No more unlimited refills on resort mugs?

Correct. Using an old mug is (almost) the same as stealing a new mug though ;). The only difference being that Disney does not lose their cost of the mug (that is the wholesale $0.34 or whatever they pay per mug). They still lose out on the potential revenue from you buying the mug since you no longer need to buy it to acquire the "perk".

It's closer to sneaking into a movie that isn't sold out. The movie theater isn't losing an actual sale by you taking up an otherwise empty seat, but they are losing that $429 (or whatever it is per ticket for a movie now) by you not paying for yours. (Let's not get into the fact it's actually the movie company and not the theater that's actually losing out on most of that money due to how they are setup and all that jazz, for simplicity's sake :p)

(Note: The use of "you" in here is not specific, it's general)

(Note 2: I've had to disclaim a lot of my posts lately... is it something up with me, or the general atmosphere of these threads? Hmm)

Haha i'm just defending the "old Mug" side. I bought a new mug this year.

You read your previous post, you said you used a mug from another resort, so as for being wrong you are, Disney says so, thats the owner of the dispensers, so thats good enough for me.

When I referenced "I", I actually meant my brother. He used the 2007 version. I used the version I bought at the WL from this year.

They use this "my little brother did it" excuse in gaming communities all the time. Doesn't fly there either ;).

/pokes the bear with the stick

All in all, I don't personally care either way. If you (again, generally speaking here) want to cheat the system, at least call it like it is. If I were doing the same and they caught on and put an end to it, it'd be like "Oh well, it was good while it lasted". But, that's just me :p

(Note: Here we go again with the notes :p. The first bit was joking, of course. I'm sure most people picked that up due to my recent posting habits have been a bit... off... the rocker).

Great breakdown and analogy. :thumbsup2

I've read a lot of the posts but not all. Does anyone have an answer to this? We always make a ressie for 1 night at our resort of choice and another ressie for the rest of our trip. The reason? We live in an area we cannot guarentee our flight will leave on time due to snowstorms in winter. We do dining plan for night 1 for the one TS meal we do. Will we be able to use the mug the entire time we are at the resort or only the firt night? If it is only the first night, will we be able to use them all day of checkout, or will the be inactive once we recheck into the new ressie?

I think you already know. Your dining plan ends at midnight of the day you check out of the first hotel. That means your mug also expires at midnight of that day. And if you read the mug, it is only good at the resort you bought it at. That's the rules. It's written right on the mug.

This reminds me a lot of a former President, debating the meaning of the word "is".

Actually that situation was not a debating of what the word "is" means, it was asking for a clarification of what the word meant in terms of the way the question was being asked in the deposition.

When doing a split stay you only need to purchase the mug at your 1st resort and you can use it and the 2nd resort you stay at. Other posters on here have confirmed that and it's also mentioned on the Offical Mug FAQ thread on the Resort board.

If you want after one night to spend another $ 13.99 for new mugs go ahead, but you really are wasting your money. I think virtually everone agrees that for a split stay you do not need to purchase new mugs. While certain members of the mug police might accuse you of stealing, cheating, and every other crime known to humanity I wouldn't let it concern you.

The most simple answer is that no one knows right now. Although, I am sure that if this system does get implemented resort (erm... Disney World resort, not just resort resort) wide that they will have to formally adopt a position on the matter as it would have to be implemented into the business rules of the controlling software.

I'd be adopting a "wait and see" approach to this right now.

(TBH, I'm on the sides of the split-stay people for this one and hope it works out for you guys).

even though common sense tells you that, of course
you can use the mug for your entire WDW vacation, for those who need further validation, check out the sticky in the OFFICIAL Disboards Refillable mug thread (the one that states that these issues mentioned in the sticky are NOT up for debate on the disboards.)
It mentions split stays specifically, and says that Disney stresses the DURATION of the trip, rather than a specific resort.
we OFTEN do split stays (giving Disney more of our money by staying at pricier resorts on the later legs of our singleWDW vacation than had we stayed at one cheaper resort the entire vacation) and we purchase a mug for each of us for our Disney vacation. and I sleep very well at night knowing I have done nothing wrong.

have fun on your trip!!!!

Mug Police, That's funny :rotfl2: :woohoo: :lmao: :yay: :cheer2:

I can tell you that I get sick and tired of people getting free drinks when using mugs from ten years ago. And, to the people that say Disney is being petty for introducing this, I find that statement a little rediculous. If every single person coming to disneyworld was to all of a sudden start getting free drinks, that would definately add up. So, I find it very selfish that some people find it fine to steal soda, while the rest of us have to pay for it. I feel that this is a very good idea. Makes it fair all around!

You might be sick and tired, but thousands of people bought mugs ten years ago when they were told that they were good for life (at the resort where they were purchased). This has been posted so many times by so many different people that it isn't funny any more. The idea is to go to WDW and have a good time, and not getting sick and tired about what other people choose to do or not do with their mugs.

I just want to point out, that while this is the case as it stands right now. This policy could change if the new system is implemented, since it's technically, by word, not the true policy (It's different than the FP issue, since the mugs specifically say at this resort).

So, while I'm hopeful that this becomes official policy, I'm also hedging bets ;).

The old "refills for life" mugs have me concerned too (not because people are using them!). Hopefully that, eventually, if the system goes into place, these people are taken care of as well. If they can make stickers for paper cups, it stands to reason they could be accommodated in much the same way.

If Disney chooses to end the "refills for life" it is their prerogative to do so. Disney can determine the "life" of that program and when it's over, it's over.

I am conflicted as to what I think should happen with those old mugs. On one hand I know Disney is all about customer service and the squeaky mug will get the pop, if you will. On the other hand, I would be okay with them saying, "Well, you've had the opportunity for free refills for 10 years or so, and now it's over."

Well I don't see WDW ever telling those guests who bought mugs when they were good for life that they can't ever bring them back. Those mugs were bought with the understanding that they can be brought back for future stays at the resort they bought them at. The amount of money those guests spend on their resorts, in the parks and etc would far exceed the "loss of profit" WDW would make if they don't purchase the mugs today.

The problem is that all those people have forgotten the last part, you know, about "the resort where they were purchased", and just use them wherever they want. That was NOT what they bought and anyone that says it is clearly just doesn't want to admit it.

And if our society has gotten to the point where stealing is not our concern, no matter how petty it may seem, then there isn't much hope for ever being able to trust anyone. What's wrong is wrong no matter how many ways we work at justifying it.

Hmmmm, I bought those mugs a couple of times years ago when they first started doing the refillable thing and they never told me that they were refillable for life at the same resort. They did tell me that they were refillable for the length of our stay. I never have taken our mugs back to fill on another trip. I guess we missed out.
