Not so great table mates

I truly dont know what scares me more.
If folks are going to annoy me or if I am going to annoy them, I am horrofied to think what people might say about me after reading this thread. talk too much? too little? drink too much? too little?TMI and all that:dance3:

ps we had lovely table mates for our last cruise, we linked from our cruise thread, they werent perfect but I am sure we were not perfect either, I will say though that I enjoyed there company very much.

You join the discussion on the the cruise meets board. See the top of this board's page for a link. Then find your cruise date and start talking with people. Once you find people that you seem to click with you can either ask them right on the thread or pm them. You need their name and stateroom number. Then you call DCL or use your TA and have the reservations linked for dinner. Works great.

Note: You do need to make sure that you all have the same seating time.

Thank you :thumbsup2

The last cruise I did was the EBPC and I went by myself. I left someone from our cruise thread match me up. 4 single women from 30-60 - it was awesome. It is just hard when someone doesn't do dinner when you are traveling alone as you can end up eating by yourself when you are at a small top.

Thanks to my last cruise I am traveling with one of my table mates again this Sept on the Med and TA and sharing a cabin (as it is more economical than having your own). Hopefully we will not kill each other, but will be linking up again with people on our cruise meet thread.
That is so  :thumbsup2

After reading this thread I think I'll request a table for just us :lmao:

Funny, I just mentioned this in my recent TR. On another cruise line we were seated with a table of 8 - all couples. One of the husbands profession was "prophet", and he even had business cards made up. He told everyone their future and everyone but us seemed to be eating it up. Had he been an entertainer, I would have loved it, but he was dead serious that he had a direct hotline with God. Obviously we switched tables for the remainder of the cruise.

Was he able to predict that you would be leaving their table and going somewhere else?
:lmao:

Sorry, but this made me laugh.

I'm with you here Lynne. I've been reading here wondering if I would recognse myself!!!:lmao:
A cruise can be long time to have to sit with people you don't know and have to chat, even if you don't feel like it. We have loved meeting new people and getting to know them, but sometimes just being able to relax and not bother for an odd evening is very nice. We had fantastic tablemates on our PC cruise who were fellow Dis'ers, and apart from each couple's individual Palo dinner evenings we never missed our dinners. We had so much fun.
We have had times on other cruises when others at the table talked the hind legs off a donkey and took so long to eat, on top of getting 2 or more starters, mains etc that I was losing the will to live waiting!:lmao:

this is one of my biggest apprehensions about my upcoming cruise. I'm quite shy with people I don't know and sitting down with strangers and eating a meal is scaring me big time. I'm a thousand times worse if people are really loud and in your face the whole time. I just don't bode well in that kind of situation.

Hopefully it'll be ok. :)

Than I advise you to get a few copies of Keeping Up Appearances :rotfl2:
You will see how others deal with Mrs Bucket pronounced as Bouquet. :thumbsup2

I wonder where the idea came from that on cruise ships everyone likes to be sat with strangers?:confused3 Nowhere else do we usually like to to that do we? It sure can make or break your vacation can't it?:lmao:

Wow - OP here! After all these stories, I will not ever again complain about the boys playing DS at the dinner table! :rolleyes1

For the most part, we always found that if you don't really want to be social to strangers, you don't have to be... We have had some great and some not so great tablemates over the course of our DCL cruises and for the most part, we have always gotten along... It's not like you have to be best friends. The one time it did not work was when we (4 20-somethings) were at a table with 3 couples 40+... We kept to ourselves, were polite but never really clicked.

Our last cruise, the 4 of us had a table for 4 and had a blast with the staff... Praying that for our upcoming trip to the Baltic we might have a similar spot...

I can't help wondering if anyone recognized themselves being discussed here. How awful would that be??!!

I noticed a number of people mentioned table mates that ordered more than one starter or main. Personally I've never done that (haven't had room to) BUT thats a TIP thats been mentioned on the boards more than once. You CAN order more, and there is nothing wrong with that. (IMHO)

As for tablemates, on our previous first two cruises, we travelled as a family of 6 and have never yet had to share a table. Our upcoming cruise, we were put on late dining, and wanted main, so to help that, we linked our resie with another family (whom we have previously cruised with), and I understand that is likely to put our now family of 4 with their family of 4 at one table. I am actually looking very forward to that! Perhaps on our Dream Cruise in 2011, we'll be sitting with Strangers. I'm an adventurer to a point, and I think I will take my chances on Strangers. I love meeting new people, and although there's been lots of not so nice experiences written about in this thread, I'm sure, those times happen much less frequently than the pleasant experiences that cruisers experience as well. I know sitting with strangers for a meal is not everyones cup of tea (DH is likely in that boat), but me, I'll take the experience, knowing if things really are horrible, I can have some changes made.:)

Oh indeed, enjoy the food you want to eat. One dinner on a cruise last September we all fancied all the desserts, so we chose our own and a good selection of the other to share. Oh my, I'm such a dessert person!!!:lmao:

Thats the thing, I LOVE to meet new people:confused3 the idea worries my mum, but Len and I love it, :chat::chat::chat:

My DH doesn't like the idea of being with others either. He feels more comfortable with just our family, & I think I would too. It seems like if we go to a function where you sit at big tables with other couples we either get put with the ones who never say anything even speak to you or the couple who have already had way too many drinks before they ever get to the table.

I keep reading this thread, looking for a story that starts out with "there were these two sisters...." :)

We are actully great tablemates but there was a time where one of us might have had to many pre dinner martinis....
