No Work and All Play – Disney on the Company’s Dime! (8/1 There and Back Again)

My sis in McLean said they got about that same amount. ARe you near there??

yeah, we stopped and "did" the umbrella too. I'd say we watch that movie an average of about once every quarter, so yeah, it's a must-do for us too.

But I see where it'd be hard to get a "rainy" photo. I'd think a lot of cropping would have to be done, and even then, maybe it wouldn't turn out so well. :confused3

That homage to Gene Kelly is one of those little Disney details that I love! Singin in the Rain is one of my favorite classic films! :thumbsup2

33 inches?! Yuck! We're in metro Detroit and so far this winter we've had maybe 3 inches of snow total! (and I'll be very happy if it stays that way!)

It's definitely a Winter Wonderland out here.
Makes me enjoy these nice sunny pics I get to post...

33 inches??? Yikes. I think we got about 24". And to think....I was originally scheduled to drive to a soccer tournament in NC. Thank goodness they called it off on Thursday. :cool1:

I love your umbrella picture. That is so cute that your daughter wanted to watch Gene Kelley over and over. I have yet to take an umbrella picture, but I have seen so many here that its on my "must do" list for next trip!

They already closed school for the kids for both Monday and Tuesday.
It's definitely white around here.
As for the umbrella pic - it's fun.
Definitely try to swing by if you get a chance!

Small world - I actually work in McLean so it's not too far.
And I tried again to get the "rainy" shot with the kids in November but it didn't work then either...

me!!! We have 30 inches here. I have to be at work at 6 am tomorrow (and my husband at 5 am) and we haven't been plowed yet!

Ouch. We spent all weekend shovelling out.
The kids just went and played in it and it was taller than them!
But since I was in the Disney spirit, I planted our flag out front.
I'll post a pic in a sec so you can see what I'm talking about...

Even with 33 inches of snow on the ground, we got our Disney fix in!
First we planted our flag...

Then the kids stormed the grounds!

Okay, back to the trip report...

On one of the other corners of that intersection in the back of DHS is a brick building with Roz standing out front
IOUG2009276.jpg

She’s sort of inviting you in but there’s not much other signage here.
As you enter, you start to realize where you are going.
A big sign points you to Monstropolis
IOUG2009274a.jpg

And then there is a sign with classic Monster’s Inc puns.
Inhuman Relations.
Research and Devolvment.
Gotta love the details…
IOUG2009273.jpg

Around the corner and crowded around Boo’s door are Mike and Sully.
I wondered several times if Mike was actually animatronic, a statue, or a real character.
But Sully is HUGE and as soon as I walked over, he literally just grabbed me.
Talk about cuddling with a fuzzy blanket…
Photopass2009255.jpg

Photopass2009260.jpg

This was a much nicer setup than the one they had previously over by the ABC Commissary.
It’s still without much fanfare and you have to know where to look but it’s a neat little area to check out.
On my way out, I had to take a pic with Roz…

Next up – a trip to Radiator Springs…

Great pictures of u with Handy Manny , I'm sure DS just loved them :)

We have also tryed the Umbrella out on our 1st trip in 06 but if my memory serves me right it did not have the rain option then :confused3 We will def have to check it out again on our upcoming trip in September and see just how that rain works :)

The Monsters Inc. area is very detailed inside but a hidden gem on the outside . We did this meet & greet on our last trip but Sully was on break so it was just Mike & the kids . The kiddies gave him a hug and were a little disappointed when he couldn't give one back w/ his extra long arms . lol

The snow pictures were great ! We are from MD but are living in Coastal North Carolina so we hardly ever see snow & for this years score we've had 0 snow. They got 22 inches back home in Maryland this weekend & are expecting more 2moro , boy do I miss snow storms !

Can't wait to read more of report , you were able to get so much done this day !

Hi. After 1.5 weeks I have finally finished reading your other 2 trip reports and have caught up to you on this one. You have great pictures adn I really appreciate the way you detail everything. Its great to get some information on thing other people may take for granted. We leave in 4 days and are hoping for nice weather. Cant wait to read more when I get back and maybe even right one of my own.

