No more unlimited refills on resort mugs?

I just want to point out, that while this is the case as it stands right now. This policy could change if the new system is implemented, since it's technically, by word, not the true policy (It's different than the FP issue, since the mugs specifically say at this resort).

So, while I'm hopeful that this becomes official policy, I'm also hedging bets ;).

The old "refills for life" mugs have me concerned too (not because people are using them!). Hopefully that, eventually, if the system goes into place, these people are taken care of as well. If they can make stickers for paper cups, it stands to reason they could be accommodated in much the same way.

I understand that. I am thinking (and hoping) that the chips will be good at any resort (after all, there are "sister"resorts) and will be good for a period of, say 2 or 3 weeks.

if not, I will simply retain the receipt from my initial mug purchase, and upon arrival at the 2nd resort of my stay, show this as well as my reservation confirmation, proving that I am STILL on the same vacation. I'm sure a manager, if need be, will have NO problem reissuing mugs with current chips or reactivation the chips.

OMG, reading over these posts are making me laugh. Its only mugs. I went in 2009 and bought 4 mugs, went back in 2011 and did not bring those but bought 2 new ones. I like having the new designs and do not mind paying for new ones each trip I go on. Relax, its only mugs!!!

Hmmmm, I bought those mugs a couple of times years ago when they first started doing the refillable thing and they never told me that they were refillable for life at the same resort. They did tell me that they were refillable for the length of our stay. I never have taken our mugs back to fill on another trip. I guess we missed out.

Actually I am starting to believe that the "lifetime" thing is Urban Legend. There have been a few that have come on and said that they were told that, but it was sketchy, by whom, and not in large enough quantities to really be believable. Personally I think that they bought the cups, somebody said that they were good for life (not necessarily a CM) and they liked the idea and ran with it. Consequently that information got passed around in the distorted fashion that rumors do go, and they have the problem that currently exists. It is possible that it was a single resort promotion to try and encourage guests to return to that particular resort, but even that seem a little out of whack.

Whatever the case, it wasn't meant to be Disney Resorts all encompassing. If it did happen it would have been for one specific resort and none of the others would have been part of it.

They use this "my little brother did it" excuse in gaming communities all the time. Doesn't fly there either ;).

/pokes the bear with the stick

All in all, I don't personally care either way. If you (again, generally speaking here) want to cheat the system, at least call it like it is. If I were doing the same and they caught on and put an end to it, it'd be like "Oh well, it was good while it lasted". But, that's just me :p

(Note: Here we go again with the notes :p. The first bit was joking, of course. I'm sure most people picked that up due to my recent posting habits have been a bit... off... the rocker).

That's the way I look at it, we were getting away with it for many years. However though, back in whatever year(2004?) my mom asks a cast member "Is this cup good forever?" And the cast member said "This cup is good for free refills forever." I know they changed there policy since but theres another reason for defending the old mugs.

One other point it's not my "little brother", it's my older brother who is now 23, so i'm not planning the "little/big brother" card.

I can tell you that I get sick and tired of people getting free drinks when using mugs from ten years ago. And, to the people that say Disney is being petty for introducing this, I find that statement a little rediculous. If every single person coming to disneyworld was to all of a sudden start getting free drinks, that would definately add up. So, I find it very selfish that some people find it fine to steal soda, while the rest of us have to pay for it. I feel that this is a very good idea. Makes it fair all around!

It's not stealing soda when a cast member tells you in the past that the mug you purchased is good forever. It's Disney's fault for changing their policies and allowing their employees, in the past, to tell guests that there mugs were good forever.

Yeah that's it, it's a big conspiracy!

Thanks for your response to this. After reading so much of this thread and many others about the refillable mugs, I really did think I must have missed something a long the way. Even though, to be honest, I would not have taken the mugs back and forth anyway. I stopped purchasing them because every time I want a drink at my resort, I always have to go to our room and pick up the mugs first, then go back and get my drink. I never have them with me.

The "good for this resort, forever" didn't last long (relatively). I know it was present in 1995/1996-ish, because I saw it (and was sold one) first hand. And it's never left my house, since "coming home". :)

But by late 1999 (start of the Millenium Festival..when all the mugs got branded 2000), when we returned to WDW for our honeymoon, they had changed it to "for the length of your stay at this resort".

Believe what you want...but I saw it first hand in the mid 90's. That's the way the mugs were sold, that's the signage that was around the mugs, and that's what the CM's were telling people.

You can do a quick google search and find mounds of threads full of "eyewitness accounts" of the same.

If you choose to think it's a form of mass hysteria......fine by me.

It's really not important what a person told you in the past...what is important is what the policy is today. Disney is a private company and they can make whatever rules that they wish. You do have a choice, either boycott them for not honoring a previous bad policy or go along with it. You don't have the choice to make your own rules.

Yeah that's it, it's a big conspiracy!

Do you even read my posts or just decide you don't like the results as soon as you see my name. Nothing I said even vaguely resembles a conspiracy.

If you can tell me that everyone that presently brings old mugs and reuses them were "sold" the original free for life mugs, I'll take your word that they existed, and that those are the actual original mugs sold...then I stand corrected. Otherwise, I stand by Urban Legend to get it to the place it's at today.
