Noisy Hotel Neighbors--WWYD?

What would I have done, At first ignore it. If it went on too long then I would have called the desk., and if it still continued call the desk back.
I would have mentioned it at check out.

If I went back the next weekend and it happened again and the desk did nothing about it, I would find another hotel that would be glad for my business.

Every hotel can get an unruly or rude patron that is out of their control. What is in their control is how they handle the situation and how they deal with me.

Re the other posters suggesting to call the front desk. I was in a similar situation two years ago, someone else on the hall called. I heard them stop, the gentleman got up, put on some pants (I can only assume) and answered the door. The hotel staff advised them of the complaint, he replied "It wasn't us" closed the door, and "resumed".

I was just thankful they checked out the next morning.

I would definately call the fron desk for the vast majority of people I am certain that it would stop. Many hotels now have a one warning about excessive noise level. We had a loud family next door on a dance trip and we complained (we understood at first but when it was 1 am and the noise had not stopped we called down). The front desk came up and said about the noise - it continued after for another 10 minutes but then it stopped. We actually heard them talking about what jerk would complain lol... :confused3
Unrelated but when I was in teachers college and living in a townhouse I had some loud "romantic neighbours" and that was fun....Couldnt play music to drown it out either out loud since my landlords room was right beside mine. Would use headphones and THANKFULLY they moved after a couple months. :yay:

I kind of like how you handled it. :rotfl2:I wouldn't have had the nerve.

My family was told to quiet down once at a hotel. We really weren't being that loud. We were laughing as we were getting ready to leave at around 8 am. When the front desk called and told us there was a complaint no one believed me. DH thought I was making a joike. :confused3

Back when I was in high school, I had a cheerleading competition in Dallas. Now, this happened to be the same weekend that a certain football team from Texas plays a certain football team from Oklahoma at The Cottonbowl and a well known group from one of those schools known as "The Hellraisers" were staying at the hotel. We quickly learned how they got their name. We ended up having to call and complain about the noise going on above us. They, too, complained about the jerks and fuddy duddies that would turn them in.:confused3

OP Here.

Looking back, the "proper solution" would have been to call the front desk to tell them that there was a "disturbance" next door. I thought for a while about doing that, but for some reason I was sure that the front desk person would ask, "well, like what?" and that would have seriously made me blush.

If you stay there that often, I'm sure the staff knows you, you are a member of their frequent guest program, and they want to make you happy...am I right? Ask for a non-adjoining room. And, why on earth would you have not called down to the front desk to complain about the noise? It's the hotel's job to make sure all the guests have a pleasant experience. Let them do their job.

Yes, I do. It's a Hilton. When I stay there next week I am requesting a room that is not adjoining another room.

How do you get up at 4:30 am to make a 6 am flight?

Good question. My consultant gig is in a tiny town in Northern Minnesota. There are two main roads in town and it is a 6 minute drive from the hotel to the airport. There are two flights in each day from Minneapolis and two flights out. I always show up 40 minutes prior to departure.

I would have just rolled over and gone to sleep.
I sleep in a lot of hotels and have heard people tons of times - a few at WDW.

Hey - good for them.

Just can't let it bother me. Years of dorm living means I can pretty much sleep anywhere.

I tried that for 30 minutes. And the longer I couldn't fall back to sleep, the MADDER I got. And it was not just some background noise off in the distance that was easy to ignore--trust me.

Again, I don't think my response was the most proper, but it felt satisfying dropping off that note this AM!

"Engaged in marital acts" would get the point across quite nicely without having to use words that Mrs. Melanie Wilkes wouldn't have used.:thumbsup2

If I had dd13 with me, I would call down to the desk. If not, I would be yelling: you know he knows you are faking that lol.or say something else to that affect.

I used to live next door to a guy, his bedroom right next to mine, that had a VERY loud girlfriend...he'd shut his Rottweiler in the basement (and the poor thing barked all night) while they pursued their nocturnal activities multiple times during the night. One night, when they woke me for the third time, I pounded on the wall and yelled "Dude, she's faking it!"

Never heard another sound. Even the dog stopped barking.

Yes, it was rude, but it worked. Neither of them would look me in the eye if we met in the parking lot after that.

This reminded me of another story. A couple of years ago, my husband was still in grad school and we were living in an apartment in a college town that was about 50% young professionals and 50% college students. We had come college students next door to us and our bedroom shared a wall with one of their bedrooms. It was not uncommon for them to wake us up when they were engaged in the act. They also enjoyed sitting out on the landing at 3:00am discussing whether or not they were ****ty (can I say that on the board?). Those were always fun conversations because they were often done while the girls were drunk and it was easy to hear every single word.

Well, DH and I had our baby girl that year. We hatched a plan. Since they would wake us up multiple times while in the act, we decided to remind them what that act could result in. Anytime we heard the sounds, if our daughter was crying, we'd be sure to take her into the bedroom so that they could hear the results of those sounds.:lmao:

My sisters and I had a similar experience this past March at Hard Rock Hotel. We were sleeping when this over actor started screaming. The 3 of us jumped out of bed and gave them a better vocal performance. :rolleyes1

I like the note under the door - nice touch.:thumbsup2

Years ago: I was in Wisconsin to see my then boyfriend graduate from basic training in the Navy. It was not well planned as his brother and I decided to go kind of last minute. We ended up having to stay in a motel that looked like it rented by the hour because the hotels were full. My room was dirwctly under the owner,s little apartment : yea they were the noisy ones so I just laughed because I didn't want them to kick me out for saying something smart lol.

This happened to me once but the sound was coming through the vents. Called down to the front desk several times - I wasn't the only one complaining - but since it wasn't easy to determine where the sounds were coming from it went on for a couple of hours. Yep a couple of hours - it was very ANNOYING!! I think the note was a nice touch!!

Frankly, I think you handled it poorly. You should just have called the front desk. And if they asked what kind of noise, all you had to say was they were having really loud sex. Not sure why that would have made you blush.

Blaring podcasts and YouTube videos? Really? I guess it never occurred to you that if you blared something, then other guests may have heard it?

I still don't understand why you didn't call the desk, then turn on your white noise app and fan at that point.

I complain to the front desk, it isn't my job to let them know they are disrupting other guests.

Please do share the name of this tiny town in Northern MN. We're thinking of taking a trip up north next week. Wondering if we need to watch out where we go.;)

I have been a hotel GM for 20 years...

Just call the desk.. We sent someone up, knock on the door and tell them to keep it quiet. We do it ALL the time..

They don't like it, oh well. At best we offer to move them knowing they won't go anywhere at 2am.. At worse we boot them (again at worse)..

99% of the time one knock and quick chat and everyone moves on.. There are exceptions (lol give me an x rated board and I can share those) but mostly it is over..

Bemidji.

Oh how annoying that must have been!

The note though? Eh. The only thing that did was make you feel better venting your frustration.
