No more unlimited refills on resort mugs?

This just in, it is rumored that club coke will now only allow guests to get drinks only one time during the day.The machines will have retinal idenification.:rotfl2:

Those little cups of Beverly make a lot of people happy.

Most of whom are watching someone else drinking them.

Waiting for SRM1981 to chime in that Club Cool should start charging for cups of Beverly, due to accounting costs for those cups. How about a cup with a chip, for a fee, to access all the Club Cool selections? Wow! Why didn't Disney think of that before?

since i watched a mom 'rinse off' a dirty bottomed little one at epcot in the water fountain, i no longer use them..........

Exactly! That's not the only thing I have seen people rinse off in the water fountain. Gross!!!

Using your logic WDW should no longer provide toilet paper in any of their hotel rooms. Just think, WDW has over 20,000 rooms, at 25c per roll per day, that's a savings to Disney of$ 5,000 a day, $ 35,000 a week, or more than $ 18 million dollars a year.
Yea, that's right give them the idea! We'll go into our rooms and find a old phone book sitting on the tank with a "we recycle everything, save the planet" sign.... :lmao:

Upon intensive cross analyzing of the concepts devised by a 14th century logician and Franciscan friar, William of Occam and data as stated in this "master tretis" of Disney's evil mug plan to take over the world; I have devised a simple yet ingenious plan to combat the issue... I won't buy a mug anymore. :thumbsup2 ::yes::

So what is the running bet on this thread??? Will it get into the 30 pages range before it is closed? I say it won't :)

:thumbsup2 Exactly...everyone is looking at it like they are the only ones doing this. I understand it is hard to comprehend how the numbers fall when you multiply it by the vast numbers of people that attend the parks and resorts. I would bet that the $219,000. is a pretty conservative number.

Now if groups of people were absconding with that much of your money a year don't you think you might be concerned. And that isn't even factoring the sale of new cups that aren't being sold because people are bringing and using the old ones free of charge.

Business do sometimes spend money to make money. Heck, even my home state figured this one out. Our last governor was all set to cut the award winning Pure Michigan ads, as they cost a pretty penny to make. Our current governer, who is a business man, figured out that those ads actually bring in more money than they cost. So it is smart to spend the smaller amount, in order to bring in a larger amount.

So if as a company Disney is spending $219,000 on cups of free ice water, I bet there is a up-side to that expenditure. Maybe spending that on cups equals $699,000 in additional vacations planned, or merchandise bought in the parks. Who knows? But I bet if those cups were thought to be costing Disney more than they brought back in, we wouldn't get free ice water anymore. Sometimes a small thing that cost pennies can bring many dollars back in return.

pilferk, i have no idea why you are addressing my post.......:confused3
you posted the same thing twice already today towards me.

i have been talking about coffee.

i don't even drink coke.

If you revisit this branch of the conversation, you'll see you responded to a post (by me) that address a concern of snoopy two about getting flat coke.

So, when you responded to my suggestion as to how to solve his problem....you weren't talking about coffee...because snoopy two wasn't talking about coffee....and so, neither was I.

Coffee is irrelevant. Thus far, there is no RFID functionality on those machines.

It's called "the cost of doing business". Some businesses expect to lose minute amounts of money on things like free cups of water. It's an expense they account for and are okay with losing that money.

But then again, you're probably one of those people who complain about anything and everything, don't you? Those people who butt in line really ticked you off, didn't they? Tone down the bitterness, why don't you?

And, quite frankly, if you're in the resort food court or in the theme park...Disney probably already has SOME of your money (and is likely to get more). Disney is also not in the business of selling tap water (because there's no inherent or perceived value in the product)....and their costs to provide it are so low that they're likely not worth consideration....especially in relation to the good will (happy customers open their wallets more freely) it generates.

Splash Mountain, Pirates, heck bring a cup on It's a Small World. Disney provides plenty of convenient access to water. :lmao:

LOL!

I think the key word in the law is usually POTABLE.

I'm not sure the water in Splash, IASW, or Pirates (I mean...that one pirates disgusting feet hang RIGHT over the water!!) would be considered potable.

:)

When at the parks or resorts I ask for a cup for water because I am not a pop drinker, I do buy a mug for tea. As far as the cost of the cups, paper plates, plastic utensils, napkins etc etc, it is all the cost of doing business and Disney writes this all off. I think giving a cup of cold water for a few pennies a glass is good business sense, especially in the hot weather. Free cups of water, less people passing out from heat.

