I've visited, but it's been a few months now. I come to this board to kind of escape reality and talk about a place I love, where I can avoid politics or current news topics. I asked for access so I could see what it was all about, I decided I didn't want to participate. Nothing wrong for those who do, but I chose not to.

Many of the posters on the Controversial Board seem to have forgotten basic rules they taught their kids about posting online. Never post anything you wouldn't want your spouse, children, parents, boss, neighbours or government to read.

Assume everything you post is public and permanent. Even with privacy settings, screenshots, data breaches, policy changes, or simple sharing can put content far beyond its original audience.

I do visit it daily, but rarely comment, and dont' read all of the threads. Glad it's over there though, for an option to discuss, but I don't really talk politics much, not even with my family, or anyone really, maybe a few comments here and there with a few friends.

There’s also the how do I get a popcorn kernel stuck in the back of my throat out thread that brings new users to the DIS every few years too. popcorn::
This thread actually saved me from medical problems.... I remember the thread and felt sorry for the poster...then in April of 2020 the interior of my throat was removed and I knew not to eat popcorn... sunflower seeds... peanut...any seeds that would not designgrate lodge in my throat no longer functioning

I don't make it my business to try and 'educate' people on the internet. I just avoid the ones that aren't. When the tragedy with Laken Riley occurred, and people on the controversial forum actually chose to laugh about it, I decided it was not for me.
Good instincts & ahead of the curve. For a while I thought people were just caught up and it was a phase that would settle down, I don't think that anymore.

Never been, never requested BUT I AM SO GLAD IT EXISTS!!! Having the board has moved most the 🗑️& troll conversations out of the general boards, making this a more pleasant space to be. Hopefully DIS is getting plenty of clicks over there!!

This - 100%. Every since it started, the boards have been so much more pleasant.

I asked for access when I was a member just under six months and didn't know I wouldn't be allowed in. I was never granted access after that and don't want to chase it down as I find the inclusiveness of it distasteful.

You need to be a member for at least 6 months, then make a request.

I would not take it personally. I don’t think it’s about you being allowed to be part of the club, but to prevent people from quickly making a new profile so they can be nasty, mean, insulting and etc without others knowing who they are (yes, people do that)

The waiting time frame is purposeful and a good way to keep out folks who join DIS just to enter the forum for negative reasons. It was a very positive way to structure the new sub-forum.

Doubtful applications are kept and waiting for the 6 month mark. If interested just apply again, nothing discriminatory about it. The rule applies to all.

Or non-DIS people who find out about forum joining just to "stir trouble". I think one point made early on was that the forum would not be "public" on the wide world web so it wouldn't draw in non-Disney folks. It's meant to give folks here at DIS an outlet, not to turn it in to some kind of negative place.
