I live in a neighborhood where I think some of the people are afraid of the dark - they have the lights on outside their houses all night long. It washes out the really good viewing opportunities.![]()

I'm disappointed! I heard about this and went out a few times to scan the sky last night. It was completely, densely overcast so no chance to see any aurora.
The people who know how to calculate such things estimate that aurora should be visible here in Halifax about 10-11 nights a year. Then there's clouds and fog blocking some of those possible views. And then, I'm not spending every night staring up to see if there are Northern Lights. I've seen real, unmistakable aurora exactly once in my life!
I'll be out again tonight... hoping... hoping.
Kimblebee, set up a Northern Lights webcam for us, why don't you! That would be cool.

Are you in Canada? Just curious. My DH and I saw what we thought were Northern Lights in NY State once. We thought they were anyway. My father also told me he saw them in upstate NY while camping. Curious if anyone below Canada has seen them in their state.

yes, as I stated above when I lived in Vermont I have seen them quite often.
My DH and I saw it one night, it was beautiful, there wasn't a lot of different colors with ours but rows of swirling rays or something can't explain it. It was not clouds. Are you in Canada? I was thinking that it was weird to make a big deal of seeing Northern Lights, then I realized I am a lot more Northern than most of you here
We don't see them every day but it certainly isn't on the news or anything like that.
