)

Seriously, is it time to go yet??? While I was home sick (feeling much better now), I packed. :rotfl2: Guess I wasn't too sick. Okay, I'm so busy during the week that any down time needs to be filled. So yesterday I spent all day steaming our clothes. DH had already packed himself so I just had DD and myself. Umm, except for the dress clothes, underwear and toiletries, we're all packed clothing wise. And that includes a bag for the hotel for the first 3 days and the bags for the ship. :rotfl2:

Good thing I'm feeling better. I'd be bored out of my mind. Did you guys know that there is nothing good on daytime television??? Just how much of the View can people tolerate?? :confused3