I cannot get over how many times that phrase comes up. It didn't say I couldn't so must be I can. There is no sign that says when your crossing the street not to step in front of a speeding truck either...do you do that?

You know perfectly well what I meant by dishonest. Now I don't care if you are dishonest...I don't have to live with your indiscretions, you do. I don't know what book you read but the ones that I did said that taking things that do not belong to you is stealing. It doesn't matter if you are stealing from Donald Trump or a vagrant. Stealing is stealing! Now I'm not saying it's big time stealing, in fact it is pretty petty, but I admire honest people and do not trust dishonest ones. I know, I know, you don't give a rats butt about what I admire and that is fine and understood.

You can do what you want...and you can also see by the actions that Disney is attempting to implement that they are concerned about you taking liberties with their property otherwise they wouldn't be spending that kind of money to prevent it. Enjoy it while you can.

First off, your writing is horrible and hard to read. 2nd, I said this multiple times, I bought a new cup this year! I just bring up the point of your on vacation is Disney, if your top problem is people using old mugs, that's pretty sad. Who cares if someone uses an older version mug, as long as it's at least from Disney. I can't stand seeing people filling up water coolers and huge jugs, now that's extremely annoying. And I don't look at it as stealing, more or so people trying to save a couple bucks and using an older mug.

then again if that is their top problem that is good for the parks though right? HEHEHE

Oh well people filling big jugs up and all, ruined it for the rest of us honest people. That's all. The contents were meant for the mug and the mug only, but people abuse things. Then everyone gets punished reminds me back in grade school. LOL

:confused3 goofyernmost's writing is as clear and lucid as yours. It's regrettable that you close to attack both the poster and the post :sad2:

The intent was never for people to fill containers of the size of their choice. Guests could/can refill the refillable mugs or disposable cups for a previously indeterminate length of time - the assumptions being that the cups would be trashed after a short period of time and the mugs on a single trip to Walt Disney World. By the way, i was a bit taken aback that someone was told in 2005 that the mugs were good 'forever'. Because, apparently, too many guests took advantage of the dispenser access and lack of control, WDW has chosen to electronically control what containers can be filled and how frequently.

First off, think you forgot your glasses, its the same as your's. 2nd If it's not stealing why can't they take a coke out of the fridge, after all it's only trying to save a couple of bucks?.

I don't have a problem with this, really, though I'm a THIEF, THEIF, I SAY! who reuses mugs that are the same ones as are being sold currently. When a new mug comes out, I buy one of those. We are FL residents and AP holders who go down quite regularly and always stay on Disney property, often just for a quick weekend trip. I would not buy a new mug each time. What I would be happy to do is buy a special year-long mug or something that costs extra but covers longer than our typically short length of stay. For frequent guests, that would be a nice convenience. For those guests that only come once a year, the length of stay mug seems fine by me. Its still a comparatively good value if you are there for a week or so. People can always bring their own drinks from home, which we've done in the past (even taken our own coffee maker!).

Hey I know what to do about the paper cups!!

If you use a free paper cup, when you buy your meal at disney, just make sure you don't use any (and definetly not any extra) napkins. Just wipe that barbeque off with your hands. It doesn't matter if it gets on anything in the queue lines, at least since you had your drink, you won't be dripping as much sweat there.

I remember one trip to Disney in maybe 2008? I was staying at the Polynesian and went down to All Star Sports Resort to eat lunch (the chicken penne alfredo is awesome!). As I went to fill up my mug there was a lady standing at the refill station with this huge cooler (one you would bring to a softball game etc.), and it was so big she couldn't hold it under the fountain, she used the lid and kept filling the lid and dumping the soda into the cooler and so for about 5 minutes until the cooler was filled. I was thinkin "are you kidding me!?". Now that just gets me mad, and there were CM's just watching her do it.:rolleyes1

Sea World sells large soda cups, $8.99 I think. You can bring it back year after year, as long as you own the cup. Refills are $.99 each (even less for annual pass holders). We go frequently, and have never heard a complaint.

Disney should do something like this...they could even add a certain number of free refills to the dining plan.

Simple, easy, and not that expensive.

But not as simple and easy as what we have now.

The only shocking part of this story is that you LEFT the Polynesian to have lunch at the All Stars. That's the same as breaking INTO prison for their excellent food service. ;)