Apparently we are expecting another 12 inches tonite.
Looks like 33 was just the beginning.
At least if I'm snowed in, I can work more on the trip report!! :)

As for my day at the Studios (keep in mind I started at Animal Kingdom), there's still plenty to do.
It was so nice to go at my pace and see everything I wanted without worrying about all the needs of little ones.
I think the most fun was walking at my pace and not worrying about travelling back and forth across the park to see something I wanted to see.

Welcome aboard Jay!
That's alot of reading in 1.5 weeks!!
But I'm glad you had fun - I have alot of fun writing these reports as I get to relive my time in Disney!
As for the details, I learned alot researching on the DIS before I really got addicted and this is my way of giving back.
Hoping you can get some use out of some of the details on your upcoming trip!
Speaking of which, have a blast and we definitely want to hear all about it when you get back.
Be sure to post here when you get back!
And take lots of pics for your TR - just tell your family it's for your friends on the DIS!!
They'll think you are crazy at first but then will just accept it.
Hey - my kids even remind me to take pics of the food now for the boards...
:rotfl:

We tried too to find these guys, but really never could. It was like they were making it hard on purpose. :confused3 It was hot, and we gave up after too long in hunting.

But the interaction looks great, and I do SO love the visual puns. "Inhuman relations". :lmao:

Maryland is also expecting another 12 inches or more starting today . When I spoke to my family it had already started around 11:00 a.m. That is very true these snow storms should give you lots of extra time to work on your report !

You know I totally forgot you started your day out at Animal Kingdom , Wow you can really cover some ground with no kiddies in tow !

Started my Pre-trip report today if you'd like to join me over there here is the link http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2393055

I'm snowed in here in Maryland! We got about 30" over the weekend, and we're getting dumped on as we speak right now

Stay warm - we're getting hit here in Northern VA as well!
Maybe another trip report segment will pass the time...

After a quick trip to Monstropolis, I headed back towards the Streets of America.
About halfway down the street (right at the exit to Muppetvision 3-D), you may hear some engines revving.
Yep – you’ve just entered Radiator Springs.
IOUG2009279.jpg

As you get closer, you can hear the Radiator Springs radio station blaring familiar songs like “Real Gone” and “Life is a Highway.” :music:
The highlight of this area is visiting good ol’ Luigi’s Casa Della Tires so I drove on over.
:drive:
And I was in luck!
It just so happened that two old friends were being fitted for new whitewall tires!
That revving I heard was none other than Piston Cup Rookie Sensation Lightning McQueen and his best friend Tow Mater!
IOUG2009277.jpg

Apparently they were here for Luigi’s big sale!
IOUG2009278.jpg

It’s a small little corner of the park but it’s packed with great detail.
And with great detail comes great Photopass photographers!
Since Cars (referred to as the “Lightning DVD” in my house) is my 2-yr old’s favorite movie, these pictures were for him:
Photopass2009265.jpg

Photopass2009271.jpg

After a short visit with my four-wheeled friends to get my new tires, it was time to high tail outta here! :car:
I still had some time before dinner and I wanted to go exploring this section of the park for hidden gems and often missed details.
Chime in if you have some thoughts on what I’ll find!

Nice updates with some of the Pixar gang! I love Sully! He is just so big and cuddly!

Your kids look so cute standing on that mountain of snow!

I bet they were so jealous when they saw your picture with the cars characters. Poor kids!

Nah, they were excited.
After all that was the deal with the conference trip - I had to take pics of everything to show them.
In fact, my little guy (DS2) just saw me post it and sat in my lap:
"Daddy and Lightning! More Daddy and Lightning!"
Unfortunately, I only had a couple of pics.
And I made it up to him on our next trip - but you'll read that story later...

Nice detailed pictures of the cars area :goodvibes DS2 was so scared of this area last year , I think it was a little two loud for his liking . Still a very cool area though :thumbsup2 Can't wait to see the hidden gems u find !
